Enjoyed it
Great Show,
very Well Done but would the SAS really pull there Masks off in
a) full view of Hostages and b) Walk where the Media Can photograph them (The New Guy as he leaves the Bank walks toward the Open "White Wall" where the Media is assembeled.)

Enjoyed it Absolutely agree - just the ticket for a slow Monday night. Full of cliches but entertaining none the less.
Are the SAS allowed to tell relatives about what they do - i.e. that they are in the SAS?
I mean - fair enough if you tell your wife/partner - but telling your brothers and sisters?
Wouldn't the helichopper be a bit of a giveaway?
I thought it was a bit pants really.

I think the show was good, but I don't believe they would pull down their mask in full view of the media and hostages.
I live in the town where the SAS is based (I think most people know where it is), and everybody here knows where the base is. It is so obvious, the old base where they were is still there with all the hanger, helipad, barracks and everything. They are discrete about what they do but it's not hard to see who are and who aren't if you live around here long enough. I personally know one, and my friend's neighbourhood has a few near him. And I think I don't think they even tell their family where they are going, they just say "I am off for a few weeks" or some sort.
It was good but they should not have said they where a SAS squad. It would have been better if they where a elite police squad or something. The SAS do not get involved in bank robberies etc... they only get involved in milatry type situations.
Take a look at "The one that got away" or "Bravo Two Zero" that's how the SAS operate.
Dave
Dave B What was the Libyan Embassy then? or the Numerous Plane Hijackigs?
The SAS can be used for ending Seiges if the Civilan Goverment deem it necesery as far as I know.
The SAS are considered the Worlds Best Counter-Terrorism/Special Operations Unit because they can respond to a Terrorist incident or to a War Situation. Plus alot of terrorists used bank Roberies to fund there campaigns so thats another reason for the SAS to deploy.

This was a load of absolute crap, talk about 2D characterisation, Chris Ryan must be hard up getting involved with this.
The bit where he goes in and beats up two gay bashers was laughable, also the candlelight SAS dinner, don't make me laugh. Some of the characters looked far to young to be in the SAS as well.I know its meant to be gung ho entertainment, but to me it was poorly done and sucked big time.
Compared to most ITV fare it was pretty good IMO. Mindless popcorn entertainment for the weekday evening.
The Professionals didn't always make sense or ring totally true - but it was still fun to watch.

Sergio B, have you met a SAS guy? they are just normal people you know, ok, the candel light bit was over the top but the SAS bloke I know loves Gardening!
Fighter pilots are often the most boring people around. If you have a work and social life at the level of the SAS - then you will burn out in no time.

As has been said earlier, Yes it was full of cliches and a load of b****cks but I really enjoyed it. I hope that ITV see fit to order a second series as this is their best action-adventure series since Sharpe or even The Professionals.
It makes me wonder how much better the Professionals re-make would've been with Ross Kemp starring as the Bodie type agent(instead of that gymp from Crossroads!).
Hope it's not too long before this gets an R2 release.:rocker:
Next episode tomorrow. I wonder if this is just for the first week or if it is going to be a twice-weekly show.

I also live a few miles from the base, and know of people there... As raymondlin says, the place is hardly a secret, but some of the stuff on that program was a bit silly :)
I personally think that they shouldn't have used the SAS name for this show, but it's done now, lol. Chris Ryan is involved too - now there's a suprise :D

Well, a reminder for those of us who did enjoy it that the second episode is tonight. Red Troop still coming to terms with the loss from episode 1 (loved the Pythonesque pumping femoral artery by the way, very Holy Grail:thumbs: ). From the trailer that I saw, looks like the quiet lad has to go out and do a bit of sniping. Nothing else on and it will pass the time.
Just watching the end of the Bill currently - so will watch this straight afterwards :)
Speaking of The Bill, (and ever so slightly off topic), what is wrong with the one who plays McAllister. Is her jaw wired? She always talks through clenched teeth

It's her character - she's meant to be a grouchy nasty ice queen
But clenched teeth? Don't really say grouchy nasty ice queen to me, that says "I have lockjaw". Oh well, not been too good since they got rid of Bob Cryer and firebombed the nick, too much like a soap now. :(

The SAS have no jurisdiction in the Republic. They could not and would not risk going across the border... It would cause an international incident.
And in fact the training is man down move on... Raymondin is right in so far as the motto belongs to an American Unit ... The Rangers I believe... and they were the ones who are depicted in Black Hawk Down.... Widely regarded as a huge cock up.
they might have no jurisdiction but it doesn't stop them from operating there in the past.
And its a SEAL Credo and from what I can gather they borrowed it from Our teams.
There is a difference between leaving a wounded man in a Counter Terrorist op and Leaving a wounded man in Enemy Hands/Behind Enemy Lines.
Ill try and find the source that said the SAS try not to leave behind men.

They went to Bosnia or somewhere similar and had to grab a war criminal warlord type. Pete (redheaded Irishman) got shot badly and was in a coma at the end. The Asian guy resigned and went home to his parents. Other young guy snogged the girl in the group. That's about it.
Still have to see the finale on tape, but overall I have enjoyed it. It was not rocket science, you could drive a bulldozer through the script, it was very predictable and I have no doubt that people to tear its accuracy to strips if so desiring.
However, it was entertaining enough and better than much of the drivel they have put out in recent months. Nice bit of escapism and Ross Kemp has shown that he has not become typecast ;)

Wednesday 18 June 9pm - Communication. Series 2, episode 1
Red Troop of the SAS is back in action when a ship docks at Southampton with a suspicious crew. Jamie and Henno sneak on board to plant a tracker, but the operation goes wrong - they lose radio contact with base and are forced to kill a man. Caroline poses as a customs officer to help them escape, but events get out of control and a tremendous gun battle leaves Red Troop in the firing line.

Just one question, was a bit confused by Caroline being shot. Was that supposed to be the gunman doing it, or was that Jamie shooting after Henno had killed him?
What DVD, its unavailable in my area no one has it  Just wish they had made more than 1000 dvd's so anyone who wanted it could get it
next weeks episode looks intresting, though France has a cheeck IMHO, they had troops on a suspicious ship who opened fire on British forces (they must of guessed they were SAS) and then blame us for the carnage. Plus killing the SAS soldier when he was down, injured was murder, he was no longer any threat to them.
Maybe someone can explain why top of the range military radios, never workeed in a ship but commercial cell phones did

Having watched most of Season One through gritted teeth last year I would never in a thousand years have thought of nominating 'Ultimate Force' as worthwhile viewing but I may have to revise my opinion.
In last night's opener not only was the pace faster but the story - in which French Special Forces, Turkish smugglers and Henno's SAS lads collided in a bloody shipboard massacre - was both exciting and surprising. It was clearly intended to bring the viewer back next week and I think it's fair to say it succeeded, at least with this viewer.
The improvements: First, Ross Kemp. His hard man routine was 100% unconvincing in 'Eastenders' and as SAS leader Henno even more so in Season One of 'Ultimate Force'. With his baby face and gimlet eyed stare you just want to fall about laughing whenever he appears. I don't know if it was the half-way decent script, or Kemp's acting - but for some reason much of what was previously so bad about him was reassuringly absent last night.
Henno's squad: No Regan and Carter's or Bodie and Doyle's here, alas but there are signs of life. Most notably that black guy who raged at one of his mates for starting the fatal shootout. That could have legs if developed over subsequent episodes. Let's hope that it is.
Even stroppy Captain Caroline - who on the evidence of last season was in serious need of a good kick up the arse - turned out to be more appealing although given what happened to her that's hardly surprising. A dull love scene between her and Jamie was made up for by one in which Henno ordered her to end the affair. It was a good scene because it made clear that the world these men inhabit simply cannot permit 'office-affairs' as it were.
A sub-plot in which a squaddie who had previously got himself shot up starts suffering from post-traumatic stress was strictly routine but will hopefully lead to a decent payoff further down the line.
Dialogue seemed improved, slightly. Despite a few clunkers (almost always when the cast were trying to be funny) I didn't notice anything as consistently bad as last season when practically every line had me groaning in disbelief. Perhaps I was distracted by the action on display. Talking of which brings me to last night's delightful display of guns, gore and mayhem.
A promising start in which unidentified members of a ship's crew suddenly produced weapons and started blasting away at each other from point blank range played like something from the climax of 'Reservoir Dogs'. It didn't quite descend into parody though and the scene made it perfectly clear that the men in charge of the ship ('Head for Southampton!') were not only armed to the teeth but ruthless with it.
Cue Henno and the lads down at the docks for a briefing by MI5. The spooks don't know what's on the ship and Henno and the lads don't know if this is the real deal or a training exercise. The viewer, however, does, so watching them sneak aboard the ship produced some genuine unease. And then a tough knife fight confirms that this isn't an exercise - no way. 'He knew how to fight!', gasps a stunned SAS soldier to Henno. Then all hell breaks loose and what follows is a brutal and bloody firefight.
A couple of things happened here that I really wasn't expecting. We're all used to seeing supporting characters killed off but it can still pack a punch if it's done well and here it was. Clearly this isn't intended as a standalone episode. I had thought it would be but there were as many questions left unanswered as there were bodies on that ship so the ramifications are clearly going to run on for at least a few more episodes.
To sum up then: Last night's opener was a big improvement over a truly dire first season. Let's hope the producers can keep this modest standard up. Oh, and for those of you wondering about how 'Ultimate Force' fares in comparison to BBC1's secret agents show - last night's episode was about 1000 times more entertaining than any episode of 'Spooks' I've yet seen.
Is this repeated at all on ITV2?

Have to say I think Ross Kemp is much improved in this series... But would also argue that series one was not as bad as made out either. I thought the last two eps in particular were very good. The NI ep and Bosnian ep. The opener in series one was too long and the Anti-globalisation ep was a bit daft. Selection ep was good but probably would have been better without the murderer. Didn't see the Anthrax one. But I think much of the criticism of Series One is down to the Kemp factor.... as Jamie Bell and Tony Curran and indeed Danny Sappani are quality.

Looks to me like this was filmed at the end of last season. I doubt they'd bring 2 actors back to have them killed off in the 1st episode.

>That explosion shot was such a Desperado/Spooks rip-off. Fun though.
I'm glad someone enjoyed it. What kind of show are they trying to make here? That explosion scene with the bird walking away in slow motion was cliched beyond belief. How many times have we seen that in crap Hollywood action movies? I'm also getting very tired of the extremely poor acting - mainly of the weekly guest stars most of whom are just not convincing (the SAS guys are fine). Did you believe the performance of that teacher-terrorist last night? Or her 'star' pupil? Because I sure as hell didn't.
If they keep this up I may have to go back to watching 'Spooks'
The name of the group that the head to55er used to belong to was amusing .... The BRP ..... if only they'd used the BMP it would heva been even better ... and closer to the real name

Last one tonight :( They really should do longer runs. 6 weeks is ridiculous. Even Spooks has extended to 10 episodes.
6 episodes is not enough, it's not as if it's the first series and they're just testing the water. The same thing applies to The Vice, how many of them was there in the last series?

A decent ep but not for one second did I believe they were more than ten miles from whichever studio this is normally filmed at.
They’ve clearly been watching The Shield and taken the Ross Kemp/Chiklis comparison to heart and decided to steal that show’s opening plot twist.
Would it have killed them to announce a third (very mini) series at the end of this one?
 at the cold blood killing of the creepy captain by Henno
Can't believe he would have just killed him, seems a bit out of character really.
Did seems a bit strange that he killed him like that although I saw that coming. Thought the action scenes were a bit dodgy, the opposition need training on how to collapse realisticly when being shot

I wasn't surprised by Henno shooting the captain as he'd been asking for it all along. Not only did he make an a##e of himself when he first joined (demanding that Pete salute him and address him as sir) but he also backed out of the raid on the security vault thinking of his own safety first.

...It's a shame, but without Chappell there was no point to this programme!
...did anyone else think it really strange that, especially considering the circumstance that Chappell was written out, his name was never(...or at least hardly ever in my recollection) mentioned in the last series. Your boss goes down for murder over revenge for a crime against one of his officers, and it's never even referred to...how bloody ungrateful was that Cheryl...couldn't even go and visit the mad bugger
Are they likely to repeat this series in the near future?
I set the video to record the last episode and let it run until couple minutes past ten and it shut off before the programme finished, so I missed the climax  - I couldn't believe it (Victor Meldrew voice) - usually ITV stuff ends a few minutes before the hour so they can put the ads on!!

They didn’t repeat the first series so unlikely they will the second unless it turns up on ITV2. Hopefully they may get the DVD out a bit sharpish.

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds11318.html Shame I liked the vice :( I admit the loss of Chappel was a big let down and it was better when it ran for 2 hours but still a shame to see it go.
I've really enjoyed Ultimate Force this time round and hope it doesn't go the same way.

The final episode is repeated on ITV2 tonight, if that's any help to you.
Great one - cheers Ragnar
