I need to find out a reasonably cheap multi-region player that's easily available in the US and ready to plug&play (no mods necessary). Friend of mine wants to get one, but is clueless and, in fact, netless.
Any suggestions? Guess around 150-200 bucks should do the trick, no?

thanks a bunch!

I thought the Malata machine was best, at least for playing PAL discs easily. Isn't there an Apex machine that does M/R and is cheap too?

Sampo DVE612(N) (the (N) is mega-important) if you can still find one - excellent model, very simple region hack (tap in a few numbers on the remote) - see here (http://www.area450.com/thesampozone/quickguide/dve612n.htm) for a guide :)

See this (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=196017) thread. As said above the Malata is the best and is fully region free and does PAL --> NTSC conversion which is very important.

Probably not worth having two threads open on the same subject so I'm going to close this one.
