Sky are showing this series in October paired up with new Stargate SG1 episodes.....
What's it about? Never heard of it!
Odyssey 5 is a show about the crew of the Shuttle Odyssey and what happens to it and them.....
The pilot is definitely worth watching, after that its a bit up and down while it finds its way (but isn't that true of any new series?), but its generally looking good...
The nice touches it has is that the acting isn't too bad and they talk like normal people (swearing when nor,al people would swear for example!)
more details:
they see the earth blown up while in space, they are rescued by a mysterious being who says that he has seen this happen to many planets, and that he can send their minds back five years so that they can try and save the planet... when they get back they start discovering about these intelligent things are on earth (sentients and synthetics) so they try and stop them while coming to terms that they are back in their bodies of five years previous....)
0r1n0c0: Are you the same person who posts the alias covers, etc on the alt.binaries.multimedia.alias (or something like that) NG?
I have managed to watch all 14 episodes of season 1 and believe me this series is well worth watching.........
One US critic called it a worthy successor to the Xfiles - it is!!!!!!
Yes yes yes!!!!! I posted about this when it first started but I still haven't seen anything. I didn't think it was big enough to get shown here. It's on showtime in the US so not a high profile series AIUI.
Can agree that it's a great series. I'm sure all the swearing will get cut over here though!
Deaks.
Just FYI, it starts on Wednesday 2nd October 21:00 - 23:00. Sadly Christopher Reeves Rear window is on Channel 5 at the same time.
Just watched this on Sky and it wasn't bad.
All the swearing was present, a refreshing change. Peter Weller was spot on, imo.
Going to stick with this, a promising debut, managed to hold my interest for the full 2 hours, which is more than I can say for some shows these days.
Dan.
Top bit of TV, had to stop watching with only half hour to go on the pilot though - other half wants to go to bed - damn! Still, good production values, great attention to detail, great CGI, decent acting, interesting idea, nice adult sci-fi... swearing, tits and Peter Weller... Robocop is bound to pop up soon!

I was quite impressed. I didn't know it was a non-network TV show, so I was quite taken aback by the swearing at first! And my mum just had to walk into the room at the precise moment the guy was having the threesome with two hookers... why does my mum always choose the worst time to walk in? Grrr. Anyway.
As long as it doesn't just rip off The X-Files, it looks like it'll be pretty good.
It looks more like 'first wave' meets 'the invaders' with a bit of 'seven days' thrown in.
i'll still watch it though.
A very impressive start, I thought the alien bit was a bit chessy but apart from that is was fairly good.
Excellent start - a lot like The X-Files "back in the days"... Really looking forward to episode 2. :)
Bit confusing really. The start was a bit boring but it picked up when they met the alien. That was the best bit. Once they'd got back it got a bit boring though. If they figure out what blows the planet up then what will they do for 5 years? Are they just going to go around trying to stop the satellite from being deployed?
Is the premier due to be shown again before next week?
Cheers, Paul
Are they just going to go around trying to stop the satellite from being deployed?
well obviously it's not that simple as they could just wait for five years and then cock up the deployment on purpose- they have to find the root source of the plan and destroy that.
Is the premier due to be shown again before next week?
yep, monday @ 2205

 For some reason my tape stopped 15-20 minutes from the end, so at least I will get to see the bit I missed.

I'll guarantee that it gets axed before the 5 years is up and we're all moaning about being left wondering! How many times has this happened before?????!!!!!

  from me. Was a bit supprised, (but pleased) to see two pair of perfectly formed breasts in this type of show. Nice level of realism lacking in the likes of Stargate, enterprise etc....

And in the soon to be released season one box set, again on R2.
Well having watched all 14 eps (Newsgroups are a plus) have to say that this gets better and better with only the odd bum episode.........
Definately an adult theme (one episode 'where's harry') has a 4 in the bed romp...........weird....
This series moves quick - the satelite is the tip of the iceberb - very soon their presence in their past makes an impact - the last episode really shook us and left us gobsmacked.....
Have fun!

You have already missed the repeated showing, its was on Monday just gone.
You can read a synopsis on epguides.com. You didn't miss much IMHO.
Good to hear the sat thing is the tip of the iceberg, this is what I was hoping. They hinted they were changing the past when that guys bet failed.
The English character's actually played by a french guy according to IMDB which is pretty impressive really. Can't fault the accent one bit
That English guy played by a french actor really, really looks like a younger Odo from Deep Space Nine. Same eyes, same grin, same facial expressions...bit too close just to be coinsidence. Anyone know if they are related?

well the guy in O5 is called Sebastian Roché and Odo is played by Rene Auberjonois (or Rene Aubergine, as I call him!)
Oh, and he's one of the russians in 15 minutes IIRC. Shame the film was terrible but it's on sky movies soon

Yeah, it's just odd how much alike they look...although there is a fair old age difference...

Just watching the second episode, and I have to say, this is one of the best SF shows I've seen in a good while. Well written, superb performances all round, naturalistic dialogue (complete with liberal swearing) and nudity.
This is crying out for a DVD release - any news, anyone?
Not a bad ep tonight. Didn't like the bit about the AI life on the net, complete rubbish. Did like that kids girlfriend though :norty:

You might want to add spoilers.
Anyway, that was my first thought at that. "What rubbish", but then I thought, could this really be possible? Just how much space does the internet have. How large are these AI programs? What if someone has somehow created a way of making AI in very, very small files? After all when you think about it, the scientists had made a system where programs were creating more advanced programs, and then those programs were creating even more advaced programs, and so on. They termed it "Artifical Life". So such programs would eventually get to a state that would be beyond human understanding, quite simply because they are not created by a human being. So with that in mind, it would become impossible for a person to say what is possible and what is impossible, as a human can only judge with human science.

Think I noticed a mistake in the second episode, not definite though. See what you think. When they were in lab questioning the technician, he states that the lab doesn't even have an internet connection. But later when they talk to the blonde girl, she says that the professor had stopped working on his projects and just spent hours on the web. How could he do this with no internet connection!?
Then again, she was an evil weird thing, so she could have been making up any old story to them.
I also wasn't paying a huge amount of attention to the episode, so I might have missed something that explained this. Very cool show though.

I don't think I gave anything away hence no spoilers.
The thing that I thought was stupid was this sci-fi Idea that there was some AI life on the net. They talked about it like a real thing. "Eating" bits of code and so on. What they were talking about is complete nonsense. The closest thing to what they were talking about is a virus. They were talking about cyberspace as if it was a tangable place (another sci-fi thing).

Regarding last nights episode:
Did he mean to drop that magnetic device ? It's now alerted the bad guys that someone within NASA is sabotaging their operation.
Yep he meant to drop it there. Not really sure why though...
And camaj, it depends on how you define "tangable".
Presumably so he didn't get spotted by the guard watching him.
Tangable? I don't know. They made it out to be a physical place more or less which it isn't. The graphic of them sitting somewhere and eating and fighting gave that impression too.
Much better ep this week IMHO
Yeah a good yep this week. I suspect the crew will end up getting in trouble before long at the rate they are going.
As for the "Cyber Space", as I understood it, the graphics of the eating and fighting, was just represention of the code. No actual physical space, but rather code in the system that has learnt how to deveop itself, and also take over and adapt other code...similar to as you say a virus. But in this situation it would be an intelligent one. Obviously the graphical represention makes it more interesting, as well as giving the operator an idea of what is happening with the code...
I finally finished watching all the eps a couple of days ago and I'm thinking of some really bad words to describe the people responsible for axing it at that point......surely they could have tied up the loose ends in the last 3-6 eps that full US seasons usually have instead of leaving it hanging like that! :((

Agreed. I will miss this show a lot, and it was a stupid place to leave it at.
At least it give you the opportunity to speculate about what was going to happen. They gave you enough information to start coming up with ideas
Anyone who cares, Lindy Booth is in Wrong Turn, out this weekend. :norty:
....or there's always "The Skulls" to watch if it's on where her top falls off.
