Screen "bad guys"

Reading the greatest movie mobster thread got me thinking, who's the most terryfying screen character of all time?

I think Dennis Hopper in "Blue Velvet" is scary, wouldn't like o meet him in a dark alley.

What does everyone else think?

Anthony Hopkins in SOLT or Hannibal
Joe Pesci as Tommy DeVito in Goodfellas
Al Pacino as Tony Montana in Scarface

Silvio Dante from The Sopranos (Steve van Zandt)
Brick top from Snatch (Alan Ford)
Scorpio from Dirty Harry (best on screen psycho I've ever seen)

If we're talking terrifying screen characters than thats different

Peter Vaughan in "Straw Dogs" - not only does he look appalling, his eyes are just going insane throughout. He doesn't actually do much, but then he doesn't have to.

Bill McKinney in "Deliverance" - truly frightening even after, well you know what happens.

John Cassavettes is a scream in "The Fury" and his fate is more than deserved - but what a fate !

On a more prosaic level, Kevin Spacey's bland management-speak in "Glengarry Glen Ross" scares the hell out of me.

Before anyone mentions Gary Oldman as Norman Stansfield in Leon, I think he's totally 0wn3d by Tcheky Karyo as Inspecteur Christin in Dobermann. You gotta love an evil cop...

I agree with most posted above, especially Scorpio from Dirty Harry... though I never thought Hannibal Lector was that great a bad guy...
