I don't know if I've mentioned it before but one of the best films I've ever seen is being shown again on
Sky Movies Sci-fi/horror (307) 00:30 saturday (or friday if you haven't noticed the time!)

On again on the 6th, 15th and 23rd December if you missed this.

(was CH4 this saturday night/sun morning in the 2002 version of this post)

It's a thriller called "mute witness". Not that flick with Madaline stowe, this is much better. It's about a mute woman who's working on a Moscow film set when she witnesses the making of a snuff film. It's great becuase the film never lets up and keeps going and going. If you looked up thriller in the dictionary this film would be listed as an example.

You must watch it. I'm only sad that it's not available on DVD.

Oh, and Alec Guiness has a role in it if you're still not convinced!

Couldn't agree more camaj, it's a terrific thriller & when the opportunity arises I always try to enthuse people I know into watching it. In the absence of a DVD I must remember to record it at the weekend.

This was the first film I ever saw at the London Film Festival, back in 1995 (one of the main stars is a pre-Cold Feet Fay Ripley).

The section with Alec Guinness was filmed, I believe, circa 1986 -- seven or so years before the rest of the movie. Anthony Waller met him somewhere, a film festival or something, and asked him if he'd consent to appearing in this movie he was making. Mr. Guinness said that his schedule wasn't free for some years, so they arranged to film it the very next morning & Waller spent that night writing the lines!

Alfred Hitchcock himself would've been impressed with the final product I think.

Good to see I'm not the only one. I will also have the VCR primed and ready

I saw it at the LFF also! I was so taken with the film that, as I knew the distributors, I asked Tri Star if they had a designer for the poster yet. As luck would have it they’d had a design rejected by London Underground (too gory) and I got the job of designing the UK quad poster for one of my favourite movies of the last ten years! Happy to say I have this on W/S laserdisc and only re-watched it a few months ago. Shame Anthony Waller (the director) has done nothing of note since.

You might want to add the title of the movie to your thread camaj as people may miss out.

So I see! I didn't put it in becuase I didn't think most people would have heard of it and might initially confuse it with that other film and then miss the whole thread.
Have you got a pic of the poster jonathon.e?

I saw this at the Leeds Film Festival which, IIRC, was it's UK premiere and was very, very impressed. Think I'll set my video for this unless there's a DVD avialable anywhere.

Got a bit confused by the Madeleine Stowe reference, but I guess you mean Blink (http://http://us.imdb.com/Title?0109297) where she plays a blind witness to a murder (cf. Sketch Artist II (http://http://us.imdb.com/Title?0114463) starring Courteney Cox, which is equally dismal).

This sounds like a good 'un though. Thanks for the heads up... VCR timer will be set (01:35 Sunday morning, C4).

Edit: Oh, and jonathan.e you've got an extra P on the end of the image url. ;)

No DVD sadly. I don't think this film is well known enough to justify a DVD release yet.

Thanks for the help headstar and jonathon.e

Nice to see more people looking forward to this.

Good thriller ( although it's far from the best film ever...)

Shame the director then went and ruined all the good work by making the dire 'American Werewolf in Paris'.

For those who like/loved it Columbia Tristar have finally announced this for DVD (R1)

I didn't think it would see the light given it's relative obscurity.

Next up on obscure films I want on DVD: The Quiet Earth :notworthy

Yay! Thanks for the heads up, this is one of my most-wanted on DVD. Cracking film full of tension and surprises. I shall definitely tape it.

Same here, I'd like to replace that. And Manhatten Murder Mystery, but that's another story. I'm hoping for extras but I wouldn't be surprised if it's extra free. I do hope though that strong sales might persude them that an SE is a good idea.

Sorry for the late notice and extreme bump but this is on Sky Movies scifi/horror (307) at 00:30 (fri/sat)! No adverts like that CH4 showing.

I gave up on the DVD, waiting for the Blu-ray. C'mon Sony/Columbia pony up!
