Regarding "Chicken Run", MichaelDVD advises that the Region 4 disc misses out substantially on audio features and in the extras department:

The R1 version has DTS ES 6.1 as well as DVD-ROM extras and various Easter Eggs. The R2 version retains the DTS-ES 6.1 soundtrack but substitutes featurettes. The R2 would appear to be marginally the version of choice because of these inclusions.

http://www.dvdcompare.org.uk/comparisons/film_results_page.php?fid=254 compares the R1 and R2 of Chicken Run and the result is a draw, so just get whichever you can find cheapest :)

I have both the Chicken Run and the Aardman Classics DVD's, both are R2. We watched Chicken Run again the other night and enjoyed it, there are quite a few extras on the disc but you'll probably only watch the 'making of' featurettes more than once.

The Aardman Classics collection is something you watch bits of now and again basically being a collection of short films and the complete collection of 'Heat/Cook/Shower/Whatever Electric' adverts from a few years ago. Some of these are more watchable than others and a few of them have commentaries from the crew that worked on them. There are also some galleries from the various productions as well as animator's bio's and a hidden short film. Of course, the Oscar-winning Creature Comforts is included too.

I'd recommend both but the Aardman Classics collection is probably of most interest to people who already enjoy the other creations of the Aardman studio (Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run Etc)

All three Wallace & Gromit adventures are on one disc, I don't think there's a boxset of Aardman stuff (I think this is what you mean) as the three discs are distributed by different people:

W&G = BBC
Aardman Classics = Momentum
Chicken Run = Dreamworks/Pathe

On the subject of Aardman stuff, where on earth is Rex the Runt? Surely it's time this got a release? I know it's available in Japan but it's expensive and it's surely worthy of a release over here.

Shoot me if I'm wrong....but I think the R1 W & G (The Incredible Adventures of Wallace & Gromit) has commentaries and a few more extras, where the R2 doesn't.

Cheers :)

You could well be right, I wasn't aware that there was a R1 version and the R2 has few extras to speak of but no commentaries.
