great match. was going out today but the lass and i were a wee bit tired so stayed in.

good team performance, great penalty and well worth a point.

truth to tell, thought it was going to be 4 or 5 nil to be fair, but we raised our game and the result we badly neaded.

definately a penalty on the terry bit. :)

Nobody has mentioned the perfectly legal goal that Chelsea had dissallowed.

Nobody has mentioned the perfectly legal goal that Chelsea had dissallowed.
I think that is wasn't a goal, if you look at the player who is in an offside position, can we say that he was or wasn't obscuring the goalkeepers view. I feel he was therefore interfering, therefore offside.

I feel he was therefore interfering, therefore offside.

That was my thinking when seeing the replay, Drogba wasn't offside but the other player was probably in the goalkeepers eye line and therefore 'interfering with play'.

David Moyes.......you're havin' a laugh

A bit harsh.

We've let in 6 in 2 home games of which 5 have been defensive errors...the blame lies with the players...

...unless you blame Moyes for not getting a striker to play alongside Beattie in the Summer :suspect: :suspect: :suspect:

KiLeAk
17-12-2005, 20:35
I blame Moyes for not telling us why Per is worse than David Weir!?!

Surely its time to start him? With Joey goin' in Jan for the African Nations Cup, Per needs to feel comfortable in the team.

2 defeats @ home in 3 days is not good news and with Xmas coming we need to start getting points on the board. Pompey will start a mini-revival now, but at least Sunderland & Birmingham seem to be worse off than us!

Whiting
17-12-2005, 20:41
I blame Moyes for not telling us why Per is worse than David Weir!?!

Moyes comments at the AGM re:Koldrup weren't too encouraging were they ? I do agree that a £5M defender should be able to stroll into the team, no question.

Weir was at fault again today to go with his two rickets on Wednesday ; if Koldrup can't make the team after that, then he must be gash.

Sky reported that Stubbs was at the game...wonder if those rumours are true about him coming back ? (hope not, time to move on/never go back/etc etc)

Whiting
17-12-2005, 20:56
Moyes' comments from November's AGM concerning Kroldrup etc are below. The bit in bold is worrying ; it's not a reference to injury ; more suitability for the Premiership.

The bit about Weir has sadly been overshadowed by the last two games. I still think it's a glitch (I'm not sure Weir has confidence in Valente and is trying to do too much) but perhaps he could do with the rest...

He said: “Joseph Yobo will need to go away for the African Nations Cup in January. But if they play as bad as they played last week again [WBA away] on Sunday we will see him sooner than expected.

“Only today I was telling Per he is looking much more like it. There were things we felt we needed to work on him with but he is looking much better and you will see him at some point.”

Moyes was also questioned on the subject of his captain with suggestions that Kroldrup should replace him alongside Yobo in the centre of defence.

But he immediately leapt to the defence of David Weir, pointing out that so far this season he has been one of his team’s most consistent performers.

He added: “Our defensive record is not brilliant but we are the 12th best in the Premier League after Saturday. That part of the team is not doing too bad.

“David Weir had an outstanding season last year in the main playing alongside Alan Stubbs. One of the main reasons we played 4-1-4-1 was the lack of pace at the back but you cannot push up the park if you have got people running behind you.

“We tried to start the season with the same formation but because of the lack of goals we have tried to go back to playing two up front.

KiLeAk

Sky reported that Stubbs was at the game...wonder if those rumours are true about him coming back ? (hope not, time to move on/never go back/etc etc)

No never, look at Kendall (3rd), Pistone (possibly Gravesen?).

And Stubbs is way past his best!

Per cannot be that bad, Udinese fans' were peeved when they lost him and Italian football is very good, defensively. Yes, maybe he cannot keep up with the pace of the Premiership, but neither can Weir! Something needs to happen.

Thankfully, I was in the toilet when the first went in and also when the 3rd and 4th went in. I went back to my seat and grabbed my old man and left early for the first time in my life.

Well, the Bolton 4-0 was my first miss in years and, again, I missed today with a bad cold. Paul Walsh called it a good goal for the disallowed one ; he certainly didn't see what was wrong with it.

Me missus went to the match and she said there was a deffo foul on Hibbo for a pen.....but she's a girl and quite clearly confused by these sort of things

It could all depend on the new Pompey signings - presumably, they'll be out to impress but they are short of match fitness so who knows.

Portsmouth will be difficult to beat at home under Redknapp....so I reckon we'll get turned over...probably quite comfortably too :|

i think he done ok, not brilliant but worked his socks of most of the time for us.

He was fantastic for us up to the arrival of Beattie and then the toys seemed to go out of the pram. Asked to play wing ? Not interested. On as a sub ? Not interested.

When he arrived, I couldn't understand how (a) little he cost for the return and (b) why he'd had so many clubs throughout his career. (a) still stands but (b) is no longer a surprise. He's been nothing short of shocking this season and, tbh, I'd have taken what we paid for him, if it was offered, so £2 - £2.5M is good business.

Still, he was pivotal in the 4th place finish and his contribution to that season can't be underestimated ; I hope (and I think) the crowd will remember that when he comes back to Goodison with Charlton.

18-01-2006, 09:41
agreed - if you watch last seasons DVD review, the games before Christmas Bent was on fire. Afterwards, shocking to see the difference.

Hopefully this Sat is third time lucky for me watching Arsenal - I went to the last two at Highbury. At least our 7-0 loss was after the season had finished and not like boro, during it!

Whiting
20-01-2006, 18:33
I don't know why people are getting worked up over this. Kroldrup's gone ; for whatever reason it didn't work out, but it's better to cut losses sooner rather than later from both the club and the player's point of view. Good luck to him.

One out, so one in. Stubbs will only be here til the season's end and is primarily for cover to Weir and Ferrari until Yobo returns. It's a short term solution and better that than spunking a load of cash on some buffoon right now.

Anyway, Weir's now got someone he can keep up with in training

Great first 25 mins today. We should have killed the game off in that period. Osman was running the show with good link up play with Arteta. Citeh came into it more in the 2nd half, applied more pressure and had 2 or 3 very good chances and were probably unfortunate not to get a point in all honesty...but we like our 1-0 wins :)

Just back from the match and I'm buzzing. Nothing better than winning when you feel the odds and the officials are against you. A complete team performance today. Everyone worked so, so hard after the sending off and I'm just made up that they got the just rewards of the 3 points.

The officials were the worst I've seen in a long, long time. The ref was hopeless. Woefully inconsistent ; the sending off might have been the only thing he got right, and as for the linesman on the Bullens Rd side, well he was the fattest official I've ever seen. It was a joke watching him trying to keep up with Bellamy's runs...and it's suppose to be a professional game ?

Moyes' gestures to the officials at half-time were funny though. I suspect an FA charge is on the cards.

Who needs 11 men ay! :)

The curse of manager of the month tried its best, it sent our keeper off, it disallowed 3 goals and caught us offside into double figures....but we beat it!

Shame Man City won as were back down to 11th now, and our goal difference is still shocking..BUT its a stark improvement from 2005!

fantastic game - I agree the ref was woeful. It looked like the linesmen were making the decisions for him.

I just wish Tim got the last chance goal when their goalie came up at the end and left his goal empty. He just scuffed it from the halfway line & missed but the place would have erupted had it gone in.

Played awful today, no creativity at all. Didn't do anything even with Liverpool down to 10 for alot of the game. We definitly missed Arteta today.

Ref was crap, gave stupid yellow cards and if Van Der Meyde foul was a red card so were a few others from Liverpool.

Other than the ref though, we didnt deserve anything out of the game, Alonso took control of the game and we just didnt seem up for it - our defence right up to our forwards. Wright needs to go as quickly as possible too. He makes far too many mistakes and he just can't make decisions.

I dunno, thought you had us on the rack in the first half. Before Gerrard got sent off you were first to everything.

Own goal was the sucker punch and I think Garcia killed it off. Funniest yellow card of the whole day was Dunc, he just couldn't resist giving Alonso a dig.

We had a small spell of us controlling the game and pushing forward, but we just didn't threaten, other than the goal, all our other shots were directly at Reina, can't really think of anywhere in the game when Reina had to make a good save.

His name is Johnson, god Andy Johnson,
he scores in every game coz all other teams are lame,
he's got no hair, but we don't care,
he' our number eight and we treat him like a mate

We have actually turned down a £4.5m bid from someone says our CEO.

He's worth at least £4m in most Wolves fans eyes. Dawson went for the same amount from Forest to Tottenham and Lescott was the better defender back then.

Personally I hope either you or Man City take him. Don't want Villa or Reading to have him.

I'm very happy with Andy/Andrew Johnson, a quick striker who knows where the goal is and works hard for the team, just what we need. If we can keep him and Beattie fit then we'll have a top strikeforce on our hands.

Slightly worried about the possibility of signing Huth though, he's always looked like a donkey when I've seen him play, no pace, lacking quality on the ball, and very immobile. Hope I'm wrong if we do sign him.

AJ will be great for you - this time next year you'll love him just like Palace fans do right now, and you'll be laughing at the rest of the Premiership who ignored him. I wish him all the best and hope he gets the trophies he deserves at Everton.

Looks like you're getting Lescott then. Having a medical today.

I really hope he plays first team football with you as he has the potential to be a very good Premiership defender. Pacy, excellent strength and timing in the challenge he seems to win the ball when he shouldn't by muscling people off the ball and nicking it off them, especially in a straight shoulder-shoulder battle.

I remember the Wolves home game against Crystal Palace at the start of last season. He marked Andy Johnson completely out of the game, having him in his pocket the entire time. When he's on form he's a fantastic defender to watch and you can't help but applaud him.

Really sorry to see him go, but it's for the good of his career and I don't think any Wolves fan will begrudge him that.

Most transfers are paid over time, why would any club go out and announce that they have £20m to spend when it would just lead to clubs over charging? Are you also annoyed at the other 15 teams in the Premiership who don't spend millions every season and claim to not have that much cash?

Anyway, it looks like Lescott will be signing this week then, although Moxey has been quite vocal about this all along. He's a bit annoying isn't he?
