Feel sorry for the inhabitants of Seville having to put up with thousands of invading alcoholics spoiling their city.

Porto 2-1 Celtic I reckon.

Seriously though Porto are a damn site better than Boavista. Christ their reserves are better than Boavista but that's really not saying much. They have some qulaity players including Deco who's simply awesome and for that reason I think they'll be too strong for Celtic.

3-1 to Porto (unless there are a lot of injies between now and the Final which is ages away! :D)

Same here mate, we've got tickets as well. Reckon the first team to score will win it. It'll be a close fought match but I'm hoping Celtic will shade it 1-0 or 2-1.

If we win it will be asolutely monumentous. It'll be an occasion to remember and look back on when you're 60 or whatever.

It is a real pity that Hartson is out (sip-disc in his back). He scored the crucial goal in Spain against Celta Vigo to take Celtic through on goal difference and who can forget that wonderous strike against Liverpool at Anfield. He would have caused real problems for Porto.

Probable team for Wednesday (3-5-2):

Douglas
Mjallby Balde Valgareen
Thompson Lennon Lambert Petrov Agathe
Sutton Larsson

with Maloney as a fantastic sub if it starts to go wrong.

I am gutted for Hartson :(

stevie c
18-05-2003, 10:52
Think we'd be better going for a 4-4-2 to begin with - remember how Porto murdered us in the away leg last season in the CL. Mind you this is a one-off game, on a neutral ground. We also beat the at Celtic Park - but it wasn't exactly an easy won victory either!

Anyway, I think the team for Wednesday should probably look something like this -

_______________ Larsson Sutton

______ Thompson Lennon Lambert Agathe

______ Valgaeren Mjallby Balde MacNamara

__________________ Douglas

Subs, should anything go wrong -

Hedman, Laursen, Petrov, Guppy, Smith, Maloney, Fernandez.

BTW - jayok, when do you head over? I leave on Tuesday night - no match ticket, but who cares - I'm just gonna go for the party - win or lose! Hopefully a Win  , but I'll be content even if we lose - just as long as we don't get humped! :(

The players have been absolutely magnificent for just getting us there! :notworthy

Anyone else from the Forums going along? Have we arranged a forum meet-up - seeing as all the others usually fail. This would be quite an unusual one would it not - seeing as it would be in Seville. :D

Hartson is a huge loss - hope his teammates can at least cheer him up by bringing the trophy home!

Hail Hail!

Let's look at Celtic's European run:

Vs Boavista - by common consent the worst European semi of all time, football fans all over Europe question the need for the Uefa cup

Vs Liverpool, Liverpool played well first leg, and for the first 20 minutes of the second and then reverted to type, the worst Liverpool team for 40 years (c) Ian St John

Vs Celta Vigo. Probably Celtic's best result despite being outplayed home and away.

Vs Stuttgart. Stuttgart 2nd in the Budesliga. In any other year this would be impressive, except German sides have been crap in europe this year (step forward Bayern), Stuttgart played the first leg with 10 men for an hour and had their central defense missing in the second leg and they still nearly went through. Celtic on away goals.

Nothing can disguise the fact that Celtic are Leicester City with Larsson. If the footballing gods are watching on Wednesday there can be only one winner.

Buena Suerte Porto!

For me Rangers football club stand for football, but unfotunatly some of their servents and supporters have had other agendas.
It was once unofficial club policy that catholic's should not play for Rangers, that went out the window with david Murray.
Factor in the whole orange lodge nonsense/anti republican(not Irish republicanism) and you can see how some people could find this abhorrent.

One other point I would like to make is forum members who are rangers fans have been the ones who have brought the language
of west coast secterianism to the forums and have been warned by the mods. Some may call it banter but it's not it's hatred.

Celtic have an equal part to play in this hatred It would be stupid to think that there is'nt a hatered of rangers fans and a support for violent Irish republicanism within the celtic support
My own exprience is that I've met more more Rangers fans who are football fans who love rangers and have no animosity to celtic or their fans or catholics in general.

I don't know where to start with this drivel.

Are you talking about all Rangers supporters? 54.9976% perhaps? I would never be as daft as to say that we do not have an unsavoury element to our support (as do all clubs if truth be told) - apart from, of course, Celtic fans who like to portray themselves as socially responsible, cuddly and kind to small animals and children. Paragons of virtue.

I could mention to tacit support they give to the apartheid education system in this country and their songs in support of a fascist terrorist organisation responsible for murdering and maiming men, women and children throughout the British Isles. I could mention the day Celtic fans threw bananas at Mark Walters. But I wouldn't.

It might spoil the myth of those lovable Oirish rogues!

Well I've supported Rangers for over thirty years and been proud to cheer on the guys who pull on the blue shirts whether they be Black, Catholic, Jewish or whatever, like the majority of Rangers fans.

The club hasn't done enough to get rid the unsavoury element, but to suggest the club is at the heart of some kind of institutionalised sectarianism (which is what Celtic fans are intimating at with the conspiracy theories & comments like Jayok's) is utter nonsense. Get the chips off your shoulders!

From a Rangers perspective (and to be truthful that's all I care about) it fills me with hope that such a one-dimensional football team such as Celtic can reach a european final. We were close against Feynoord last year, hopefully we will have another chance.

That may sound like sour grapes, but I hope Celtic lose tomorrow because I don't want to reminded about it for the next 30 years!

Porto to win easily.
It's funny how it's a great loss to the side that their fat thug of a centerforward is out. Celtic are better off without him. Hartson is a good English Div1 player at best.
I'm not anti-Celtic or anti-scots, so don't start with that, but I just can't see them winning tonight. In fact, watching the European games, Champions league and UEFA, I've found myself cheering on Celtic, rather than teams like ManU and Arsenal.

Great performance from the Celts.

Porto were the better team, but their diving was disgusting and the ref gave virtually every decision their way.

Celtic have proven that they can cope with any team in Europe and should be very proud of themselves and their fans.

Well done.

For the record, are FC Basle & Caley Thistle ranked fourth & fifth ?

Porto weren't a disgrace, Deco & Capucho were a delight to watch. Martin O'Neill should watch the video of the game and take a leaf out their book and get his team playing proper football rather than just hoof it forward. Maybe Porto had been watching Chris Sutton give one of his recent masterclasses in cheating, diving etc..

The best team won fair & square.

As a Rangers fan, I was supporting Celtic tonight as they were a Scottish team in the final of a European competition. Thought Celtic played pretty well in the heat and only some rash tackles stopped them from at least a penalty shoot out.

Porto were a bit OTT at times, but you have to expect that from European games.

O'Neill made a good point that you have to know what it is like to lose before you can appreciate a win. They have every chance of progressing to the second group stage in the Champions League next season.

On the plus side, the Celtic players must be well knackered after the game, gives Rangers an even better chance on Sunday!

No, they just got away with what every other European club do. After Bobo got sent off (quite fairly I think you'll agree) the Hoops were playing for penalties. Porto took the initiative & when the scored, they were happy to settle for that.

Roles reversed would Celtic have played it any different? Doubt it

The only media attention Celtic should be getting is that they are one step closer to another trophyless season.

It's time folk woke up to the fact that MON is leading CFC and the support on a merry-go-round... keep telling the fans and the team they are magic, marvelous, whatever and maybe they'll forget at the end of the day there's a strong chance the much derided Dick Advocaat will have had a better trophy record after three years.

Just to let you know despite losing we are all having a great time. The Porto players may have been a disgrace, however their fans are a credit to their country.

I cannot believe the jealousy of some of the so called Rangers fans. We might of lost but what a time we have had. We might not get an experience like it again. However I l guarantee we will still be talking about how we told our partners that we were just going out for a loaf of bread and somehow ended up in Seville.

Their run in the UEFA cup this year HAS been marvelous and only blinkered Gers fans refuse to acknowledge it. Its a shame you might gain more respect by biting the buillet and applauding, what in this day is a great achievement. Hopefully both Celtic and Rangers can go on a similar run next year both teams have nothing to fear.

Well i heard a good point made on radio 5 this morning, if celtic managed to beat Blackburn, Liverpool, Celta, Stutgart, and took Porto to the wire while on scottish tv money, what could they do with the daft money that Englich clubs get. He suggested the only Man U would be able to compete. While i think he was a little bit carried away, I have no doubt that both sides of the old firm would be top four teams within three seasons.

I don't have much of a problem with it providing Rangers and Celtic start at the bottom like any other team would have to. It's not fair that they should be allowed to leap-frog teams who’ve had to work to get where they are.

I’m a United fan so it would have very little effect on us but that’s not the issue. :p
