View Full Version : Another "Name This Series" Thread....
I was a great fan of mystery/detective series growing up in the 80's watching things like Hart to Hart and Matlock but there was one that may even have been late 70's that I just can't name.
This US series featured a leading man who had been framed and put in prison. While he was there he learnt all about being a thief, burglar etc.. and when he was released set himself up as a private detective using those skills to help people, possible hiding behind a secret identity. He always left a playing card so the bad guys knew who had beaten them.
Any ideas?
When this one's sorted I've got another mystery series.
Deaks.
I'm gonna hazard a guess at 'sword of justice' ? starring Dack Rambo (check imdb, they have a short synopsis)
edit - I've just double checked and I think I'm right
"Dack Rambo plays millionaire playboy Jack Cole, who, after the death of his parents, is framed on charges of embezzlement. In prison, Cole learns various tricks of the criminal trade - lockpicking, safe-cracking, electronic surveillance, etc. Upon his release, Cole uses his wealth and his newly learned talents to help others, leaving his calling card, a "sword of justice", at the scene."

Dack Rambo - coolest name ever.. :notworthy
One virtual-beverage of your choice to worthit, would never have found that one!
OK, the next series is about a train....
A bit of a Fantasy Island ripoff, each week various characters would board the train expecting a run-of-the-mill journey, only to find themselves either back in time, or otherwise transported to places where they could fix something that was wrong in their lives.

I have one, I dont know if I made it up in my head tho as I have never seen it since I was a kid.
I was about this guy that used to take the place of people that were in trouble by making face masks hairpieces and once he looked like them he would find out who was trying to kill them and bring justice down on them.
If its real it would have been on tv when I was around 7 or 8 in 1984 or 1985. If its not real I have a very vivid imagination :cuckoo: :cuckoo: :cuckoo:

I don't know any of these series' but they all sound way cooler than some of the crap we get these days!

I have a show I'd love to know the name of, but I can barely remember a thing about it =( It was from the 80's, I'm sure.
All I can remember is a tiny part of the opening credits when a guy who looked a bit like an old, fat, balding nick nolte bursts into someone's house firing a shotgun. Although it's possible it was his house and he was firing at someone breaking in. He had a partner, a young guy who reminded me of the secondary character in the Fall Guy. They'd go around stopping bad guys and I thinkt here was some sort of antagonism between them
Damn, I'm never going to get this one =\ It sounds like every cop/detective show made in the 70's and 80's =P
I remember that train one...Vincent Price was in it.
Was it this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078702/) ?
Yep, that sounds like the one. Four episodes! I'm surprised it was ever shown over here at all!
OK, here's another, from the UK this time. A TV repair man believes he's fighting alien invaders everynight while he's supposed to be asleep. The main thing I remember was that the alien technology was all based around cathode-tubes which was topical as transistors where revolutionising electronics at that time, but this repair man was "old-school". This was one a sitcom.

Crazy Like a Fox (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086691/)
Deaks' one is Kinvig I think -- details here (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0081888/).
andybhoy's might be Hardcastle and McCormick (if it's not Crazy Like A Fox). Here's a picture (http://epguides.com/HardcastleandMcCormick/): certainly it had the older man/younger guy combo.

It's funny how there's so few characters on TV nowadays with nicknames like "Skidmark". :D

Yep, its Hardcastle & McCormick. The old guy was shooting at someone else within his house. He was a retired (I think) judge and the younger bloke was a con he'd sent away for a few years who'd decided to help society so they teamed up to fight crime. It kicked ass from what I remember !

Sounds Like 'The Human Target' but that was around in the early nineties.
anybody help me with this one
it started by a ship being taken into the Bermuda Triangle and the people on the ship ended up in a strange land, trying to survive.
There is a film called Bermuda Triangle on IMDB, but this was definitely a US TV series from the late 70's/early 80's

The Fantastic Journey (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0075503/) , per chance?
Did it have Roddy McDowall in? Was it a bit sci-fish?

Maybe I should start subbing to threads =P =)
EDIY:
The old guy killed himself in 1997 - aged 76 =(
His younger partner was in the second episode of Las Vegas - whoch I watched but there was no way I was going to recognise him!

Hardcastle & McCormick had a great theme tune but can't
get it anywhere (the original with lyrics not the intrumental
versions)
The series also had a great looking car, (it's a rusty heap
now in Universal Studios Florida iirc)

Are you sure you're not thinking of this one, starring Kate O'Mara:
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0081951/
Other than that, there is a Beyond the Bermuda Triangle listed on IMDB which I remember from my childhood, but this is only a TV movie, not a series.
'Drive' was the Hardcastle & McCormack theme tune IIRC,it's been on a US theme tune cd as well.

Yep, spot on. I was about to post that. Ive the pilot on VHS somewhere. In which, the young lad "McCormick" is a racing driver who is always speeding on the roads. His mate or something builds this racing car "cyotee" and in the first one, the mad old judge "hardcastle" lets him out of prison to help him solve the murder of the guy who made this car. McCormick hates Hardcastle, but he kepts him working for him with the threat of jail. The scene where the old man shoots the shotgun is also in the first episode, its his guest house and he`s just had burglers.
I used to love it though. Great show, with loads of car chases and stuff. The car looks a lot like a mclaren f1, but with 70`s styling! lol.

I need help remembering the title of a UK sitcom. All I can remember was that it aired after the Spider-man live-action TV series on a Friday night, and involved a regular bloke from Earth falling in love with an alien chick. The only thing I really remember is that the alien woman had a different, very outrageous hairstyle every week!!!
