My computer sucks at the moment, so I'll have to wait.
I do love you though Lorne
anybody picked this up in the uk yet?
Seen the pilot, it sucks soooooo much.:blah:
Eliza is ok in it but I thought it was an badly scripted overdone idea.

this show will be cancelled within a month on us telivision because it is going up against friends and survivor which are huge tv shows for ratings.

and because it sucks soooooooo much (as cluderi said earlier). They're going to need to do some serious work on this to make it remotely watchable, if the pilot's anything to go by.

I hadn't realised that it was up against Friends, it wont stand a chance and certainly Friends will be taking the slot on my PVR over this.

It is a pretty poor storyline although its worth it just to see eliza bouncing down the street in that top :D
Didn't find a tru calling thread so I'll go here.
Spoiler for last weeks ep
I've been hoping since day 1 for a multi-day episode rather than just the 2 day formula they've been folowing. Thank god they finally did it. Good episode too and I can't wait for the Jason Priestly eps, they'll give the series more depth I think

I'd ignored this show cos the pilot wasn't spectacular and everyone said it was going to be cancelled so quickly, but it looks like it's still going after at least 10 episodes.
So, is it any good.

Fox obviously asked the producers to make the show accessible to dumbasses. If you can put up with the infuriating "here's what just happened 5 seconds ago!" flashback sequences that occur every time something happens that relates to something earlier in the story, and don't mind the "earlier tonight on Tru Calling" recap of the episode at the half-way point, then it's a reasonably enjoyable show.
The recap bit is annoying, but I am enjoying it, i've been watching it from the pilot.

I watched the pilot a while back Dushku was good, but the pilot
itself was a bit "nyehh", seen it all before.
Didn't bother with the rest, might catch it if it gets picked up for broadcast in the UK. ( No news on that front so far, maybe Sky used up their budget buying 24 :)

I gave up on it pretty quickly, I thought it wasted the decent premise and turned into yet another "cop" show.
The supporting actors I found annoying and, as TheFly said, it's incredibly dumbed down. Pointless recaps and Tru practically turning to camera and telling us how she's solved the mystery. :brickwall

I don't remember that. While the reaction was lukewarm it wasn't something that was expected to be cancelled quickly
The recaps were annoying but helpful if you tune in late. They weren't on the last episode and maybe the one before that.

Well, in this very thread, Rypro525 suggested it wouldn't last long vs Survivor and Friends and Kryten concurred. I've also read that assessment elsewhere on the web. Of course, by 'not last long' they could just have meant they'd change when it's on, and I got the wrong end of the stick. Wouldn't be the first time!

Just seen this advertised on Sky starting next month
Personally, I didnt give this show much hope. Early episodes were very predictable & did little with the concept ... Buuuuut after half-a-dozen shows or so, it got much better & i'm enjoying it. The "Groundhog" episode in particular was impressive.
Definitely a grower.

Would driving have been better?
Last weeks episode was fantastic and one of my favs yet, not because of the VOTW but the development of the story. I believe the next episode is Jason Priestly's first
I knew the person before Tru was her mum, and I was right
The UK start date was posted in that thread a month back BTW
Just seen ep 14
Jason Priestly  I just hope he lives up to expectations.
This week was good for backstory but it was all so obvious. As soon as I saw that guy it was clear that her dad had paid him to kill Tru's mum and now he's new wife. Tru's normally pretty sharp too.
What's with Davis? They haven't explained how he knew about her mum. He drops a bombshell and doesn't fill her in on it?
Don't get to like it too much guys as I've got a feeling its already being cancelled......
from the E! website:(
Tru Calling: So strange. Fox put a new show up against Friends and Survivor on Thursday nights and (looky there!) it didn't do so well. Despite Buffy fans' excitement over the return of Eliza Dushku, Tru Calling is currently rated 131 out of 165 shows in the Nielsens and doesn't look likely to get a second season
Shame, I have enjoyed it so far, Davis is my fav character, Ialso like Tru's brother
Not that im ghey or anything.
Just watched the pilot and really enjoyed it
Tried to stick with it, but after 5 or 6 eps, i didnt have any incentive to watch future eps. Boring.
i didn't make it past the pilot, as much as i like Eliza I thought it just looked stinky.
Saber, your theory in the other thread is correct.
Do you think it will get a 2nd season? They seem to have done all the good things now, I can't really think of any new type of story lines to spice it up.
It is a shame about Jack, I liked him.

I've seen the first episode and number 15, i can't really see this show has much to go on. It's a bit like Early Edition that came out about 10 years ago, its not a new idea really. And that the main character don't have any special powers, keep thinking she would say 5 by 5 :D

That's true although it has it's own spin on that an really the only interesting character in EE was Fisher stevens (creator of Johnny 5). I think it's an entertaining series and it's getting better.
Just saw Ep 16. Again, more developments although not as gripping as the previous ep. I'm sure I remember the girl from Buffy (She was in 1 ep). Looks like Jack was working his magic at the end
Just saw ep 19 & 20......
OMG!!!!!!!!!11111111111
At first I thought Jack has a point and he is not really that bad, but after what he did... and then finding out about the dad
They had better make another season!!!
On tvtome it says it maybe picked up for another season, as it is listed in the new seasons predictions, i'm not sure what proof they have that it will be back though. http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/FeaturePage/featureid-111

This episode highlighted some of the reasons I get annoyed with Tru calling. I'm sure Tru's an intellegant girl, but she's so stupid sometimes. It was so clear that talking to jack was a bad idea and that something wasn't right. The fact he happened to show up at the morgue was a big sign. Also if you almost died like harrison did the other week wouldn't you mention it to Tru, seeing as they practically talk all the time?
Also, it would have been good for Tru to have more time to study Jack if she'd realised he was a reliver too. It would have made work more akward.
Also I knew her dad was no good. Didn't I say paid the other bloke to kill Tru's mum? I can't believe it didn't click with Tru. Also meeting Jack at the funeral was a bit stupid, wouldn't he be worried that Tru might spot his car? And since when do all bad guys have Chaufers anyway?
I still love the show though, I just wish it wasn't so sloppy. It took Quantum Leap years to get to this point so it's interesting TC got here in one series
I liked the cover of "In the air tonight" at the end too
It was obvious that the Dad was bad and had hired someone to kill the wife but I did not think it would be because he was a reliver. I wonder why he does not have the power anymore, I thought maybe it was genetic but I guess not so I wonder how Jack and the dad met, and how come dad would seem not to have his ability anymore.
As for QL, I agree, the good thing about QL is that every episode was in a different setting so at least it was more varied, I can't really see how (if they make another season) they will keep the quality up because there is only so many situations where someone can die in.

Brilliant episodes, Jack vs Tru sets up an interesting Season 2 thriller, can you imagine if the finale for Season 2 is Jack dies and asks for Tru's help? That'll be well good!
Thought it was the best of what Tru Calling could deliver, it usually is the "guess who" of the week, but now we see an enemy in admists of trying to save people, the opposite, really does make me continue watching it, these past few episodes have shown that, if it was still on villian of the week, I wouldn't bother with S2
Maybe Jack and Tru are brothers? (Same father different mother maybe) - that would be weird...
So much potentional, lets hope it gets renewed for the 04/05 season!
How come if it is genetic, Merideth and Harrison don't have it.

Good point, but could go to the last one born after the death of the mother? I'm sure if/when it gets renewed, we'll see a classy explaination!
Just because it's genetic doesn't automatically mean all children will inherit it. Maybe the powers that be thought Tru would be the best one to recieve the gift
I was wondering what was going on on the Tru calling front since we haven't heard much recently. Funnily enough I got an update almost immeadiatly from this:
http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,271|91219|1|,00.html
It's a bit unclear about the situation though. It starts of one way, then they're almost talking like Tru's been canceled. I don't know whether it's bad news or if it's nothing new. I hope that if Fox decides to cancel it the WB take it because it's truely a lot better than a lot of other shows. Why they stick it in a tough timeslot is beyond me

yeah, she ditched faith way too early. tru calling had to find a NEW audience and dushku isn't big enough, yet for that kind of deal. a faith show would have taken a lot of angel/buffy fans with it and had more chance of surviving and increasing her profile for later projects. geller is only reaping the rewards, now of her 7 years on buffy.

I'm not sure if it's worth buying the boxset of season one now. Knowing there's no conclusion.
I'm sick and tired of getting into shows that get cancelled. TV companies will soon wonder why nobody is watching at all, but waiting for DVD boxsets of complete series they can watch knowing there's an end.

Yes, he means the last 6 eps made (ie the first 6 of S2).
I'm not sure it's been officially cancelled, I'm waiting for an announcment but if it is it makes no sense. Renew the series and then cancel it before it airs? Why not give it a go and see what ratings it gets? It was one of the most promising prospects this year.

If the first 6 of S2 is in the can then it would be logical (as far as US TV execs can be) to wait to see what the DVD sales are like before thinking about putting out the last 6. OTOH what market would six eps of a cancelled show get on TV or DVD?
So did they actually make some eps from season two then? I thought they hadn't shot anything.
Of course they did. TC was scheduled to start in Nov and would have had to have several episodes in the can by that time. Most shows start shooting again in July I believe, although that's probably for late september premiers. Having 6 in the can isn't unusual AFAIK, wonderfalls had 13 and it aired 4 IIRC although that might be because it was a mid-season show and had built up a bigger backlog.
If there's any consolation it'll be Fox picking up the Barenaked Ladies show (which of course will be canceled before it's aired or something stupid like that).

Anybody bought the dvd set?yes, got mine today-comes in 3 thinpak cases quite a nice looking set.
Bought mine today in London for the same price as playusa (minus customs worrys)
The shrinkwrap had a uk "15" sticker on it which I thought odd as the rest of their dvd's aren't marked that way,so it's not a dodge to make them look like UK releases.

It must have been a dodge since selling R1 DVDs in shops in this country is illegal. Nice that you got it though. (minus customs issues).
The fact is none of the other R1 dvd's were marked this way.
There doesn't seem to be a huge problem with selling R1 dvd's in London. The Cinema Store has a huge section where they are all on show in a "A to Z" format with new releases on the wall.Laserworld also have theirs on display alongside the shop in great Russell Street where I picked up my set from.
Laserworld and The Cinema store sell to a lot of people in the movie industry so you think someone would have kicked up a fuss by now.

I suppose now the market has changed with closer release dates, raiding places selling R1 titles isn't much of a priority anymore.
Laserworld and the cinema stores set up has been the same for years though.
Just finished watching the final episode and it was an excellent series.
The characterisation wasn't brilliant but I enjoyed the twists to each episode.
Can't believe it's been cancelled, though I'm sure we'll see the six episodes from season 2 and they may even film a seventh to tidy things up (wishful thinking?).

This was actually a lot of fun to watch. I thought Eliza would be typecast as the 'bad girl' after Faith but she is very believable in this and I kind of understand now why she turned down the Buffy spin-off. Mind you, some of the dialogue they gave her in Buffy s7 was reason enough to do something different!
The R2 release will contain all the Season 1 AND the 6 season 2 episodes.

I might be tempted to buy this now
I'm pretty surre that they'll release the 6 eps on a 2 disc set in R1. And it'll be a lot, lot cheaper than the R2 BS.
And is there any chance it'll come back - would another network snap it up?
And why do people keep calling their thread 'the official?' Am I the only person it irritates? Does it make the op feel cool or something? Sounds like an argument between kkids at primary school - 'My thread's better than yours, cos mine's OFFICIAL!' - WTF?
/rant over:D
And why do people keep calling their thread 'the official?' Am I the only person it irritates? Does it make the op feel cool or something?
I'd say you're the only one it bothers. I don't think anyone does it to be cool just to say "post your stuff here".
Jeez people take offence at the littlest things!!
I changed the title as it originally was a thread that had a link the first few minutes of episode one before it aired.
The thread was still being used after S1 finished so I thought a title change was in order.

Do you really think so? A cancelled season with just 6 of eps being released. I can't see it. Even if they did release a single double sided disc with the remaining 6 eps on R1 of course it would be cheaper than an R2 set that contained the entire first season and the 6 eps of season two.
Just glad I waited for the R2 set. :D :D As I see an R1 set of season two as unlikely. Why was it not just added onto the season one set?
Series 2 debuts 31st March on Fox. It replaces Point Pleasant which was intended to replace Tru Calling. Could a reprive for next season be on the cards if this run does well?
That would be a great turnaround, unfortunatly the cast may no longer be under contract.I'm sure I read that 90210 was starring in some new show next season and surely Eliza wont be waiting for the phone to ring...
