(This is probably in the wrong forum ... sorry)

But I'm looking at replacing my TV (21' Sony) and wondered what people thought was a good replacement. I've got around £450 to play with and would like a 24' widescreen.

At the moment a Panasonic or Philips look promising. Are these brands any good for TVs.

Cheers,

T

Go for larger set or don't bother. 24" WS is too small and 28" can be had for the money you are looking at.

Oh and this is the wrong forum but I can't move it :(

Ok. Starting to narrow it down to models. Anyone got any thoughts on the following?

Panasonic, TX24DX1, 24in (61cm), Widescreen £360

PANASONIC 28" WIDESCREEN NICAM STEREO 28DK1 £397

PHILIPS 28PW6006C 28" nicam stereo widescreen £400

SHARP 28HW73H 28" Nicam stereo widescreen £370

The Panny and Phillips are both good AFIK. The Phillips models have come a long way and are definately worth an audition. I'd try to find somewhere to check them out then but at the best price.

You can probably pivk up the Philips 28PW6515 for your budget. Best got for flat screen. Ignore the sound at the moment because theres the potential to hook it upto a home cinema system anyway which is far better than anyhting u get with the TV. Although the 6515 comes with virtual surround sound. Flat screen everytime is the winner.

Get one of the magazines - one is no doubt going to have reviews for this budget this month - and look at the adevrts in there.

If you can hold off until after Xmas the sales will have lots of TVs knocked out cheap. You got the magazines and then you can research them. Phone around the shops in the magazines and then when you get a great price, get John Lewis or Debenhams to price match, which they will as long as theres a shop, as opposed to just internet. I have found Debenhams a lot more easier to use than John Lewis. Open a store card at the same time and get upto 10% off. John Lewis and Debehams throw in a free 5 yrs guarantee which is definatly worth it free, and not worth paying a few hundred which Comet would gladly charge u for it.

Thanks for the posts. A PHILIPS 28PW6006C 28" nicam stereo widescreen £400 is looking like a winner at the moment.

Comet or Currys are doing a Ferguson 32" widescreen for £399

http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/297_816532.html

And an horrific-looking (my opinion only !) Goodmans 32" for £379

http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/297_816532.html

Both offer a picture about 40% bigger than a 28" and would probably be worth it for that reason alone.

HTH,
Mike.
