View Full Version : Dangerous Liaisons (R2) - Disc any cop?
OK, seen this over at Play cheap so decided to pick up for my girlfriend as it's one of her favourite films...
Is the R2 disc good quality - picture and sound-wise?
Ta.
I also bought this for my girlfriend (one of her favourites too)
Picture quality if very poor IMO.
Girlfriend didn't notice or complain.
 She's got a grotty VHS that we bought years ago when the local video shop shut down. Might get it anyway, doubt she'd notice either ;)
It's better than VHS but not a superb transfer.
IIRC the print showed some dirt/scratches but it's well worth picking up for a fiver if you like the film. I got it in the recent Virgin 5? for £30 offer. I'd forgotten what an excellent set of performances the actors put in.
£6.50 on Play - and being DVD I get to freeze-frame on Uma's norks
EDIT: Just ordered (the freeze-frame clinched it ;) )

Very grainy and not very sharp; poor contrast, colour and detail too, from what I remember. Is watchable though.
As mentioned above - a grainy and faded print, but just about watchable and there aren't any better versions out there. See Mikes review for DVDTimes here (http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=4745). Fabulous film.
There's a new remake of the film out in France, by Josee Dayan, director of the Count of Monte Cristo mini-series. It's another TV adaptation, a 3 part, four a half hour mini-series, set in the 1960s starring Catherine Deneuve, Rupert Everett and Nastassja Kinski. I'll have a review of the French DVD (French subs only) up on DVD Times tomorrow.
wow! Can't wait for that. The Count of Monte Cristo (gotta be careful how you type that one) with Gerard Depardieu and Julie Delpy was the best TV mini-series I've ever seen.
but ... why oh why oh why can't there be a good DVD release of Dangerous Liaisons, seeing as how it is such a fabulous film and all ...

Cruel Intentions is way better and therefore makes Dangerous Liaisons redundant
You really have a problem with period films don't you SG?!:D
Now Cruel Intentions is a good film and all, but it's lunacy to claim its better to Dangerous Liaisons;)(and in many ways its more of a remake of that film then an adaption of the original book).
That said though, if I had to choose between the 2 as one to watch on a random Friday night, I'd probably choose Cruel Intentions:D.
I have the R2 mentioned above, and while I agree the picture isn't great, I think people are being overly harsh above.
It does hail from a time when instead of people bashing Warner for snappers, it was more like praising Warner for actually getting a decent amount of their back catalog on the shiny disc in short order;). The price for this obviously was a lack of extras and obviously transfers have improved a lot over time.
I thought SG was being sarcastic.
Cruel Intentions is cak :p
Here's a review of the new adaptation for your consideration - Les Liaisons Dangereuses (TV) (http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=5768).
