Best version of Ghost in the Shell?

I've just got back from Whsmith and bought Ghost in the Shell. Love the film, but, THAT DAMN ONE SECOND AUDIO DELAY. Really chaps my 'you know what's'

I would go for the R1 version, but, I'm a PAL person.

So which region really has the best version for picture quality. Can you tell the difference between R1 & R2 resolution? Does R4 have the audio delay? Does R2 French have the audio delay? I'm not concerned about extras, just the best picture quality
