Isn't the R1 SE while light on extras for a true SE decent? It has French 5.1 and English subtitles so should be fine for me.

Going by the cover it looks like a Paramount DVD.

Just thought I'd let everyone know that there are now pirate versions of LE (mostly R3K) boxsets available in China now. These are near pefect replicas, most popular being the Harry Potter stuff but also the BoB millitary pack for under £15 which includes all the bits and BoB's ( :D ). Be warned.

It's not mate, as there's no 'Add to cart' button on the right hand side - it's saying you can get it on Amazon marketplace (from a private seller) I believe.

The name of the rose is a funny film by all rights it should mediocre at best but the medieval setting and sean connery makes this average mystery thriller a winner ... a bit like Highlander i.e. ordinary action movie with a twist bought to life by Sean Connery.

Usually order from Yesasia so can use my Paypal but the 2 titles I was going to order (Big Swindle + Sil Mi Do) cost more at YA then those 2 + Name of the Rose at KoreanDVDs. Ok, with p&p it's about $5.00 more but that is for 1 extra title.

My order came to $23.73. So I take it I wont get any custom problems as that's under £18... I think.

I wonder what the case is made from? It looks a lot like the 'Dances with Wolves' one but I can't tell.

Is the nudity in the film censored in the Korean edition?

16-year-old Slater, in only his second film, has a deliciously erotic nude scene with a young woman

Ono
26-06-2004, 08:51
It is not really an explicit scene - just erotic so I can't see it being censored.

... and the 16yr old Slater must have definitely had a boner when shooting that scene!!

Anyone know any further details about the Star Trek release? The Digital Bit's (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/#mytwocents) have put 'some' info up (obviously, you'll have to visit the original news story for the link and pics) :Also, a number of Bits readers have learned that the entire Star Trek: The Original Series (all three season sets) will be released in Japan in a special display case that also includes a tricorder replica that doubles as a radio. The set will street on 12/10 with a 94,200 Yen price tag (nearly $900 U.S.). Here's a link to the Amazon Japan page for the release. And here's a look at the package with and without its plastic covering. Keep in mind that the complete series will be released in the U.S. as well on 12/3, but without the case and tricorder.
And in other news .....
Yesasia have got an LE of Takeshi Miike's latest here (http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/pid-1003447128/pname-Zebraman-Premium-BOX/code-j/version-all/section-videos/). :)

Anyone know the likelihood of this Akira DTS Jpn R2 having English subs?

My guess is that the first disc will have:

Subtitles:
English
Japanese

Audio Options:
English DTS 5.1
Japanese DTS 5.1
English Dolby Digital 5.1
Japanese Dolby Digital 5.1

All supplements will, of course, be unsubtitled.
Complete speculation at this time, since the details aren't announced yet, and I'm not sure if they can fit all of those audio tracks on one disc.

Note: At the moment, the page only lists:

Japanese DTS 5.1
Japanese Dolby Digital 5.1
and no subtitles

What do you think?

charlie angel

Righto then. Since the Limited Edition is simply a repackaging of above said item, then I suppose that you're out of luck for those "extra features" that you need.

I don't think they made a lot of copies of the Korean Bebop lunch box tin.
I pre-ordered it, and had it cancelled on me in the end.
And I ordered it again (at a slightly higher price), only to have it cancelled yet again.
If you really, really want it, I think your best options would be to ask someone in South Korea to look for it (I've been lucky a couple of times asking Yeon of YeonDVD about availability of deleted items, with she coming back to me after a while with very good offers, considering the items had reached collector's status; Hardly any markup from original price), or ebay or similar.

Picture of contents here (http://www.dvdtitle.co.kr/image/specialimg/19521.jpg).
Order it here (http://www.koreandvds.com/dvddetail.html?id=19521).

The cerebral half of Quentin Tarantino's two part revenge epic, the breathtaking Kill Bill Vol. 2 follows "The Bride" (Uma Thurman) on her quest for the blood of the partners who betrayed her. Having checked O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu) and Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox) off her death list, Budd (Michael Madsen) and Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah) are next in line before her showdown with the calmly psychotic Bill (a brilliant David Carradine).

While Kill Bill Vol. 1 was a nonstop chop-socky extravaganza, Tarantino injects wide open spaces and other western influences into Vol. 2 to create a cocktail that is just as much Serge Leone as it is Shaw Brothers. Which is not to say that there isn't plenty of violence for those who crave it. If anything, it's even more extreme in this installment, thanks to the simmering psychological dynamics that slowly emerge. And perhaps the most welcome part of this film is Tarantino's trademark dialogue. While fans of "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction" may have been let down by the lack of loopy exchanges in Vol. 1, Vol. 2 dishes them up in spades, ensuring Kill Bill's place in the rapidly growing list of Tarantino film masterpieces.

In addition to the feature film, this extremely limited Japan-only Premium Box includes a reversible jacket featuring two characters from the movie (first pressing only), making-of featurette, unreleased scenes, footage from the premier party, trailers, a cool Kung Fu t-shirt, Pai Mei keyholder, "Love Bride" Be@rbrick, 24 page all-color booklet, and special memorial cards (complete set of 10).

Amazon.co.jp don't list it yet. I ordered the first box from them for about £36. HMV.co.jp have it and I've just put in my order. Worked out at £48.

As I posted on DVDTalk, the Japanese online store prices on Premium Box Set are:

Amazon Japan (http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002LHWGM) - 6,080 yen (it looks as though Amazon may now remove the tax from foreign orders as this shows at 6,384 yen on the item's page, but 6,080 in my order - so, this is a done deal)

HMV - 7,182 yen

CDJapan - 9,500 yen (this is a strange pricing as the actual pre-discount retail on this at the other two stores is 7,980 yen).

Don't know if I can post this here or if it should be posted in the Suppliers thread...sorry if I'm wrong.

I managed to order an Alien Head from Amazon Japan this week (they seemed to have obtained some more copies). I selected the cheapest shipping option hoping they would upgrade to DHL or another courier.

In my account I can see the item is shipped, but there's no indication if they upgraded. Just received the e-mail, but it seems to be all garbled (not even Japanese symbols as far as I can see). Is there a way for me to check if they upgraded the shipping and maybe see a tracking number somewhere? Is a standard way of things that Amazon automatically upgrades these kind of orders?

Thanks,

You can set up your Amazon.co.jp account to show order details, including all shipping information, in English.
When you press the Account button top right, on the next page the very first button on the left allows you to see ordering/account details in English, and a bit further down there's a button 'Set your ordering language preference'.
Emails will still be in Japanese (but you can ask at english@amazon.co.jp if you need information).

Watched the film last night and whilst it initially seems full of patriotic single-sighted macho-ism it pulls a full about-face into treachery and betrayal and has a Hell of an emotional punch in the end.

Excellent film, and a gorgeous set to go with it - highly recommended.

Oh well. It look a lot like the Korean 'Dances with Wolves' leather case. So is it just a slip case and does it have the bit of string which goes around the case?

Korean DVDs are doing some good offers if you don't have the Indy boxset

http://www.koreandvds.com/search_result.html?msearch=titleorg&stitle=49er

You could get the Indy boxset (with medallion!!11) + a variety of stuff (e.g. 3 disc Hero, 4-disc Dances with Wolves, 3-Disc Black Hawk Down etc.), for $49 US and according to the site there is no customs. Seems like a good deal to me.

Couldn't find an affliate link though :(

I went for the Indy set & Hero Ultimate edit.

got an email from them today though saying Hero is now OOP and they cannot supply it so have refunded me:(

I've ended up getting the indy set for $25 +p&p - not bad!!

Just had an email back from ********* who are also stocking the set. Both Films are single disc. Gremlins is the special edition, whilst Gremlins 2 is the standard edition. The figure has removable spikes on it's back and display stand. It measures just over 9cm (3.5 inches) Not much bigger than a bearbrick! I just wonder if they've got the size right it looks a little bigger on the photo.

Received my 'Big Fish' set today too. A great little set, but I'm not sure what everyone means when they say the packaging is back to front?!?

Although some bloody Korean stuck my film cell on the wrong way, so that you cant see through it and on the back there's a square hole backed with card!!! I've just spend the last half hour carefully tearing it apart and glueing it the right way up!

Love Burton's sketches though - they remind me of the Nightmare Before Christmas!

Are you sure that Gremlins 2 is the standard edition? I checked Rewind to see what the best version was of Gremlins 1 & 2 and they seem to have the same extras as this set.

FROM REWIND:

Gremlins:
Audio commentary with director Joe Dante, producer Mike Finnell, and Gremlins creator/special make-up effects artist Chris Walas
Audio commentary with director Joe Dante, and actors Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, Dick Miller and Howie Mandel
8 deleted scenes (with optional audio commentary by the director, producer and actors)
"Behind the scenes" -featurette (from 1983, 6:22 min)
Still gallery
"Behind the scenes" production notes
Cast and crew filmographies and biographies
Theatrical trailer

Gremlins 2:
Audio commentary with director Joe Dante, producer Mike Finnell, screenwriter Charlie Haas and actor Zach Galligan
Theatrical trailer
Gag reel (5:56 min)
"Behind the screams" -featurette (5:48 min)
25 deleted scenes (with optional commentary by director Joe Dante, producer Mike Finnell, screenwriter Charlie Haas and actor Zach Galligan)

The only bits that ********* don't list are the audio commentaries.

I was thinking about getting Gremlins the other week and if this set has the best discs, then I'll probaly get it.

If the forum was called international dvd forum then yes this thread would belong there but as its called world cinema it doesn't. Over the many pages I don't think even 5% of the posts would relate to world cinema.

I really don't understand your point to be honest.

It was originally in the modern forum. I don't really see why it was moved.

But as I usually access it from my subscribed threads I hadn't even noticed that the thread had been moved to world cinema.

It is a difficult one bacause these are 'world/ foreign' dvds but, on the most part they concern western movies.

Having said that this thread always seems to be at the top of the world cinema forum so i suspect if it was moved this forum would lose its appeal somewhat.

Personally i've subscribed to this thread so the change hasn't been as noticeable.

The discs are sealed and I don't want to open them because hopefully they're gonna be returned. The back of the discs are all in Japanese so I've no idea what the extras are. There's a couple of pictures of the menus screens on the back and unfortunately they're also in Japanese, so it's very difficult to say. Gremlins does say special edtion on the front. The New Batch appears to be a standard release, however there are a number of extras listed. The figure looks quite cool. Very detailed, but only measures approximately 3.5 inches. There's some removeable spikes and a stand which will add some height making it a little bigger. The box is just over 9 x 5.5 inches and has a plastic bubble atached on the front with the figure inside. The discs can be easily taken out and come in standard Amaray cases. The unfortunate thing is if you want to remove the figure from the box there's no easy way of getting it out other than causing damage to the box!

Hope this helps!

Yea, X-Men UE is the same as X-Men 1.5 -- Good thing they ditched the silly "1.5" naming strategy.
