View Full Version : R2 Bowling for Columbine SE (2 disc set) problem?

Whilst watching this I noticed that at the end of each chapter there is a slight pause, not dissimilar to a layer change. Whilst not a major problem it is rather distracting.

Has anybody else noticed this on their copy?

If it helps, I'm using a Sony dvd player but will try it on the Xbox later for a comparisson.

TIA

Can anybody who owns the R2 SE confirm if this is how the disc was authored or is mine a faulty one??

I haven't got the DVD but as no-one else has replied you could try taking the DVD back to the shop (assuming you bought it from a shop) and try explaining the problem and ask them for another copy to see if thats ok.

I know this reply is a bit late but I've just watched this having bought it in the HMV sale and also noticed the pauses at the beginning of each chapter. This is on my Pioneer DV444. Not the worst thing ever but slightly distracting, especially if its during music. Is there a faulty batch or it just the players?

I have the special edition of Bowling For Columbine region 2 and I can confirm that there is a slight layer change style pause at the beginning of each chapter and it is very annoying.

I never noticed this, very odd. I've just put it on and my R2 2 disc is not affected by this. I have a pioneer 656.

Same here - I watched it on my Toshiba SD100e, which isn't the best player for seamless layer changes/menu selections etc. at the best of times, and was worried my player was on its last legs or something! :) Glad to see it's not my player, but it was definitely very distracting and annoying. Perhaps there's a bad batch of them or something, if not everyone is having the problem? I bought mine from Play.com in November.

Now that i have bought this i have realised that there is a slight pause before the start of a chapter.

Its nothing too major and didn't affect my viewing of it in the slightest.

Im using a Sony NS700V.

It pauses on mine, doesn't ruin the film, but it's noticeable and annoying.

Is it just me or has the special edition disapeared from shops?

I bought it online but when i have been browsing the shops over the sales and the last month i haven't seen it anywhere.

Is it the same anywhere else or is it just me?

If i was being cynical i would suggest that they want to get rid of the bare bones disc in the sales....

I'm fairly sure the 2 disc version was an HMV exclusive like brotherhood of the wolf, but I'm willing to be proved wrong...

Moore can be guilty of spinning things in a way that supports his own views, but then so does that website that you link to.

It gets a bit pedantic about whether the Lockheed plant near Columbine actually manufactured nuclear missiles around about the same time as the massacre after a pretty throwaway remark on 'Bowling For Columbine', the point behind the comment was pretty clear (whether or not you agree with him is up to you).

I don't agree with Moore on every point but thats the nature of being an opinionated journalist I suppose.

Me too. I took my old copy back because i paid £19 and the fault was annoying, but for £9.99 I'm not that bothered.
