I am thinking of buying sony DAV-S550 and Techtronics's price is very much lower than everyone else at £294.98 . I never used them and wanted to know whether anyone used them in the past and what was their service like?. Thankyou

I had an HORRENDOUS time with their dire customer services. Essentially I made an order, then had to cancel it. I did so within one hour. They cancelled the order all right, but took the money any way. It took well over a month for them to be bothered to give me my money back.

Avoid, avoid, avoid. Go a google groups search on Techtronics, and a search on this forum for some more interesting tales.

Loads of threads about them, have a look and see what you think. I know what I would do.

I bought my current DVD player from them, before I started to read horror stories about them.

My DVD player went faulty after 1 week, fortunately I am in the position to be able to drive to thier shop. They fixed it whilst I waited so no complaints and it has been fine now for 2 years.

Couple of things though:

1. They said it was RCE compatible, its not.
2. They supplied a German manual. I called them and they said they would post me the English version, it never turned up.
3. They said it was VCD and SVCD compatible, its not.

I used there Live Chat service and pretended to be a possible customer. I asked if my Player was VCD and SVCD compatible and the muppet who was typing back said "Yeah sure" I then wrote back saying "Well I purchased this player from you 3 weeks ago and it definately wont play VCD" He didnt reply.

Not that it bothers me in the slightest, I just had a the though of copy a few home video's onto VCD.

I wouldnt purchase from Techtronics again. Generaly you can get better deals through the links on these forums.

After reading many posts about them on here other places, I'd pay a bit more and use a company that didn't have such a terrible reputation for after sales service.

Were they CDRs though (home movies?) Just because its VCDcompatible doesn't mean its CDR compatible :)

I bought my multi-region Panasonic A360 from them three years ago. They were fine except that they input the wrong colour for my player. I emailed them before it was despatched and they rectified the problem. Even though I've had no problems with them I wouldn't use Techtronics again because of all the horror stories I've read about them.

So does anyone know a good, reliable supplier of multi-region DVD Players who offers good customer service at reasonable prices?

I bought from them many years back now and no problems. Still got the modified Sony 325 I got from them and it's never had a problem with a single disc out of 200+, including RCEs. Still plays fine and I'd rather keep that than get another player with doubts about compatibility.

Customer service seemed fine, but then I had no real call to deal with them.

In recent years though I've got the impression that they're not the cheapest.

I got my DAV 770 from Richer Sounds after hearing dodgy things about Techtronics and am well happy with it, have yet to find a multi region disc that it won't play. They have the DAV 550 multi region for £299.95 and you might even get them to price match if the £5 bothers you. And you can save the postage by dropping by your locak store to pick one up

My Sony325 was modded by them a while back and it's been perfect since. I love the way I can skip the FBI warnings. Mwahahaha.

No complaints from me.

I have used them in the past with no problems, but recently bought my upgraded Pioneer 656 from www.multiregionmagic.co.uk

Ordered the player by phone, delivered to my home in 2 days.

Can't comment on after sales service, as Ive used Pioneer DVD players since 1998, and never had a fault. On my third one now.
