View Full Version : Singlepoint & deposits - is this legal?

I bought a mobile in February on Vodafone which is billed through Singlepoint. As I had a bad credit rating due to buying my first flat the previous summer and changing addresses a couple of times (my finances were actually very good - don't you love credit ratings!) I had to pay a £50 deposit which Phones 4 U assured me would be credited back to me after 6 months. It's now 7 months later so I called Phones 4 U who said I should have had the money back by now and advised me to call Singlepoint. The woman at Singlepoint asked me if I'd requested my deposit back and explained that you have to make a request to have the money credited into your account (takes 2 weeks!) and then make another request if you want a cheque sent. This all sounds very dodgy to me. Surely (1) it's their responsibility to return a deposit not mine to ask for it and (2) they should at least make sure customers are aware of how they operate their scheme.

Well I had to leave a deposit once, but with Carphone Warehouse, coz I was a student, but it was promptly credited back to me after the agreed time so I guess you could just argue with them that CPW don't even need the prompting, that should make them cough up.....I hope. Good luck!!

P.S. I don't think you can call it illegal, unless its stated otherwise in the T&Cs (have u checked them?), it's just a bit of a hassle I think.
