OK so since it's coming close to Halloween what's your favourite Horror flicks?

Here's a few I really like

An American Werewolf in London
The Frighteners
Halloween
In the Mouth of Madness (Carpenter's best)
Jaws
The Omen
The Thing

I also like:

A Nightmare on Elm St. (only Part 3 was the best out the sequels)
Scream
The Shining

Exorcist III
Son of Frankenstein , with Basil Rathbone
Evil Dead II

hmm, now I've written them down, I realise that they're all sequels. Strange.

Scary movies I like to watch with the lights off are

Halloween
Just discovered this film and it rocks. It gives me the shivers something rotten.

Evil Dead 2
Although the 3rd one is my real favourite its not really a horror film its an action horror/comedy. The 2nd one is a cracking horror.

The Sixth Sense
Always manages to make me jump

Nightmare on Elm Street
First one is the best, rest are poor to ok.

Poltergeist one or two
That old bloke gives me the shivers !

Blair witch project
Scares me to think that people actually paid to see this rubbish. The only terrifying thoughts going through my head was that I could have done something a lot more worthwhile with the time than watching this tripe!!

Evil Dead 2 (though it's not that scary, it is a great movie)
The Pit and the Pendulum (Vincent Price, baby!)
The Haunting (the Robert Wise version)
Suspiria
Ring
The Blair Witch Project (why don't people like this movie?)
The Shining
Reanimator

EDIT!
forgot...

Dawn of the Dead
The Thing (Carpenter)
Carnival of Souls

Again, no particular order of preference:

Suspiria
Inferno
Phenomena
Dellamorte Dellamore
Stagefright
Black Sunday
Black Sabbath (especially The Drop of Water sequence)
The Company of Wolves
Black Christmas
Halloween
Braindead
Nosferatu

Barely scratched the surface though, and I would also have included Profondo Rosso (and any number of other gialli come to that), Audition, Sisters & Eraserhead but I'm undecided as to whether they're actually "horror" films or not! :)

Dracula (1958)

IT- Tim Curry scariest clown ever!

Candyman

The Fog - probably my favourite

Hmm...

Carnival of Souls (Herk Harvey) - I was one of the ones in anticipation for this from Criterion for months and was not let down by the film or its presentation

Sisters - my favourite De Palma (somewhat controversially) - in my opinion the perfect psychoanalytic-slasher-shocker with a wild Herrmann score

Let Sleeping Corpses Lie - incredibly creepy, especially since I know locations that look exactly like those in the film. Brilliantly paced and beautifully photographed with a terrific plot, soundtrack, messy gore and chilling atmosphere

The Shining - Kubrick done good

The Thing - terrific shocker and has sentimental value attached for me

Alien - another one of the films I always looked at the box of in the video store, and didn't get to see for years. When I did, it was in widescreen, though!

The Most Dangerous Game - skin-crawling gothic horror from 1932 that is, for some reason, very familiar to me from the first time I saw it. Wonderful performance from Leslie Banks and an evocative score from Max Steiner

Suspiria - sorry, did I say 'evocative score'? :D

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre - probably the most nerve-violating film I have ever seen

Theater of Blood - Vincent Price in the role of a lifetime with the cream of British acting talent to strike off one-by-one with some delirously bloody and comical deaths

And that's all I can think of for now.

Hellraiser is superb.
Evil Dead 1 and 2 (although no.3 is great, apart from a breif oozing of blood near the beginning, it's no real horror movie!)

Alien (it's horror enough for me!)

Interesting to see "Exorcist 3" mentioned. It's one I liked and then loved on repeated viewings. Here's hoping fo ran SE with the original ending (as scripted, can't say for sure it was actually shot). Keep the release ending too, though, for George's "I believe in...." speech.

Very interested to see "Book of Shadows", too. A seriously good creepy movie that, again, grows on repeated viewings. Belong to the "BWP is a masterpiece" school, too.

Otherwise:-

Dawn of the Dead
The Beyond
House by the Cemetary
Inferno
Dead of Night (1946)
The Kingdom
Exorcist III
Blair Witch Project
Night of the Demon (aka Curse of)
Night of the Creeps (smashing, bring Fred Dekker back!)
The Keep
Day of the Beast
Necronomicon (Yuzna)

Plus, unhealthy fondness for Friday 13th, Children of the Corn films (all of them - hahahaha) and The Mangler (I love Ted Levine in this one).

Nice to see The Fog on some lists, well here goes my most watched & loved horror movies.

L'Arcano Encantatore - Pupi Avati, beautifully paced & dripping in nightmarish atmosphere.

Halloween III Season of the Witch - there's something comforting about Tom Atkins & this Carpenteresq creepfest, I'll never forget seeing this at the ABC Streatham back in 1983!

Return of the Blind Dead - only the Spanish full uncut version is worth watching, tons of gore not in the Anchor Bay dvd, best of the series IMHO.

Viy aka Vij - finally caught up with this much written about Russian treat this year, amazing effects for it's time & they still hold up today.

Friday the 13th 5 A New Beginning - utter trash but great fun with an up-for-it New York opening night audience, screaming & throwing popcorn at the screen.

The Fog - classic frightfest, scared the living daylights out of me at the Classic Tooting.....

Alien - boy did i regret seeing this on my own at the cinema, nightmares for weeks.

& lastly, Braindead - went straight home & took a shower, never have i felt so unclean after watching a movie!!
