View Full Version : Another Disney release question - authorititive list of titles worth getting wanted.

Ok, we all know that the likes of Lady & The Tramp, Jungle Book etc.. have been OOP for a good while, but as they are due to be released in the future as Platinum releases, I'm not too desperate/keen to shell out £30+ on these titles.
Only those that have a release date as a Platinum title beyond 2006/7 would I consider getting the bare bones single disk version now (and pay a bit for obviously)
I think Lady & The Tramp is labelled for a 2009/10 release though - hence that would be on my list of wants for the single release now (I understand the R1 version is the better version as well)
Of the current Platinum releases, I was surprised to hear that both Beauty and the Beast and Sleeping Beauty were both now OOP - hence I will be getting these sharpish.
I have looked at sites like Ultimate Disney and have often found conflicting information about releases etc..
I would like to compile for my own benefit a list of Disney single disk releases that would be worth getting now (mainly I suppose the obscure ones - just to be complete), a list of platinum titles worth getting, and a list of those going/gone OOP that are a must have (as it'll be a good 10 years before they make a re-appearance)

Disney are stepping up the releases of their Platinum titles to every 6 months from next year, so Lady & Tramp is coming sooner than you think.
The Lion King - October 2003
Aladdin - March 2004
The Little Mermaid - October 2004
Bambi - March 2005
The Jungle Book - October 2005
Cinderella - March 2006
Lady and the Tramp - October 2006
101 Dalmatians - March 2007
Fantasia - October 2007
each of these go OOP within about 3 months of release (although retailers with stock can still sell them they can not reorder new stock).
There are also some new 2 disk SEs non-Platinum coming out next year in R1 so probably here as well.
These include Alice in Wonderland & Mary Poppins

Are you sure this has been confirmed? According to the booklet that came with the R1 Lion King - Aladdin is still down for Oct 04 (reads something like - "look out for the next Platinum release Aladdin in October 2004")

Well, Jungle Book, Little Mermaid and Lady and the Tramp can wait for the Platinum releases - and probably 101 Dalmations. My 8 year old son has never really bothered with any of the Disney's I have collected, I just hope my 9 month old daughter won't let me down. She'll be nearly 4 when Lady & The Tramp is re-released, and 4 and a bit when 101 Dalmations is re-released. Good timing methinks!
I just need to target one or two of the other big titles like Dumbo - which I understand is OOP - and with no SE release mentioned it should be worth picking up now before it start attracting silly money.

There was another resource site (not Ultimate Disney) that listed all of the titles and what was planned for release/re-release. I think it was run by an individual fan - can anyone provide the link? (And any others as well)
Cheers
What is the point of all this when they have a different release schedule in R2 and R4??????

The Disney titles I would bother with are:
Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs: OOP Platinum Title
Pinocchio: Platinum Title in many years. R2 Restored vesrion available
Fantasia: Platinum Title in many years. R1 S.E Available
Dumbo: OOP R1 SE available
Bambi: Platinum Title coming soon
Beauty And The Beast: OOP Platinum Title
Aladdin: Platinum Title coming soon
The Lion King: Platinum Title just released!
None of the other Disney films are too great in my opinion :(
{Excluding the Pixar films of course!**
Bambi 2 disc special edition is now available to pre order (01/03/05) at Amazon and dvdpacific, so it it should start to appear on more sites soon.
If anyone is after Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs I told my brother last week to try tower records (us) as I have used them before with no problems for other dvds and a couple of days of his order they shipped it!
So hopefully they still have stock as the status is still the same.

Isnt Alice In Wonderland Masterpiece Edition out instead of a Platinum version?
Surely they cant be re-releasing it so soon?

Yeah, and a new 40th anniversary Mary Poppins SE is out in December so I doubt that'll be released again anytime soon either.
EDIT: Doh, I guess Carl and myself didn't notice when the post in question was made: it was last year! So malcy is entirely right. :)
Lol
I take it Zebedee likes to resurrect dead threads. Or just Sunday boredom!

I got this info from Ultimate Disney (http://www.ultimatedisney.com/) which seems to keep up-to-date on releases.
There's a trailer for Bambi with The Incredibles, it has a Feb 14th 2005 release date :)

yes saw it too. cinemas put wayyyy too many ads before kids movies though! and Joober - the sooner your cinema gets a mob phone blocker the better IMO!
I agree totally, but it involves money! Not a chance in hell ;)
