View Full Version : Birds Of Prey 1x01 **Spoilers**
Ok, not sure if many people (outside USA) know about this? It is based on the Batman series and is as follows:
Basically Batman and Catwoman had a daughter (but he didn't know about it!) and catwoman was killed and Batman left Gotham (or New Gotham as it is called). The daughter (Helena Kyle/Huntress) they had is in this as a meta-human type person (played by Ashley Scott - not a bad looker in the very low cut outfit she was wearing :norty: ). Then there is Oracle/Barbara Gordon who is also Batwoman in her former existence who is now confined to a wheelchair after The Joker attacked her and killed Catwoman. Then there is the character Dinah (Rachel Skarsten - also not bad looking) who is also meta-human and can enter peoples minds/have premunition type dreams etc). They team up against the bad guys...
Also stars Mia Sara as Dr. Harleen Quinzel - The Brilliant Madwoman Villan of the series. Unfortunately IMO she has lost a LOT of her looks from the Ferris Bueller days.
Oh and the episode has Mark Hammil in as the voice of The Joker!
So if anyone has seen this - what did they think? I think it may have a bit of potential depending on how well they develop the characters and don't go too much like X-men in Gotham City!
EDIT: Removed Spoiler tags as not needed now ;)
I really liked it. The plot of the pilot wasn't that great but they had to spend a lot of time introducing the characters. The actresses look great - although I agree that Mia Sara hasn't aged very well - but maybe it's just that terrible haircut. Just a few observations:
- The voice-over at the beginning was horrible and unneccesary.
- The 'cat sound-effects' while Huntress fights or does something special were annoying.
- Huntress needs a better costume - I love looking at her breasts as much as everybody else - but that costume is just too unrealistic for fighting.
- They should get rid of the cop - we've seen too many of these before (the two cops on Charmed, Kate on Angel, the Sheriff on Roswell).
- Get Mia Sara a better haircut - she looks like she's fifty with this short blonde haircut.
Apart from that I think it has great potential.
Totally agreed there with all comments. Especially liked your comment about Huntress' costume
I've found this on http://www.gothamclocktower.com/
- Hate Helena's costume? That's quite all right. Starting with Wednesday's episode, "Slick," the Huntress will stalk her prey in different clothing.
- The Huntress growling effects that bring back memories of Thundercats are also now gone.
- Dinah will have a more serious arc to play out over the first six episodes. She won't just be playing the country bumpkin, but a heavier role in her journey as a hero.
- The issue of Helena's secret identity (or lack thereof) will be a recurring theme throughout the first season.
- Batman did not flee New Gotham!
- Helena's metagenes will also be dealt with...and there's probably a connection to something that happened to her mother in "Batman Returns."
So most of the complaints will be dealt with.
Well, I'll let you know tonight what I think of episode 2!
I've just got round to watching this ... and I really enjoyed it , kinda reminded me of Dark Angel (The first season anyway)somewhat .. I agree with SvenL on most of his points ... But I am hopeful this will be a half way decent series ... And I have to say :norty: regarding Huntress
Right off to watch the 2nd Episode now

I think it is repeated later this week, thursday maybe. Not 100% sure as I quickly looked through the listings last night once I noticed I had missed most of it last night.

I keep dropping subtle hints to the wife regarding Sky Plus, but I don't think it's working.
Mind you I have difficulty in justifying the extra cost to myself, let alone her. Would still love it though...
Cheers,

well, the wife had a huge go at me when the tivo arrived.
1/2 a hour later, after she had got used to it and worked out it could record all her soaps etc. without her worrying about it , she made me swear to never remove it - on pain of death
So can anyone confirm the show on tonights CNX was the pilot?.
I missed the 1st five mins. Wasn't all that impressed to be honest. The acting was beyond cheesy, nice totty to look at but none of them seemed that interested with their characters and the Huntress (albeit a bit of a looker) seemed like she should be in something like 'Days of our Lives' with her overacting.
Wanted to like it but sadly i can understand why it was canned.
I wasn't overly impressed by the first ep when I watched it a few months ago, but a couple of weeks later, watched the second ep and thought it was much better, with the show improving throughout, leaving me disappointed when I found it had been axed :(
Then I heard Farscape had been axed too and this made me feel a little better :|

If anyone with sky+ is thinking of recording it - don't bother.
I've added it 3 times to the planner and CNX - being a bunch of morons who don't know how to use the sky software - have updated wrongly and wiped it off.
So i never actually got to see it.
Bunch of morons :( :( :(
Watched the unaired pilot the other day with Sherilyn Fenn instead of Mia Sara as Harleen Quinzel. Thank God Sherilyn didn't continue I say - she can't act - seemed as though she was reading off a script/autocue rather badly all the time, and he character didn't seem that evil streak in her whatsoever.
