Folks,

Just wondering about the quality of the Panasonic LCD Projector
PT-AE300E . I am considering taking the plunge in stepping up to this model and would appreciate any feedback / advice people may have.

Komplett.ie have this model selling for €1910 euro and based on my findings todate this would appear to be a competative price.

In addition the reveiws I have read seem quite favourable.

A friend has the first model a PT-AE100 and I was quite impressed with that so its bigger and newer brother should be even better.

Any ideas or comments are welcome.

If you can wait, you should get the AE500,which is,on paper at least, way ahead of the 100/200/300.High resolution panels, advanced smooth screen,1300:1 contrast(AE300-800:1).

and reliability issues. There were problems with the AE100 and I don't think the AE300 suffered the same but there's no guarentee there won't be problems with the AE500.

When's the 500 out by the way?

Also, contrast ratios as quoted by the makers can be slightly odd, or out - I know on tests, or best projection settings it isn't always what's quoted. Anyway CR certainly isn't the be all and end all. The degree of pixellation, noise, throw-distance, software (prog scan?) and price are all, imho, way more important than simple CR value. So unless you know how the 500 shapes up on these fronts, and if you're happy with the 300 spec its probably a safer bet to go with the 300.

Sanyo are bringing out a Z2 I believe soon, so if you're willing to wait and check new models, it might be worth looking at that as well as the 500 anyway.

(I have an Epson TW100 btw and am very happy - but it does cost a bit more than the 300)

Bick,i quite accept what you say about manufacturers contrast ratios, and their liberal interpretation.I was basing the 500 on the 300;ie the 300 has had a lot of excellent reviews form magazines and users.Given the same manufacturers(Panasonic) info on the latest model,it seems reasonable to assume the 500 will be a significant improvement,or at the very least is worth waiting to test against others.

TinTin,i would reckon the 500 will cost about £1500,and is being release in Japan this month,US in january and probably april for europe.

Folks,

Thanks for your advice.

My budget is around €2000 max so it would appear I have limited options. In addition I have to be honest I,m quite anxious to upgrade so waiting till the release of the 500 model in April is a stretch to far. I suppose my next question would be around the price I should expect to pay for the 300 model and where is the best place to purchase.

Any advice welcome:wave:

Hi Macker,

You can get the 300 from HiFi Components (http://www.hificomponents.de/dyndata/Versand_eng/features/50023356.html) in Munich for €1677 plus p&p.
