View Full Version : Thickie requires a little knowledge !!!!
Hi, can anyone help me with a little problem? I`m trying to connect my recently purchased Home cinema kit together at long last (been getting bits for the last 18 months!!!!!). I have purchased some Profigold scart leads as everybody on here says that the ones you get given free are a load of pap. However I have just noticed that the leads that connect from the dvd player and video to the AV receiver are the freebie ones and look pretty pants. Is the correct name for these leads "Audio Leads" ? or are they known by another name ? And finally can anyone reccomend any good leads........ are Prowire 'Teflex' leads any good ???
Any help for a thickie like me would be greatly appriciated:nuts:
Are the "Audio leads" also known as Phono Interconnects or 2 RCA to 2 RCA??
Simple answer is both, some people call them either.

Depending on the equipment you have, the leads you need are either an optical digital interconnect (TOSLINK) or a Co-axial digital interconnect (effectively an RCA-RCA phono cable). This is to connect the DVD digital audio to the digital input on the amp. You can also connect the 2 phono-style sockets on the DVD to the equivalent inputs on the amp to give you analogue stereo. These are the Phono interconnects mentioned above.
You don't need to spend a great deal on the digital interconnects as there will be no signal loss or interference. If you plan on using you DVD as a CD player, or have a separate CD player, invest in a good quality pair of phono interconnects. (£30 as a minimum as a recommendation).
I haven't heard of 'Proflex' so can't comment. A search through this forum should turn up lots of good recommendations though.
Also take a look at what speaker cable you are using as this will make a difference.
:) Thanks for that I will now go and buy a couple of sets of Profigold 2 RCA to 2 RCA leads to connect my video and Digital box to my amp. Thanks very much for clearing this up for me.:notworthy
