C4 probably.
bC4, yes. Sort of looking forward to it, but judging by the adverts, it looks a little like Friends. But it probably wont be. The last season was okay.

Don’t worry about it. Rather have too many Frasier threads than too few or none at all :)
The series that began with them running away from the wedding I hated on first viewing, then grew to quite like it. Can't say that about the last series though, pretty dire. Hopefully this will improve, wish they'd just end it though. Just watched the end of a great ep on Paramount, just doesn't come close these days unfortunately.

Is there any chance in an early episode of this season, Martin might be driven into a homicidal rage and send Daphne's mother to swim with the fishes? Along with Daphne's brother, they have to be two of the most irritating characters ever :gag:

We can only hope so. FWIW I thought the normally excellent Brian Cox as Daphne’s father was ***** as well. What is it with Brits in US sitcoms? Why do the feel they need to SHOUT ALL THE TIME?!
I was really looking forward to this until I watched the repeat of the last episode of series 9 yesterday. I hope they don't have any of Daphne's family in this series.

Thought last nights eps were excellent.
The Brit stereotype thing is well annoying e.g. the last ep from the previous series had Daphne's parents meeting at a "soccer riot" and eating "boiled" meals. :oh-hum:
Now if I was to suggest that Yanks were fat, arrogant, ignorant and insular I would be wrong wouldn't I?* :|

That's pretty bad stereotyping..... what were the writers thinking? What the writers were probably thinking is what a lot of the Hollywood writers think - we are the only ethnic group that they are allowed to insult without being accused of racism. Saw an interview a few years back with some of the writers of "The Patriot" and the guy admitted that much of the atrocities were invented or greatly overexaggerated because the US needs a baddy and if they picked on anyone else they would be accused of racism.
Plus they know that all we will do is moan a bit, shrug our shoulders and get on with life :oh-hum:

Yeah, and someone from Manchester supporting United and not City - clearly they have no idea what it's really like here in England!
Was it just my hearing, or was Jane Leeves' accent a lot posher than in previous series? Maybe that is what getting a large pay rise does to you!

Thought the first ep was decent but the second was poor almost redeemed by a great pay-off at the end. It’s usually the sign of a show running out of ideas when character’s behave out of type ie the Roz/Frasier thing and last night with Frasier refusing to leave the garage. His show is the most important thing to him and there’s no way he’d miss it.
Daphne’s mother was as super-annoying as ever and as the series progresses I seem to be regarding Daphne herself in the same way. Nicely written moment with Martin and Daphne where she was carrying her stuff out although they do tend to overuse the talking at cross-purposes device, but still a touching scene.

For me, the worst bit of bad Brit acting on Frasier was Daphne a while ago referring to her backside as her "fanny"; if it was an in-joke for British viewers it failed miserably :oh-hum:

Damn - I missed all but the last 10 mins. :(
Could someone explain to me the bit about the Niles - Daphne - Roz threesome. I must have missed the start and the first I knew something was up was when they all started laughing about Roz wanting a sandwich
I'd like to know that as well.
Also I take it that as its CH4 it won't be repeated? :(
Daphne was giving Roz a neck massage while Niles was just getting some fruit for them to eat. But of course Niles has to have stupid posh sounding French names for things so Roz misunderstood and thought that Daphne and Niles wanted to have a threesome whith her. She seemed up for it at first as well. :norty: Which is why they were joking about it afterwards.

Norton’s show is so bad. Wonder how many people turn off half way through and miss Frasier afterwards?
Channel 4's famous incompetent and amateur scheduling. I have emailed them a number of times about the scheduling of some shows that should be more popular, but after getting the same, patronising response fed back I gave up - they obviously don't give a toss what the public think. Let us hope that more and more advertisers switch to Five and they get a bigger budget to get the shows we want and schedule them responsibly.
I was going to post this over in the DVD and Movie Forum but there's so little information available to discuss as yet. So I just thought I'd mention that The Digital Bits are reporting in their Rumour Mill that Frasier will finally make it to DVD this year. Can't wait...

Tonight's one sees Roz's 20-year old cousin coming to stay and hitting on the station owner Kenny. The write-up I read said that it is starting to stretch credibility now.
I am now coming round to thinking that the show is never going to recover from Daphne and Niles getting married :(
I'll still give it the benefit of the doubt and hope that it doesn't self-destruct
I take it back, some excellent one-liners:
Roz's cousin: "I am going to Vietnam. Amercians have never heard of it"
That cousin is so much in need of a good slap!
:shocker: I don't think giving her a slap was what Kenny had in mind

They’ve really got no idea what to do with Niles and Daphne now they’ve moved in together have they? Already back at Frasier’s flat cleaning for him. Pains me to say this but I’d rather it ended than begin to spiral downwards as it seems to be doing. While no means awful just yet (apart from Daphne’s repellant cock-er-nee family) it is fairly lame (no pun...) in comparison to 3 or 4 years ago.
Yes, I thought they might play Niles/Daphnes differently.
I had hoped the shine might have gone off his adoration once they married and moved in together (as it often does once a couple get down to the mundane things of life).
I think I wanted him to start seeing her faults and get a bit snobby, then they could separate, he could realise he's still in love and the whole Niles secretly loves Daphne thing could start all over again.
Sigh, if only.
It might still happen. Happy families is not usually conducive to comedy

It's not at all fair to say it's been 'axed'. It's basically been agreed by everyone (Paramount, NBC and the cast) that by the end of next season it will have come to the end of it's life (if it hasn't already).
Every show has to end at some point.

Frasier Friends crossover, interesting idea :p
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/2680921.stm
OK, this was written before the announcement that it is to end, but says that spiralling production costs (probably the huge fees being paid to the stars) and a dip in ratings caused this.
Sad news, I have always enjoyed this - one of the few shows from the US that proved the Yanks do get sarcasm ;) However, whilst last night's episode had its moments, as I have said before it has lost its way since Niles and Daphne got wed, and I think the writers have been struggling to find some underlying plot to the stories.

NBC ponied up $374 million in 2001 for a 3 year licensing deal which expires in 2004 and there have as yet been no talks about extending the run. At a $5 million + per episode cost it’s not hard to see why this flagging series may be put out to pasture.
On the upside it should give the writers and stars a shot in the arm to ensure the last season is memorable. Cue Lilith and other Cheers alumni no doubt along with the birth of Nile’s and Daphne’s child.

Did you not see last season? Leading characters shagging each other is such a bankrupt way of spicing things up and, in regards to Frasier and Roz, is a betrayal of their characters and frankly insulting to the audience that’s watched them for years.

It is also a classic "Jumping the Shark" moment of a show.
Veering OT a little - I actually saw the Happy Days episode where Fonzie jumps a shark, a few months ago on Paramount.
The episode had a strange sense of doom and foreboding to it whenever a character would exclaim that Fonzie is going to "Jump the Shark!"

Yes this also from the IMDB News:-
Although noting that "it seems hard to believe NBC would want to say goodbye to both Friends and Frasier in the same season," Daily Variety reported that both series are likely to depart following the 2003-04 season. The trade publication, citing insiders at both NBC and Paramount TV, which produces Frasier, said that it is apparent that there will be no negotiations to extend the Kelsey Grammer series past its current contract. The show, which costs NBC $5.2 million per episode, has taken a huge ratings dive this season, except during the November sweeps when, during a four-episode arc, Frasier's brother Niles underwent open-heart surgery.

Yep that's the big problem the TV exec's want to bleed it for every penny possible and the quality plummits.
We have seen it so many times Only Fools; Cheers; Simpsons; Frasier; Friends....
Which is why I say Qudos to John CLeese and only doing two seasons of Fawlty towers, even after twenty-five years they still make me laugh out loud.

It may be heresy to some but I’ll take 8 quality seasons of Frasier consisting of 20 odd episodes per season over 12 half hours of Fawlty Towers or The Office every time. Excellent though they are we all know FT backwards by now whereas the sheer number and largely consistent high quality of Frasier (and even Friends) ensures unlimited repeat potential.
So Frasier is losing it now - Imagine a 10 year run of Fawlty Towers with that kind of consistency and tell me you wouldn’t prefer to have 200 shows rather than just 12 of your fave Brit sit-coms.

Fraiser on Monday was pretty good - apart from the feud between the ugly kid and Daphne's mum. It was crap. Surely they could have stretched the main story out to half an hour? I know lots of episodes have secondary stories, but did they always seem this forced?

I have followed frasier since it started and I love this series. I was worried it would lose everything once Niles & Daphne get together properly. but since Niles always spent his time at Frasiers anyway.... it just works.
The thing I love is that they imply things have moved on. things have changed. but that's how the program started... (frasier moved from boston)... Hilarity at its best.

Tonight's ep was very good. A shame its a 2 parter but Niles was hilarious and the bedroom farce type comedy with Marty was top comedy as well!
Bit of a bombshell at the end though, at least we are lead to believe so.
I doubt they'll do anything drastic - like remove Niles from the euqation. It will probably just be a fake alarm, or something that can be cured by routine surgery.
Too early in the season to kill him off imo.

But that itself suggests that he will remain for the time being - i.e. not drop dead in next week's episode. Maybe the whole facing mortality thing will make Niles live life... hence comedy, as opposed to dying which would not be conducive to laughs as all.

AFAIK he doesn’t die. I think they’re just going for a bit of drama where the comedy is a little lacking. Bad idea I reckon.

I think this has always been what has made Frasier stand out from all the other sitcoms around. Right from the first episodes, The Good Son ptI & II, the comedy/pathos blend has always been balanced and believable. I have found as many 'really touching' moments in Frasier than in any other show I've watched, aswell as all the laughs.

I’m all for a bit of both but it just seems as though this latest drama is shoehorned in to bolster a fading show. The departure of writer Joe Keenan is more noticeable than ever I’m afraid.

Without a doubt he, Paul Kasey & David Angell were responsible for many of the classic frasier episodes and moments, particularly the verbal sniping of Frasier and Niles, but then imagine if he and Christopher Lloyd came back and were writing to the quality of their current horrendous flop 'Bram & Alice'.
About to start in a couple of minutes.
And it was rather good. Not hugely funny, and sometimes it was a bit over emotional, but I liked it. Interesting direction by Kelsey, too; I loved all those one take shots (or 'oners').
Tonight at 10.35pm
Don't Go Breaking My Heart. Series 10, episode 9
Final part of the 3 parter.
Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere but the first Season of Frasier will be released on May 20th as will the first season of Cheers.
Taken from DVD Review:
After ten successful years on Cheers, Kelsey Grammer struck out on his own in Frasier. The 1993-1994 season saw the Boston psychologist move back to his hometown of Seattle only to learn to deal with his family all over again.
The twenty-four episodes of the first season are included in their original fullscreen, and several extras including an audio commentary on the pilot episode by Peter Casey and David Lee, the featurettes "Behind The Couch: The Making Of Frasier" and "Frasier Crane's Apartment," and a trivia game.
Both sets will come to DVD on May 20th and will be priced at $49.95 each.
I'm reserving judgement until it actually is released. I have gotten my hopes up so many times in the past about a release of Frasier on DVD that I am very cautious now.... :(
The Digital Bits also reporting the DVD release here (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/#frasiercheers)
Hope you Frasier fans remembered to tune in on Monday ;)
This weeks 'Christmas' episode was really funny, and joy of joys, Daphne's mother wasn't in it. She is really peeing me off!
Looking forward to the DVD release of Season 1 too.

Absolutely. The scene where they were trying to remove the presents from under the tree reminded my of some of the farce of old, the Ski Lodge ep being one of my favourites.
Frasier Season 1 is up for pre-order at Amazon.com and DVD Box Office. Still waiting to see what sort of price Play come up with though.

For some resason, I'm findinf this season a bit "same old, same
old" This weeks especially.
The only highlight for me has been the bar-mitzvah episode with Noel. Classic !
The first half has been very funny on tonight's episode.
... the ending (what was behind the door) was predictable though.

Kinda lame that Daphne just ends up watching TV with Martin. It’s like the marriage never happened. To me those scenes were just fillers and seemed tacked on to provide a break between the Frasier/Niles scenes.....
what happened after the break, just after they see the Gold Door? started to watch a video i recorded last night and forgot about Frasier
They were chatting to Ros and she told them that it was idiotic pining after the gold door as there might be another door later, and that it was endless. They didn't agree with her. It turned out that she knew the senator .... she had a fling with him in the past and had used CPR to revive him when he'd collapsed so he owed her a favour.
She got Frasier and Niles into the Gold section and they were treated and then taken to a calming room to rest after their treatment. They waxed lyrical about how amazing it was. Niles couldn't walk as he was wrapped up and hence could only shuffle.
Suddenly Frasier spotted a hidden platinum/silver coloured door. Niles wanted to go through but Frasier told him that Ros had been right and that they should be happy in the heaven that they had found.
Niles refused to accept this but as he could only shuffle Frasier said that he'd have a look. As he went towards the door a worker came into the room to do something and said that they weren't allowed through the door.
Of course once the guy had left this meant that both Frasier and Niles had to go through the door. As Niles couldn't walk properly Frasier carried him out of the door....
.... they were bathed in a golden light and they started going on about how amazingly warm it was and that it must be a fantastic solarium.
Then they realised that they had exited the spa and were in an alley. The door had closed behind them and there they were - Frasier in a robe and facepack, Niles wrapped in bandages and another facepack.
They suddenly realised that a swarm of bees were heading towards them attracted by the honey on their facepacks.... Frasier ran and Niles shuffled after him (sort of like a penguin).
 thanks 8-], sounds good, although i could see the being outside thing coming :D

A fine episode. Even Daphne was funny
I particularly loved the slanging match which led to the harrassment claim. As it was playing out, I thought, 'Oh I haven't seen this done before', and then they turned it completely on it's head when she screamed, "Uuurgh No!!!!". Fantastic.
Does that woman become a regular on the series then?

Excellent episode tonight. Alice doing what we’ve all wanted to do for ages now. ;)
Marty: "She’ll come back to the source - The Fountainhead!" :D
Yep, another good one, really been delighted with the last 2/3.
The fountainhead was a great line as were:
'Is that a yes or a no?'
and,
'Erase! You're not erasing!'
Great episode.
It would also be fitting if Lilith ends up with the emotionless android from Star Trek. ;)
I liked it, too. But not the nipple subplot. Well, it was alright, it just didn't really fit in with the rest of the episode.
I do like Alice, though. So cute!

Lilith: [sitting beside him] Frasier, recently a subconscious yearning has tunneled its way to the surface and I now know what it is I need in order to make my life complete.
Frasier: Well, that's wonderful news. How can I help?
Lilith: You can give me your sperm.
Frasier: I beg your pardon?
Lilith: I want to have another baby.
Frasier: Well, you certainly don't need me for that. Surely... someone in Boston must have sperm.
Lilith: I came to you first so that Frederick could have a full sibling.
Frasier: So, just like that we're going to have another baby together.
Lilith: No, not just like that. I mapped out our dominant and recessive traits on a genome square, applied Mendel's laws, allowed for anomalies and concluded that you are the best biological choice.
Frasier: I see. Well, as enticed as I am by your honeyed words, I'm gonna need some kissin'.
Lilith: Frasier, don't misunderstand, I'm not proposing any change in our relationship.
Frasier: Would we... sleep together?
Lilith: I thought we'd freeze your sperm.
Frasier: Is that a "yes" or a "no"?
Lilith: atural fertilization is impractical. I'd have to fly to Seattle every time I ovulate.
Frasier: [getting up] Right, okay. So, then your plan is for me to visit some local doctor, freeze my essence and then bring it home with you.
Lilith: Correct. I'll take mine to go.

Maybe they intend to show a Brit as such an oddity - thinking that you need to be so bizarre in order to have both your daughter and son-in-law wish that you weren't living with them....

Fraiser 11pm, West Wing 11.30pm... WW will be on at about half two at this rate.
Quite a good episode - Fraiser's bike bits were the highlight. Especially that tree and the post box thing. Brilliant.

Last episode of the current series folks
A New Position for Roz
Roz gets ready to leave the radio station and join up with a rival company, but not before voicing her concerns about Frasier's new relationship with Julia.
What no Roz for the final series? :luv:
As for the Frasier dvd box-set, not very impressed with the 'extras'.
Commentary on the pilot was fairly lame and got covered again in the 'Behind The Couch' mini featurette. Also, 'Frasier Crane's apartment' didn't hit any right buttons here. As for the 'celebrity voices' mostly unheard of (by me) americans. So....
Episodes 9/10
Extras 2/10

I presumed that Roz's job was somewhere else in Seattle given that she went for an interview during the previous episode. I'm sure she will still be in the last series. I do hope they get rid of Gertrude though.

Great episode to finish off the season.
I have to say though, CH4 have seemed to have deliberately set out to kill the show in the ratings in this country.
First they move it to Monday nights, then they mess about with the times, just to accommodate ******' Graham Norton's show!
I used to think C4 was the best terrestial channel, but with the way the treated this, Bab5, Angel, Alias, etc, I think that honour is tied between BBC2 and CH5 now!
And that's something I never thought I'd say !
Rant over
Yeah, C4 really have gone down lately. It's become a channel based around Friends, Big Brother and Garaham Norton. All of which are bad.
I do hope Five get things like The West Wing, Sopranos, et al.
It is a disgrace for a channel that used to be the 'home' of the best US shows.
In recent weeks we've seen new episodes of Frasier, West Wing, NYPD Blue and The Sopranos all airing at way past 11.00pm.
CH5 have become my channel of choice for treating TV series the way that they deserve.
