this whole "gay is cool" (queer as folk, queer eye, will and grace) is so incredibly boring. yawn.

yeah, if you're incapable of looking beyond what 'men' watch and what 'women' watch

I really enjoyed it. It's light, informative and very funny. As a concept it's no different from the other 'make-over' shows but the format is quite refreshing.

Not sure whether I totally agree with defining these undeniably skilled men solely by their sexuality but I guess that's the hook of the show. I just think it does them a disservice insofar as several of them are highly respected & award-winning in their fields yet it seems more important (to the show) that they are gay.

Anyway I'll definitely be watching this again

I agree Richie :) Light and entertaining. It's massive in the states, which is why Living are pushing it so much.

The guy last night was so easy going and comfortable with the guys but (after seeing quite a few episodes already in USA) not all the straight guys are that 'easy' :)

Funny how all you blokes are knocking it :p

Well I'm a guy and straight and thought it was very good.

Taken the best bits from 'What not to Wear', Changing Rooms, Can't cook, Won't cook and Faking It.

I agree that the first one wasn't great as the guy was obviously quite comfortable with his sexuality and theirs. I can imagine a more 'macho/homophobic' guy will make it a lot more interesting.

You Kyliephobe!

:D

So when is the Goddess Minogue on then? (I'm guessing we won't get those episodes for ages).
What'll she do, help Thom by painting the skirting board or help Carson by 'jushing' trouser bottoms or something? :p

Watched that last night and it was very good.

My GF started watching this a few weeks back but I was very doubtful about giving it a go. Now I watch it every week. It is really entertaining. Shame my GF now wants me to do everyhting they get the blokes to do.

Oh god it is very very very bad. I've tried to watch it a couple of times but given up after 10 mins or so.

Apparently Living actually made some shows with 5 differnt guys but they were scrapped becaue they weren;t good enough to broadcast. How bad must those have been :gag:

This make-over show melarkee is soo old. Also, Gays acting in a stereotypical fashion must be irratating to most gays.

I don't have a problem with the whole thing, there's room for everyone, and if there is a slight boom in gay programming (3 or 4 shows is hardly a gay overthrow) then I guess there was a market for it, and maybe gay programming will leave the campness ghetto behind, or at least not be dominated by it. I think Will and Grace is a dreadful show (especially that middle-aged squeaky woman) but I get around that by not watching it. Six Feet Under on the other hand has a lot of pretty graphic gay sexuality in it but it's a great show, and isn't overrun by campness.
That South Park 'metrosexual' episode was great though :)

ps is there really a show called Are You Gay Enough? sure you're not thinking of How Gay Are You?

Sad fact but it's what happens once an oppressed group starts to break out. Look at how black culture is sometimes idolized.

god what rubbish, so SOME tv shows gay life being cool and hip. Comprased to the millions of shows that show how great the hetro world is. or the white world. Should we ban things like "the cosby show" or "a different world" just because they show depictions of black familys/universitys as opposed to white ones.

Queer eye is pretty similar to trinny and susannah, or retail therapy on uk sytle - just with men telling men what to wear rather than women telling women. If you do not like, do not watch, its good that there are shows for everyone out there.

Whilst I'm no great fan of the screaming queen school of tv gayness, you can't whinge now that a few gay shows pop up: how many years of ignorance and illegality have to be atoned for? How many years of no representation; no positive role models yadda yadda yadda.

I love Charlie Brooker's article on the "queer TV" explosion, especially his thoughts on the UK version of Queer Eye...

I don't really like (or agree) with that article, but whatever. i really like queer eye for the straight guy, and thought that straight plan for the gay man was really dumb.

I quite agree.Surely it's time for some awesomely classy lesbians doing something on tv isn't it.Anything would suffice,as long as there were lots of gratuitous lingering dodgy camera angles.

PS.I'm really bored of women preaching about how great gays are.
