Here's a of Halloween at Bullets n Babes (http://www.bulletsnbabesdvds.com/article.php?sid=522)!

There's no commentary by John Carpenter, I wonder why he didn't record one for it? He's usually excellent!

Back in the days of laserdisc, Criterion produced an excellent Halloween set which included, amongst other extras, a commentary with John Capenter.

It doesn't feature on any of the various R1 or R2 releases of Halloween, and this is presumably because Criterion wouldn't allow Anchor Bay the rights to its LD extras.

I suppose Carpenter could have recorded another one for the DVD release, but I guess he didn't want to?

The original Criterion laserdisc set included:-

*Audio commentary by John Carpenter, Debra Hill and Jamie Lee Curtis

*Original theatrical trailer

*Seperate music and effects track

*Additional footage shot for the 1980 television release

*Photo essay on the making, marketing, and mimicking of Halloween

*Illustrated filmographies of John Carpenter, Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis

*Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert give splatter movies the thumbs down while praising Halloween in a controversial 1980 sneak previews segment

*Genre guide by John McCarty, including capsule reviews of cold-blooded killer movies from "Bad Seed, The" to Halloween 5 (1989).

I guess when Anchor Bays rights to the movie end, there is a good chance that we may well see this lot as a Criterion DVD at some point.

Nick D is right - John Carpenter has recorded a Halloween commentary, but it's sitting in Criterion's vaults. I don't think Criterion have ever licensed one of their extras to a rival label - Armageddon may be an exception, but that rather depends on who owned the rights in the first place: I suspect Buena Vista has a fairly strong claim to them.
