I had a bit of a problem with watching the new Matrix DVD yesterday as soon a the film starts i.e trinity does here window jump thing there was a weird pop corn type sound which was much loader than the movie sound track.
I stopped every thing as I thought I had blown somthing checked the whole system over and ran my test movie the dirt bike sceen in XXX loads of bass no problem from the sub.
So I put the matrix disk back in and it start off again.
I then take the phono out of the left input socket on the sub and put in in to the right and it is fine for the rest of the movie.
Are there any known problems with the R2 copy of the matrix reloaded or have I got a duff copy
Thanks for an info on this guys

I have a similar problem with my R1 Reloaded.
I've also had this in the asteroid scene in Attack of the Clones.
I think it's a volume thing, as if I turn the volume of the sub down a bit, it's OK. Wouldn't mind knowing if there's a better solution though.

I came to this same conclusion last night after feeling what the sub did in this scene. I think that the gun fire carries a rapid bass sound at the same time as bass from the falling glass and the music it is just to much for the speaker to handle.
I got a copy of reloaded from a friend to test and it is worse so I think it is just the way the sound has been recorded on the matrix.
I think I may get a better sub may be!!!

Speaking of Reloaded. I just got this system last night:

http://products.sony.ie/productdetail.asp?id=__2446&search=HTDDW750

and tried playing Reloaded. It used Pro Logic (it tells you in the display what technology is being used to decode) but I couldn't get it to use DD. Would this make a difference to the sound as the rear speakers didn't have much effect so didn't get any real surround sound feeling. What parts of the film have surround effects so I can test it properly?

You need to ensure that whatever DVD Player your are using is set to output a DD stream (and not PCM) to the Sony Amp and that you are using an appropriate digital RCA cable from your player to the digital input on your amp (or next best an optical cable). Then check on the amp for a setting like 'auto detect' and that should detect the DD stream from your player and away you go. If this is your first surround system that you have merely added to a current dvd player it is likely to be the players output setting that means you are only getting PLII...........I think............maybe

thanks for the reply. Is there much difference between PLII and DD? What about DTS?

DD and DTS are about the same I have to say I have only one disk with DTS and it sounds just like the DD to me.
PLII how ever is just stereo reprocessed to sound abit cooler not a patch on DD and DTS however.
