Hi,

I got a DV350 from Amazon at the beginning of the year and now it has started to become faulty. Basically when i playback DVDs i hear this scraping noise (it sounds like the DVD is slipping off the mounts or something) and the DVD starts skipping. It seems random at the moment although it only does it on a few (perfectly fine) DVDs.

Anyway, i got it from Amazon with whatever multiregion mod they use, so will Pioneer replace it?

Thanks!

if you bought new, your warrenty will be with amazon not pioneer and they should. I doubt Pioneer would 'cause the Mod will have negated their warrenty, espeicially if its hardware.

Your warranty is with Amazon. Speak to them.

Amazon are wrong they are totally liable for its repair etc. What they are basically doing is trying it on to save themselves money. Pioneer are under no obligation at all if its multiregion as the hardware has a modified firmware flashed to it. The only other company possibly liable is your credit card company if you used your credit card for purchase. Your first port of call with any fault is the original retailer they are liable whatever.

In an earlier post there was something from Pioneer that they would not undertake any warrenty work for the players from Amazon because of the multi region aspect. This was on the long thread in the Hardware forum.

I suspect Amazon will re flash a non multiregion firmware to it perhaps by temporarily connecting another dvd loader and then send it to Pioneer anyway.

None of which excuses Amazon from their contractual obligations.

Tell whoever you speak to at Amazon to read the case notes of Donaghue vs Stevenson (1932) and then come back to you - this really is a concrete area of consumer law and your contract is with them.
