View Full Version : Pires talks out of his arse!!!
Just read these quotes from Robert Pires!!!
'There is no hatred between us but we (Arsenal) are always the targets,' said Pires, 'perhaps because it is a team where there are not enough English players.
'We are not a team that is perceived as an an English team - that is what we reckon. Manchester (United) are the favourite team of the English.'
I'm sorry Mr Pires but I beg to differ on this one! If anything it's quite the opposite, especially when it comes to Man Utd being the favourite team of "The English" !!!! :cuckoo:

Yeah sure!!
:cuckoo:
Yep, mis-judged that one hasn't he - ManU are almost certainly the least favourite team in england for the neutral. By his reckoning, we should all hate Bolton even more than Arsenal - but I actually quite like Bolton, they're "plucky" aren't they.

You would think that Newcastle are everyones favourite "second team". If only for Sir Bobby and a certain former England striker.
Although i seem to remember David O'leary touting Leeds as the nations (second) favourite just before things went belly up. :cuckoo:

I don't like Arsenal very much. Partly because of the lack of English players in the team, but mainly becuase of the number of French players in there.
Even one of their own board is annoyed at the way they don't use the players coming through their youth schemes.
Man Utd are the favourites of the media and a hell of a lot of people, but probably the most dis-liked team by fans of other teams.

To be fair, for a brief time, they were fantastic to watch, and I liked them I have to say for the style of play and skill they showed... then the wheels came off.

No, seriously, you don't honestly believe that?
Arsenal player talking codswallop, why surely not! As we all know, Arsenal players are well known for the sane, intelligent, non-paranoid verbal output aren't they? They are so humble with it as well. Surely Mr.Pires has been misquoted?

I definitely think that too, nearly every has been columnist, in every paper, is always preaching on about Man Utd and the 'great' Sir Alex. I think that bias is partly a contributing reason for their hatred amongst other fans.

I'd go along with that, and also the fact they're on TV all the time - the old saying 'familiarity breeds contempt' is about right, I'm sick to death of seeing Man utd, and also Liverpool and Arsenal on all the time, and very little coverage of other clubs.

Exactly - "The Premiership" extended highlights is always for ManU and/or Arsenal. Its really starting to **** me off.

'We are not a team that is perceived as an an English team - that is what we reckon. Manchester (United) are the favourite team of the English.' What's up with you lot, the Journo put the (United) bit in brackets. We all know there's only one team from Manchester, Pires was of course talking about City :norty:

if any team is favoured beyond their status by the media, it has to be Spurs, certainly in terms of the column writers etc
Man United are the least liked by neutrals - but only because they are by a loooooooooooooong way the most successful Premiership team.

Nope, I don't think thats the reason - Liverpool were a lot more successful over a longer period and never managed the level of dislike Man Utd have.

Many football fans can't remember when Liverpool were dominant. Things have changed big time since then.
The profile of the game has grown out of all proportion since Italia '90. Teams which struggled to fill their stadia (e.g Man City, Chelsea) back in the 80s now regularly sell out.
The nature of football supporting has changed too. Fans now define themselves as much by who they hate as who they love (e.g. the Manchester United Ruined My Life - type phenomenon)

Pires...my hero! :luv:
Got number 7 in my personal registration plate (My favourite number plus Pires's shirt number for those that didn't know). Had a Pires goatie up until recently when he won that dubious penalty then shaved it off, was so disappointed with the man.
Might just grow it back after last weeks goal, hehe.

I beg to differ. It's the Utd fans that turn people against the club.

LOL, I take your astounded-ness, but believe me it's more astounding that Man U fans DONT believe there is media favouritism toward their team. Especially Sky, I mean, the team is in many ways the biggest part of keeping their TV revenue ticking over isn't it?
Why ManU fans think this is a bad thing and often seem 'embarassed' by it, is also a mystery... Maybe because it makes mudslinging the Arse supporters harder? ;)

Myths have arisen about certain teams that they have "amazing" supporters who have been filling their team's stadium for decades. You are correct about Newcastle who struggled to fill St James' Park for a long time (a fact the media happily ignore while going on about the "Toon Army").
Even Celtic attendances dwindled to the 30 thousands a few years back. Man City home attendances were in the low 20 thousands before the revival of interest in football. But of course ask anyone these days and they'll swear blind that Maine Road has been constantly full for decades.
Ok, lets just stop all this nonsense right now! :suspect:
Why is it that sooner or later most football threads descend into attendance competitions?????? :oh-hum:
Maybe someone should start a seperate thread on this very subject so that they've got somewhere to post this nonsense?
