My 15 month old Hitachi DD36WF840N has died on me:oh-hum:

I can still get a picture with a DVD source but no joy with TV. It's a DTT model and I'm guessing that the digital tuner has gone tits-up?

I bought it for about £1100, new, from an internet retailer (Crampton and Moore). Their service, delivery etc was great during the sale but, I guess I won't get much joy with an out of warranty problem.

I really would like to get the telly fixed as, when it's working, it has an awesome picture.

So, anyone think this is something I could get fixed and, do you think it's worth me persuing Hitatchi UK for some recompense?

I think that uk law gives you more rights as a consumer than the warranty would suggest, and the 15 months use is not fit for the purpose for which it was sold.

There are more informed people on here, but I would think you have a good case for getting the telly repaired for free.

Thanks Warren. In fact, I've just phoned the supplier and they gave me a direct number for Hitachi. The guy at Hitachi suggested that I send my receipt and description of the problem to their consumer department. He intimated that I would get a satisfactory result.

I'll let you know what the outcome is.

Good old Hitachi!

I wrote a nice, no pressure, letter to them a few days ago. This morning I received a reply authorising a full parts and labour fix through their local dealers. Result.

Cheers

Sorry to dig this up but could you post the number for Hitachi as I have a problem/fault with the on/off switch i.e. the tv comes on but switches itself on and off - I believe it is a common fault with hitachi's or at least my model so might see what they will do.
