View Full Version : Donnie Darko Directors Cut & Frank The Bunny Toy!
Look here (http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=16337) for news on a potential theatrical release and DVD release of a Donnie Darko DC next year with "stuff not available on the DVD"! Can't wait for the Frank toy.
Has anyone here read the Donnie Darko book yet?

It'll be nice to see the opening with INXS instead of the Bunnymen, and West End Girls in place of Notorious during the "dance" number...
thank you for pointing out that the book is out!
I've been trying to get a copy of the screenplay for bloomin' ages!
yay! :D
I knew about West End Girls being too costly, so they went with Notorious but what was the deal with INXS in place of Killing Moon? Was this something you picked up from one of the commentaries?
What INXS track would they have used, anyway? Personally, I liked the use of Echo and the Bunnymen :)
Yeh the the Bunnymen track works really well at the start of the film, I love the fact they are still saying that the film didn't make it's $5million production costs back, they'll have made more than that off the DVDs alone.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I got it from the commentary (will check). I remember Kelly saying that he really missed Never Tear Us Apart at the beginning. I like the Bunnymen track too but perhaps the INXS song will work even better...
:)
EDIT: Hi James!
Alright matey! I emailed you back by the way.
Ah, I know it well. As much as I like Never Tear Us Apart, I think the fundamental problem is this one... I'm used to Killing Moon as it is the on eI heard when I first saw the film and will always be associated with the opening of that film.
Personally I do not think teh INXS track would suit that opening scene better - I hope the director doesn't get the "Lucas" bug
As you can see in this shot, Frank shoots first, thereby destroying the time portal paradox - I got that from Star Wars: A New Hope, you know? (cheque's in the post George)

 at Jorin!
i think killing moon is a cracking start to the film - one of the reasons I love this film is the soundtrack - every song on there is perfect (imho).
directors cut would be interesting but I cant help but think they could end up ruining one of my fav films!

Same here! :(
But I'm sure I'll buy it and watch it! :D
Psycho
i was hoping for a new DVD of it
when you watch the deleated scenes the director is like "i wish we'd left this in" and talks about how much better it'd be if they hadn't cut stuff
i guessed they didn't get chance to do another version for the DVD but there were some cool scenes deleated
like donnie taking placebos
The film is great the way it is! Why doesn't Richard Kelly leave it and now give us a nother great film?

INXS sounds like a very bad idea to me. Why replace a good song with one that is really not so good? The only deleted scene I think is worth putting back in is the one with Donnie and his dad. The rest are expendable IMO.
