hi! I am all interested in the series after various forum members expressed their LiEking in these. So the hunts started and I am confused....

obvisously I am looking to get the series for the best Value/quality ratio.

There is a boxset 1&2 in France for about £20 that looks alright.

There is a boxset 1,2&3 zone one that I found here (http://www.fnac.com/Shelf/article.asp?PRID=1218842&SubjectId=0&SID=23099A0A%2DBB17%2D4A9B%2D5CFA%2D83BA9D6A7943&UID=93585f23%2D8ac6%2Dd31f%2Dd617%2D9ec7bce70d0f&AID=&Origin=KELKOO&Pe=1&No=4&Mu=-3&Fr=0&Mn=24&Ra=-3&To=0) for about £60 although it probably is cheaper in the US (where I go soon).

Can you help? any ideas how to get the best deal?

thanks in advance

get the R2 (HKL)versions of OUATIC 1 & 2 as these are the best versions you can get.
No 3 is due out early 2002 from HKL (R2) wait for this. They do the best HK transfers etc you can find.
Apparantly No's 4 and 5 are unrelated to the first three and do not have Jet Li in them and are meant to be rubbish. For completists only I feel.
No 6 is called Once Upon A Time In China & America.
There is an adequate R2 of this, I don't believe there is a better version available.

Hope this helps :)

I'm not sure if I'd be as generous as you in describing the MIA Once Upon a Time in China and America as "adequate", because although it appears to be very generous - offering two separate transfers, for starters - in practice neither of them are especially satisfactory.

One of them is anamorphic 5.1... but cropped to 16:9 and in dubbed English.

The other is letterboxed Cantonese with subtitles... but with stereo sound and an awful VCD-quality picture.

And the film's not much cop either!
