View Full Version : Dungeons and Dragons R2 DTS?
Does the R2 version of Dungeons and Dragons (EIV) feature a DTS soundtrack, like the R4 version?

It definitely DOESN'T have a DTS track on it, although the DD5.1 track it does have is exceedingly good (unlike the film itself!).
I've yet to hear a decent DTS track from EIV anyway and the ones they provided for Little Nicky, 15 minutes and Lost Souls were indistinguishable from the Dolby efforts anyway (except for the poor lip-sync they all have!).

You cheeky swine!.
I have a Toshiba 200E as it happens (not too shabby!), but the lip-sync issues with those discs aren't tolerance-based. They're just poorly encoded and play the same on all players (decent or otherwise!).
Little Nicky:- When Nicky is attempting to retrieve his flask. This segment is noticeably awry (especially Arquette's dialogue).
15 Minutes:- The audio is slightly out in some early scenes and horribly wayward in the final 3rd (you can't fail to notice it!)
Lost Souls:- I only rented it (ages ago), but I remember that some of the revelatory scenes in the church towards the end were "off".
The problem is definitely confined to the DTS tracks though, so if you've only heard the DD tracks, then there's nothing to complain about. The tracks themselves are "faulty" if you like and they will sound botched on any conceivable set-up.
If the DTS audio DOESN'T lose its way (in the moments highlighted above), then your DVD player is doing something very unorthodox and not reading them properly (have you considered a Toshiba?!)...
Hehe, I have only seen Lost Souls on my player in DTS (R2 obviously) and didn't notice any probs, though as my missus will tell you I don't notice everything I should (ooer) :D

And your lover will till you the same - we're over sweety! ;)
Just watched Dungeons & Dragons (R4) and although it has the DTS logo on the packaging (twice) it turns out there is no DTS track on the DVD: there's just AC3. It's a good DD5.1 track though.
Interesting to watch this film after LOTR. It is a much faster paced film and it has more of a sense of humour, although obviously the CGI is not as good. I wonder how Jeremy Irons would have fared playing Saruman? He would probably have hideously over-acted that as well!!
BTW, if you didn't like the film but you have access to the DVD, try watching the deleted scenes as they explain crucial plot elements so that it does all in fact make sense - it's not really clear why they were deleted.

I beg to differ. The R4 version certainly DOES have DTS on it. You did try selecting the different audio options! There aren't easy to get to. The 1st time I watch it I changed it from the audio option on my player once it had started.
However, if you go into special features and answer the 3 questions correctly you will find the audio options at the top of the screen. (just went and verified all this)

I paid a massive $16.82 aussie dollars for mine :D
The sound is in the battle scenes is just amazing.
Thanks very much, I'll try it. I use a HTPC as my player and it is usually completely reliable telling me if an alternative audio track is available. Obviously with this disk you have to do something 'special' to activate DTS - I've never heard of that before.

They couldn't be included because they weren't even finished!. I think the studio must have realised how badly things were panning out (awful acting, clueless director etc) and decided not to throw good money after bad. I agree that those scenes would have made the story easier to follow, but the film would still have been terrible...
