A bit of a long shot this one i know, but does anyone know if the Spanish release of Perdita Durango is uncut? I know there is an uncut German release (tho i haven't seen it anywhere), but according to Dvdgo, the Spanish one has English 5.1.
Cheers in advance.:)

OK cheers mate. Saved me a few quid.:)
I've got the German disk. It's not at all bad, although the extras are a bit thin. Nice packaging, too.

I thought I read the German release was cut too. Just a lot less than the spanish. I thought the blow job scene was longer after he kidnapped the girl. Can't remember for sure. I've got the German release but not the Spanish one.
As far as I know, the only thing missing (In all versions) are some of the hardcore anime sequences.

The R4 isn't uncut either, though it does contain more than the UK cut. It's missing about 6 minutes compared to the full Spanish version.

The english release is only 96 mins but the uncut is 136mins. There must be some mistake here?
Are you sure it doesn't mean 1h 36m? AFAIK, the UK is only missing parts of a scene of sexual assault and some flashes of hardcore anime.

Thread revival ... Does anyone know if the new UK release going to be the full directors cut? I've checked the BBFC and if my calculations are correct (and they may well not be) the proposed running time (with 4% PAL speedup) would suggest it is significantly longer than even the UK theatrical release.
Anyone?

It could be a NTSC-to-PAL standards conversion, in which case its running time will be the same (more or less) as the cinema release.

I doubt it. Some of the sexual violence in this will deffo be cut.

Marc Morris from Anchor Bay has said over at their forums that he believes it to be a port of the German release, which I believe is totally uncut.

I like it. Quite a bit actually. I have the German release and the Director's Cut adds quite a bit. But then I'm a fan of the books so ...

I think the German version was re-released without the CD in Austria as I piked up a copy in Vienna 2 years ago. It is pity none of his other films had DVD releases here. Day of the Beast is fantastic (the Spanish DVD is cheap with Englsih subtitles) but I would love to see some of the later stuff in the shops.

Is Accion Mutante available anywhere?
There is a 2 disc special edition in Spain but it has no Englsh subs unfortuantely. I beleive there was US version but it is OOP.

Not complaining. Just curious. How does Perdita Durango belong in the World Cinema forum if a movie like 'The Machinist', Cronenberg's 'Spider' or 'The Jacket' doesn't?
Just wondering is all.
Thanks

Very curious to see this film. Is it much like Lost Highway or Wild at Heart, or does the fact that Lynch is not directing or co-writing mean that it's a completely different beast?
kerbcrawler

Not so different to Wild Art Heart but that probably has more to do with the Barry Gifford source.
Lacks the extremes of twee and ferociousness found in Lynch although it is really quite nasty at times and, like Lynch, that nastiness often has a jarring comical counterpoint to which the viewer can be left wondering if it's OK to be laughing at this.

p.s. has anyone seen this cut yet? if so would you confirm the running time etc? i'm anxious to know how 'uncut' this version is. specifically I'm wondering if it is the same as the German version I have or maybe even longer. Thanks in advance

Sorry for the resurrection but can anyone advise on how this compares to the old German uncut version? Is it as complete? - more so? - less so?
Does it have english subs for all of it?
I'm back in blighty next week and am looking to upgrade.
Thanks

Another resurrection for this thread...I see that Perdita Durango is out again, this time under the pitiful yank title of Dance With The Devil. Anyone know if this release is anamorphic? Its available dirt cheap at sendit.com:

...but its no good to me if the film's non-anamorphic. Anyone know?

Don't know I'm afraid. What are the chances it will be uncut?

Wow, can't believe I actually posted in this thread five years ago. I had the German release and ended up getting the Spanish one too. German was anamorphic with 2.0 audio. Spanish was non-anamorphic (but cheap) and had 5.1 audio. The cut was the same as far as I could tell. 125 minute running tiem for both. I see the sendit.com lists the UK version as 126 minutes. Probably the same cut. No idea if it's anamorphic, I would hope so in 2008. The R1 US dvd was eight minutes shorter.

Must be longer than the 125 min cut taking PAL speedup into account:shrug:

I caught up with this recently for the first time since it was released. I thought it was okay at the time and it is fun in places, especially Bardem and his mentalist haircut. It doesn't half drag on, though, and it hardly has any plot to speak of in the first place.
Thinking about the rum experience it's had at the hands of distributors/censors, it amazes me, because outside of the rape scene (which is fairly mild), there's very little in the way of hardcore violence/sex and such. Watching Accion Mutante again the other month I was disappointed by how sloppy and boring that gets in the second half, too, and how much Iglesia wastes the premise. It's great fun in the first half, mind.
I'm a huge fan of Álex de la Iglesia, and own most of his films (. However, I have yet to see his comedies.. Crimen ferpecto (Perfect Crime) and Muertos de risa (Dying of laughter). They're on the list to catch, just not got round to it yet..
Anyone recommend them?
mrwilson
16-06-2008, 00:09
I'd recommend both. Ferpect Crime was cute. Dying of Laughter was better. I think you'll enjoy both. The only Ales de la Iglesia I didn't really care for was 800 Balas.
