Sad news for all Farscape fans...
In an online chat on Friday David Kemper confirmed rumours about the decision by Sci Fi Networks to Opt Out of the contract to create a 5th Season of Farscape. This means that the current Season 4, which will continue in January with 4x12, is the Last Season...
The news had taken the whole crew by complete surprise, and will leave the series hanging by a cliffhanger, as the final episodes of Season 4 have only 2 days filming left to be done.
It also seems unlikely that another network will pick the show up due to scifi owning the rights to the first 88 episodes, David Kemper (Exce.producer) said this:
At the moment, the whole deal hinges on what to do with the
first 88 eps.
Perhaps a network would be interested in running
a 5th and 6th year of Farscape --
and you should know
we have the 5th season already plotted out --
however, without the right to air the first 88
eps, they'd be hard pressed to provide financing and see no return
for years because Sci Fi has the rights to the first 88.
A sad for Farscape fans, to think they are cancelling this and leaving crap like Andromeda on the air.

OMG! :shocker:
This is another case of networks cancelling a show without being able to make a proper ending, e.g. Dark Angel. Maybe the producers could secure enough backing to finish off the show with a couple of extended specials? Not ideal, but better than nowt I guess.
What is the matter with them!!!!!!!
Farscape even won SciFi a Saturn award this year for best male performance from Ben Browder. To weasel out of their contract now after so recently agreeing to 2 more seasons is beyond stupid.

absolutely beyond belief!!!!!
i cant believe how stupid & short sighted some people are...
penny pinching i recon! maximise the profit without spending anymore money & the fans? oh they don't matter!!!!
OO
Anyone got any idea what the official excuse was for this brainwave? Surely it can't be falling ratings?
Or did they feel it wasn't bland and predictable enough for the US audience?
No! This is not right.
Farscape was the best piece of sci-fi to come out in a long time!
I iwas having a good day until now.
And to keep the mindnumbingly unoriginal Andromeda going is just purile. :brickwall
OK, where's the petition I have to sign???
This is NOT over. :nono:

And, the decision on Stargate S7 will be announced soon. with higher ratings than Farscape on the SCI-FI channel, they may go for it.
As for Farscape, SCI-FI should finance a re-shoot of the final ep' to end it properly or release the rights.

short bit from sci-fi chat last night
" As you know, Sci Fi has picked us up
for 4th and 5th seasons.
However, as with everything done at a
corporate level,
there was an out clause built into Sci Fi's
pickup schedule.
As of yesterday, we were informed --
after massive efforts by everyone at Henson
and working on the show --
most importantly Brian Henson
and the 3 gentlemen
here
that Sci Fi was not going to exercise it's
option to pick up the 5th season of Farscape. "

Un-bloody-believable, yet Enterprise will probably manage to run for seven season effortlessly. Seems very short-sighted of Sci-Fi Channel to me as I could see Farscape taking money for many years to come purely on the back of DVDs and related merchandise.

Once again the bl**dy men in suits (i.e accountants) decide who lives and who dies in TV land.
I bet these people just don't even watch their own program to see what unique and execellent entertainment is done by the Henson group, and appreciated by many people all over. I am sure the DVD sales alone must give them some idea of it's popularity.
I would understand if the show was crap, but come on, this is quality entertainment.
As said above, it is a slap in the face to all fans to pull the rug from under the Farscape show like that without further warning. The people who decide just don't care about the fans and their loyality to the show. If it wasn't for the fans, these shows wouldn't even take off.
Very disallusioned, and very, very angry.

I don't believe this crap! Farscape is so clearly the best Sci-Fi show currently in production, how can they cancel this when utter junk like Voyager was allowed to drag on for 7 seasons?
I was really looking forward to season 4 (should be starting soon on the Beeb I guess) but knowing that it will be the last season is a real bummer.

Sadly the executives always seem very happy to weild the axe over sci-fi shows. Despite loyal fanbases, they never seem to give a stuff. Could you see them doing this to something like Friends or ER?
Look at Babylon 5, that project was always started on the understanding that it was a 5-year story arc and they nearly canned that at the end of season 4, leading to a rushed season finale in case they did not get the last season, and that led to season 5 being a bit directionless.
The Dark Angel example is another good one, with the show canned after leaving a nice big cliffhanger. There has been talk of a one-off TV movie to tie up all the loose ends, but I doubt it will happen.
But what surprises me most is that it is a Sci-Fi channel that is pulling the rug from under them - you would have thought that they would understand sci-fi more than others, but yet again we see that what rules the roost is the almighty dollar :oh-hum:

I read somewhere that the Star Trek franchise appeals to a lot of people who don't normally watch sci-fi, and may be the only sci-fi shows that they watch. Hence why since TNG, they have been trotting out as many shows and genres as they can. I assume that Farscape has a more sci-fi fan base and as such, the greedy executives do not see it as much of a money-spinner.

A couple of rumours going around as to why it was canned - Stargate, which the scifi recently bought, has been performing well in the ratings for them and they want to commission a 7th season. Stargate actors and other talent want more money and they felt this was a better investment than Farscape.
Another is that Farscape was starting to gain appeal in other demographics, female viewers were up 70% and older viewers were tuning in. Unfortunately, these demographics are not the holy grail of the tv execs - male 18-36 group with disposable income.

Truely shocking news.....was Sci-fi's highest rated show for 3 years till SG1 came along, and one of the few sci-fi shows that actually recieved critical acclaim in the normal press.... very dissapointing decision...
it's a tragic irony that one of my favourite shows is causing another of my favourites off the air :( - surely there must be enough money to finance making both series.

"UPDATE!!!
Things continue to change rapidly in this campaign. We have new, extremely important information this afternoon.
According to Barbarella, the operator of Sci-Fi #Farscape chatroom, SCI-FI is the reason behind this. They wanted to lower the price for season 5 but EM.TV (hensons parent company) refused. SCI-FI then decided to DROP FARSCAPE. Okay, 'Scapers we need to let SCI-FI know just how much they stand to loose if they refuse to bring Farscape back. This is a money issue so hit them where this will hurt the most. Call SCI-FI, send telegrams, send emails, write letters. Remember the last day of filming for season 4 is Tuesday and the sets are scheduled to be struck on FRIDAY. Don't let them take a chainsaw to Moya! In the Networks Information page you'll find a link to more information on Sci-Fi there you will see THEIR OWN press releases where they talk about how important Farscape is to them. You'll also find demographic information for Farscape viewers. In your correspondence with them, give them your demographics. Exp - Female, age 27, single, etc.

What is it with these US TV execs. Over the last year they've managed to cancel so many quality original shows. Futurama, Family Guy, Dark Angel and now Futurama. All gone. In the meantime we're left with unoriginal rubbish like Andromeda, Mutant X and god knows how many cut-price X-Files clones. Do these people even watch the programmes they're in charge of.
I only hope the US Sci-Fi channel sink without trace after royally screwing their target audience!

They probably could come up with all kinds of crap excuses for cancelling Farscape, but come on they could at least give a longer warning so the story could be wrapped up properly.
They just don't give a damn about the audience. :( :(
It would serve them right the next time they try and sell the audience a new show, and because of lack of consideration for the public, the people just didn't watch. I for one will not get into a new show just to have the plug pulled again.
Calmed down enough now to type straight! (It was late, I was tired and then this)
Well, that's both petitions signed (not that the suits ever listen to the fans). Lets just hope that Sci Fi are willing to stump up the cash for a couple of TV movies to finish off the story.
It's amazing how in 6 months a series can go from being touted as having a possible future big screen cinema run to being cancelled.

SEPTEMBER 9, 2002 SCI-FI CHAT WITH ANTHONY (FLOPPY) SIMCOE ON HIS LAST DAY OF FILMING.
if you want to help go
here (http://farscape.wdsection.com/)
Thank you to Sabrina for this transcript
"<Ploppy> Hi everyone - Anthony here - I've just come from my last scene as D'Argo - I wanted to start and end my day with the fans so I thought I'd drop in and say hi
<Ploppy> I'm very emotional. It was a strange feeling to be in the make-up today - quite a profound mood
<Ploppy> Well it's 5:22 pm here in Sydney town
<Ploppy> Jsut be senstive to the anniversary the world is sharing this week before you start sending heaps of boxes anyplace
<Ploppy> I got some great shots today. Very sad but great shots. The disasembling has commenced in earnest now
<Ploppy> We will never forget the community that has built up around this show - I hope to meet you all at conventions so we can have a laugh
<Ploppy> What you are all doing is fabulous - you were all the main point of discussion at lunch today between myself Andrew Prowse and various producers - we think you're all great
<Ploppy> I can assure you this is no PR prank - I have 3 auditions tommorrow (don't ask ;-) )
<Ploppy> No soap for me folks
<Ploppy> Don't have the clout in the industry to ask for out clauses (they'd laugh at me) so I guess...no
<Ploppy> Mat Roush (Is that his name?) at TV guide always gave us great reviews. Has his inbox been bommbarded? (admin note: Roush's information is on the media contacts page)
<Ploppy> Don't start bagging other shows on their bb's. We want to enlist support - not antagonise people - kill them with kindness people
<Ploppy> I would love to keep the Qualta rifle and sword - they are very very cool props. Often sci-fi props look a bit ho-hum in real life but let me assure you the qualta rifle is awsome - even in person
<Ploppy> Nothing is for naught!!!!!!! We love Farscape. We're fighting - you're fighting. The reality is though we aren't super rich people (why do you think they cast and shoot in Oz) I'm not giving up. I'm looking for other work simply because I have to pay my mortgage on my house
<Ploppy> I had enormous changes in mind for D'Argo season 5. In fact if all wnet well I had a meeting tomorrow to discuss it - It would answer - Why Lo La? What's happening with the Luxan race? and What role does D'Argo have in the unwritten history of his planet
<Ploppy> Dave Elsey and I discussed an Episode in 5 with HEAPS of Luxans - his ideas for the elders and rulers of my home land are fantastic
<Ploppy> No the cast does not make money out of the DVD sales - but buy them anyway
<Ploppy> Perhaps fate marked him as a general for a reason and a greater purpose
<Ploppy> No residual payements for us - they're bought up front in perpetuity - now you're starting to understand why they shoot in Australia a little better ;-)
<Ploppy> No Australian decision at any level, government or production, had an influence on this decision - It was all made aboce us
<Ploppy> above us
<Ploppy> Well folks I'm off to enjoy the sunset on my balcony and have a few quiet moments to myslef
<Ploppy> You folks rock!! Thank you, You're efforts are NEVER in vain because your efforts liveon in the hearts of us making the show - and that means something"

Farscape won't go without a fight, I've signed the petitions, and sent emails.
Anyone who wants to save Farscape can also send personal emails for the attention of Ms. Bonnie Hammer, Senior Vice President of Programming to:

feedback@www.scifi.com
To let the executives cancelling this show know exactly how you feel.
Apparently the execs ARE reading these emails, so please try writing, although it's probably better if people don't just vent their anger but write how disappointed they are, as I believe the more venomous emails are simply deleted.

SCI-FI Double Talk Angers Fans
Los Angeles, CA - September 9, 2002 - In a move that has shocked and angered fans of Farscape even further, the Sci Fi channel released an expected official statement concerning the cancellation of the award winning and critically acclaimed show. However, unexpectedly, they placed the blame squarely on the popularity of the show. In a release found today on www.scifi.com, the cable channel stated that, "It was one of SCI FI's first original series and quickly became a critical and fan favorite. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to reach a broader audience, Farscape has been unable to grow beyond its core fan base. That, coupled with the extreme and growing cost of production, has led to the difficult decision to end the series at the conclusion of season four."
This is in direct contrast to a statement made by that very cable channel in June 2002. In their very own Sci Fi Magazine Thomas Vitale, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions, Scheduling, and Program Planning, wrote that "SCI FI has been able to continue ordering seasons of Farscape because the show performs strongly in the ratings. This is very satisfying to us at the network, as well as to Farscape's producers, since it clearly shows that the series has struck a chord with viewers. Happily, because enough viewers keep watching this terrific series, we can afford to keep making it."
It seems odd that the Sci Fi channel would complain about the size of the fan base of a show that is their most popular original series. Until this season, Farscape held a key primetime spot, the eight o'clock hour. As Juliet Blake, President of Jim Henson TV has said, moving the time to the ten o'clock hour cost Farscape some of its younger viewers. Farscape had been the number one show on the cable channel until the recent addition of Stargate: SG-1 and even then only fell to a close number two. Additionally, inside sources at Sci-Fi are reporting that the holdover audience from SG-1 has actually increased the base audience of Farscape, not decreased it, a fact that would make erroneous the information in Sci-Fi Channel's recent press release. Fans now question if the popularity of SG-1 came from placing it in the time slot formerly held by Farscape.
This new information appears to support fans' claims that Sci Fi did not give their "best effort" to broaden the fan base. With no reruns of the show airing to allow new viewers to get caught up, and no promotion of this critically acclaimed show, fans are left to wonder what exactly the channel did do to promote it. One can only speculate Sci Fi assumed that, due to its critical acclaim and number of prestigious awards, Farscape would promote itself and find its own audience without their help. Instead, fans took it upon themselves to promote the show. Farscape Fan sites proliferate across the Internet, numbering in the hundreds. The virtually unadvertised DVD, video game, books, t-shirts, soundtrack and trading cards continue to fly off the shelves, all with little or no promotional impetus from the Sci Fi Channel.
Critics are baffled and saddened by the cancellation as well. Matt Roush of TV Guide likened it to the short-sighted cancellation of Star Trek by NBC in 1969. (Which was saved from cancellation in 1968 by a massive write in campaign to the network.) He has also said "For Sci Fi to cite economic reasons for denying fans a final year of Farscape would seem to be at odds with the network's mission as an entertainment brand." Robert Bianco of USA Today states his disappointment with the decision as well. "for a network to back off from a commitment and dump the best original series it has ever had - well, that isn't the kind of thing that inspires a lot of confidence in either the Hollywood or the critical communities."
Apparently, the fans concur with that assessment. A massive campaign is underway to reverse the decision with telegrams, faxes, phone calls and emails pounding the Sci Fi Channel and it's sister company, USA Networks. However fans aren't willing to stop there, they are also taking the campaign to other networks. TNT, UPN and Showtime have been targeted as possible homes for Farscape.

"Hey Guys.
Thought I'd check in.
Ben called this morning to say someone was in here blabbing
about this and that. Wasn't me. I was at the chiropractor, trying to

Anyway. Point is--
Two points, actually
and you may be highly interested in both.
1) When someone purports to be
me or Ben, there is a way to check.
Barb and I have a secret password.
She PMs the guy nicked as "DK"
If he has the password
OH ya put me in the hot seat...that's ok

He's me.
If he doesn't
She'll let you know.
Anyone in the whole wide world can log

Don't believe it.
This IS me. I can tell you a few things.
Ben and Claudia and Lil and Andrew and Deb and Baba and I ended the
wrap party in my office and talked and cried the night away.
I got home very late/early
and my phone was ringing.
The pressure you incredible people are applying
through civil and concerned means
is
unbelievably as you may find it
actually having an effect.
There are no promises.
There is no anything.
But people who were once not talking
are now talking again.
My phone rings.
There is calm and there is conversation.
While people are decent and sensible
and interacting in a positive and productive
way, things ALWAYS have a chance to get done.
I am the most optimistic person you've
ever heard about. It's what I do.
I am hopeful.
I am seriously hopeful.
It is because of you.
But it is nowhere near being done.
That said,
I am hopeful.
Now....
What to do?
have you seen the operation big push email?
First -- do not listen to DK this and DK that.
I put together for this campaign?
If Barb hasn't given him protective status
he ain't me.
Once again,
this IS me.
I am hopeful.
Frankly, I'm so thrilled
by all of your support.
It's all the cast and crew
talked about
on a difficult last day.
I read Matt Roush's
fabulous on-line obit for us
everyone on wrap.
We all cried.
200 plus people. I swear to you. We ALL cried.
Together.
You fans are great.
Keep it up.
Keep letting the world know you want to see
more Farscape.
It's like pre-booking
your seat at a movie.
If they know you will watch
they will make the product for you.
"Hope" is a word
you will find in all of my scripts.
I give it to Crichton whenever I can.
I always have hope.
Yesterday I had less hope.

Thanks for the update.
Maybe at least, a few months down the road, we'll see some kind of story wrap up mini-series or tv movie.
Remember Sliders and Babylon 5 have been resurrected and extended, so there is "hope".
Yea, thanks for the update.
Great, at least people are talking now, everyone just one email isn't enough, keep emailing and even phone if you can. It matters.

I am totally gutted by this. Dark Angel was bad enough but this is worse. I would urge anyone out there to sign a few petitions and keep the pressure on.

THURSDAY PROTEST ONLINE AND EVENTS THROUGH THE COMING WEEK
"As part of a concentrated effort to show solidarity with our brother and sister scapers on the picket line tomorrow outside sci-fi headquarters, I've been trying to drum up participation in an email barrage to Tom Vitale (Senior Vice President of Acquisitions, Scheduling, and Program Planning) pressing the send button at 12:00 noon eastern time. I have been requesting that as many scapers as humanly possible email tvontv@scifi.com with the subject PLEASE SAVE FARSCAPE and have requested that they send a short polite note requesting Farscape be renewed for a 5th season.
If this works it will send a message to Scifi that we are unified and we're not going away.
Other ideas for unified concentrated efforts include a fax/phone barrage on Friday,
Sending birthday cards to Bonnie Hammer, Senior Vice President of Programming (Who cares when her birthday is?)
Sending flowers to the receptionists at the NY offices on Tuesday - (why not, we made their lives a living hell)
Any help in getting the word out would be greatly appreciated"
anyone wanting the latest "save farscape" news,

we can make a difference!

anyone got any figures for how it does over here??
theres a link on the above site (in Captain Scarlets post) that fans outside the US can email Showtime who appear to have shown an interest in picking it up, if we could show them that there is revenue outside the US for Farscape it may add to the pressure for them to pick it up

NOTE: The BBC chose to broadcast "Scratch 'n Sniff" uncut rather than cut it up for a 6:45pm showing. However, they moved the episode to a special time of 11:20pm on a Saturday but did not advertise the move at all (not even an announcement at the end of "Meltdown"), so many fans missed the showing. Season Analysis: Once again some of the best episodes of the season score low. "Crackers Don't Matter" and "The Way We Weren't" are the only episodes to gain less than 2 million viewers, so one can only assume people were put off by "Taking the Stone". The breaks in the schedule (which are an unfortunate evil) clearly have an adverse effect on the ratings, when in the break between "Vitas Mortis" and "Stone" the show gaining viewers, but the later break between "Dream a Little Dream" and "Out of Their Minds" causing a small drop. The ratings were pretty steady, spiking for "The Maltese Crichton", which gained 0.64 million viewers over "I Do, I Think". After the break from "Beware of Dog", the ratings slid a little for "Won't Get Fooled Again" (another of the season's high points). The ratings were fairly steady until they gained for "A Not So Simple Plan", and the trilogy that it belonged to not only gained each episode but made up the 2nd, 3rd and 4th highest rated episodes of the season. Sadly, due to the fact the finale would've fallen on Christmas Day, it was forced on to a Tuesday (to avoid delaying till after the holidays), but due to other commitments (Thunderbirds), it was also moved to a later timeslot. Sadly, this being a fairly late decision, the viewership dropped 0.64 million for arguably one of the best ever episodes. I would think had it been in it's regular day/time, it would've bordered on 3 million. Shame.

Premiere 4.02 29th Nov 99
Season Analysis: The first season of the show got off to a phenomenal start, when amidst a blitz of advertising "Premiere" scored it's only rating of over 4 million viewers for a single showing to date. The ratings steadily slipped, a small part of which can be attributed to the Christmas Holidays (at which time general viewership is low). Returning in January accompanied by a Friday night repeat, the show bounced back a steady 3 to 3.5 million viewers, with a spike for the fantastic "DNA Mad Scientist", which garnered the shows highest composite to date - 4.13 million viewers (it's not hard to see why). It also had the only repeat to gain over a million viewers when it moved to Saturday afternoon. The ratings levelled out for a couple of episodes then dropped suddenly at "The Flax", then "Rhapsody in Blue" and the season's worst "Jeremiah Crichton". Certainly the show bounced back again for "Durka Returns" by gaining 0.40 million viewers, along with the new Sunday evening repeat. A spike again came for the excellent "A Human Reaction", then the ratings slipped over half a million for "Through the Looking Glass". No doubt helped by a new time, and hiatus, "Nerve" provided the season's lowest composite (a shame for one of the season's very best). The conclusion "The Hidden Memory" (another great episode) provided the season's only rating under 2 million viewers (first showing), but the composite helped it bounce back up, with "Bone to be Wild" again providing an improvement. The repeats ended after that episode though, and all on it's own another season great, again helped by a hiatus, gained just over 2 million, which is by far the lowest rating of season 1 (although there was no repeat for the episode).

Fans Rally in Support of Hit Original Show.
New York City, NY- September 12, 2002 _ Fans of the critically acclaimed, award winning hit Sci-Fi original series "Farscape" plan to take their campaign to save the show to the offices of the Sci-Fi channel in Rockefeller Center on Thursday morning, in a rally scheduled to begin at 8am. The rally, timed to coincide with the arrival of parent company Vivendi Universal CEO Jean-Rene Fourtou , is hoped to draw additional attention to the campaign to save the popular series. This show of support is in addition to their other activities, which include an e-mail rally of fans beginning at 12:00pm EST Thursday supporting their compatriots in New York and a move to send flowers to receptionists at Sci-Fi. As one Farscape fan put it, "Why not? We've made their lives a living hell." Through their letter and email barrage of Sci-Fi executives, advertisers, and rivals, fans are hoping to either reverse Sci-Fi's initial decision or encourage another network to pick up this valuable asset.
Insiders have reported that in an attempt to provide possible damage control for any press the rally may garner the network will have a Public Relations representative on hand.
The efforts of the determined Farscape fans have been energized by numerous media accounts of their efforts, most recently by two segments Wednesday night on CNN Headline News Hotwired detailing their crusade.

Anyone know what is currently happening with this?

We're all holding our breath, emailing like mad and keeping the faith.
If you want to read about the rally in NY yesterday there are some notes HERE (http://farscape.wdsection.com/rallyrpt.html) by people who were on the pickets.
The message is just keep going. It doesn't take much time to send an email per day to let SciFi know we won't let them drop Farscape.

Why spam them, they'll just think it's the same bunch of people and will result in a negative effect. And how are you not gona let them drop it, they already did and maybe they'll up the budget for Stargate, or develop another show.
What do you suggest the fans do? Sit back and count on the stations goodwill? How would that let them know how we feel?
Talk sense Lenny.
Emailing accomplishes many things, it puts the fans side of the argument to keep the show, it lets SciFi know just how much the show is wanted and enjoyed, and it makes life just a little bit tougher for SciFi for dumping their number 2 show in the ratings, number 1 until Stargate.
I don't want to pick an argument, but it's not a case of giving Stargate Farscape's money. What will happen is the money will get distributed to cheaper, less well made shows, that SciFi will put on instead of Farscape.
Or it will go to new shows, half of which won't even make is past the first few episodes because they'll be rubbish.

A letter from Andrew Prowse
Anthony Simcoe rushed into my office this morning waving The Daily Telegraph, "Look at this, look at this!". I looked and saw your ad, maybe a third of a page: "To the Farscape Cast and Crew". I copied it, handed it round to the post-production crew. Some smiled in appreciation, others shook their heads in disbelief, a couple looked a little red around the eyes: all were touched.
We know Farscape is a special show; at its best a great show, and hope the hell other people think the same. We know we have fans out there who love what we do. But I don't think any of us could have imagined the passion; the strength and depth of support we've received over the last ten days. It makes us proud, and it makes us humble.
We haven't given up yet, and neither should you.
We believe in you too.

Thank you for your tremendous efforts in support of Farscape. We have received the many phone messages, e-mails, faxes, letters and flowers that you have been sending. And they are appreciated. Yeah ok, I wouldn't say no to another season of Farscape anyway, even if it is achieved by someone putting a gun to the exec's head and making him sign a budget release and other waivers, so go ahead people, means justify the ends!
 I will not get into an argument, I will not get into an argument, I will not get into an argument. Ninth level zen has been achieved.
Yes that is good news that Scifi are dedicating resources to the fans appeal. But the old cynic in me wonders if they're just doing this to free their systems up and if anybody important will actually read the emails now.
Whatever the truth is I believe and I ain't quitting this fight yet.

Hi,
Anyone come accross this campaine yet?
"The Monday To-Do List - '"I AM FARSCAPE"
What is "I Am Farscape"? Well, just that. It's a campaign to make the
audience demographics tangible to the folks at SCI FI using their own
"I am
SCI FI" campaign.
We know this is very short notice, but if you watch Farscape (or even
if
you don't!) we're asking for your help.
We've made posters available at:
http://divinecollective.bitchenvy.com/IAmFarscape.html (and many thanks
to
Maayan and Arne for the fabulous design). What we'd like you to do is
pick
a character and print one out. Fill in your demographic information
with a
big black marker (check the list of advertisers at the end of this
announcement and mention as many as you can.) Tape or glue a photo of
yourself in the top right-hand corner and mail it to:
Bonnie Hammer, President
The Sci-Fi Channel
1230 Avenue of the Americas
New York, NY 10020
If you can afford overnight mail, so much the better, but send it
regular
even if you can't. That also goes for folks outside the US. Farscape
has an
international audience; you can really help us demonstrate that. Let's
see
if we can deluge them with our faces, make ourselves real, not some
faceless 'audience'.
Last, feel free to forward this request anywhere you like. And many
thanks
for letting Save Farscape go OT on your forum. Your one letter might be
just what we need to turn the tide.
Fialka

We now return you to your scheduled discussion. "

they were being destroyed werent they tho?? i know that they were actually dismantled but i thought original plans were for distruction
Nope sets have been dismantled and put in storage.
I would imagine they would be classed as an asset, because even if the worst happened, the sets in part or whole could always be sold off to fans or SciFi cafes and restaurants etc.
Keeping the faith.
A story about how the producers of Farscape could have known for weeks about Sci-Fi's decision.
http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/371/371308p1.html
Interesting reading, although it has a very negative slant on the campaign etc.
To me some of it reads like the same old SciFi propaganda.
Farscape was cancelled because the ratings were down.
Well yea! They went down because SciFi kept moving the show to awful timeslots, and switched it's advertising momentum to SG1. It would take a miracle for any show to maintain high ratings after being yanked from the primetime slot.
There are also rumours that SciFi tampered with the show in this way to engineer a fall in ratings and therefore get themselves a good bargaining position, or if negotiations fell through, an excuse to drop the show.
Keeping the faith.

Well Nana, that article is exactly what I've been saying about crazy email spamming, etc, I'm not saying you went to such degree as some other "crazed scapers", but it just illustrates my point.
"Farscape isn't going to be saved after all. And I DO feel like I was used like a tool or pawn. I wasted weeks and money sending faxes, e-mails, telegrams, passing out flyers, and I have nothing to show for it. I foolishly believed I could help save the show, and that the viewers actually mattered no matter how corporate the adversary. It's a harsh dose of reality.
"I feel like a tool because the egomaniacal 'Barbarella' over at #farscape on Sci-Fi's chat server withheld the information from us for two days that our efforts made no difference. We had to find out from Ben Browder when he was interviewed on CNN earlier."
Despite the definite news of the show's fate, the die hard fans refuse to let it die.
"Everybody is screaming their war chants even louder now," wrote the fan. "The unbearably lame 'SCAPERS NEVER SAY DIE!!!' stolen directly from The Goonies. It's entirely too lame for me to participate in anymore. I'm just hoping that the show makes it into syndication even though it's 12 episodes short of the magic 100 you need. I also hope seasons 2, 3 and 4 make it into full season box set form like season 1 does at the end of October."
The e-mailer even worried about some of the tactics used by their fellow fans.
"If for some reason you do decide to quote this, please leave my address out of it... I don't need crazed scapers firebombing my house or kidnapping my pets." Others, from publicists to network executives to advertising agents for sponsors who advertise on Sci-Fi have received death threats from overzealous Farscape fans. Those have been turned over to authorities who have mentioned several complaints filed for e-mail threats. A police officer told IGN Filmforce that these types of threats aren't taken lightly, despite the fact they come via email and are a felony in most states.
Anyway, it's over, but we got our DVDs. Still season 4 to collect in the next year, I hope it's released. This is what we really should be worrying about, Contender keeping their releases, but maybe not, maybe more fans will buy them now and secure any future releases.

The chat with David Kemper, Richard Manning, and Ben Browder originally scheduled for 8PM ET, 7PM CT, and 5PM PT has been rescheduled due to server difficulties. It will be held tomorrow, Thursday Sept. 19 at the same time in #farscape on the irc.scifi.com server (port 6667). Thank you
OO
Thanks Captain Scarlet looking forward to reading the transcripts and getting genuine info from the horse's mouths.
Lenny Nero, please stop trying to initiate arguments concerning sending emails, and if you think you're going to get season 5 on DVD you're going to be very disappointed. Season 5 is what we're all fighting for.

[20:58] FrooniumRicky: There's supposed to be some sort of chat
[20:58] Barbarella: are you gonna share the coffee?
[20:58] Barbarella: for the poor op
[20:59] FrooniumRicky: kudos to poor Babs

[20:59] Barbarella: cecretly I'm working for another un-named faction you just don't know it...
[20:59] Barbarella: oops secretly
[21:00] FrooniumRicky: We had something to say, but darned if we can remember what it was
[21:01] Barbarella: that happens with age man
[21:02] Barbarella: we are still here right?

[21:03] Barbarella: ROFL
[21:03] Barbarella: ok that's it for this room I'm capping it
[21:04] FrooniumRicky: DK is warming up his fingers
[21:05] FrooniumRicky: And don't ask how
[21:05] Barbarella: must be some exercise routine then
[21:06] FrooniumRicky: 99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of bee-ah...
[21:07] FrooniumRicky: If one of those highly acclaimed sci-fi series should happen to fall, 98 bottles of beer on the wall...
[21:08] FrooniumRicky: So, a Scarran walks into a bar...
[21:08] FrooniumRicky: "Why the long face?"
[21:08] DK: Okay, Gang, why don't I start.
[21:09] Barbarella: yes
[21:09] Barbarella: we're good to go
[21:09] DK: I figure someone just might post this anyway, so everyone
[21:09] Barbarella: we have all the relays setup around the server now
[21:09] DK: might have a chance to see what we're saying.
[21:09] FrooniumRicky: I'd say that's likely.
[21:09] DK: Good morning, afternoon, evening, wherever you may be.
[21:09] DK: I can't say if it was a quid pro quo
[21:10] DK: but when all of you
[21:10] DK: and many other dedicated fans
[21:10] DK: started voicing your displeasure at Farscape's cancellation
[21:10] DK: we suddenly found ourselves in a re-opened negotiation with
[21:10] DK: the SF Channel regarding more episodes.
[21:10] DK: So much for the good news.
[21:11] DK: Can't make a show without the dollars and the commitment of the channel that airs you.
[21:11] DK: Nothing changed really.
[21:11] DK: At the moment, there is no new eps of Farscape on the horizon.
[21:12] DK: But, a few thoughts...
[21:12] DK: First
[21:12] DK: What you have done/are doing is not wasted.
[21:12] DK: It is good.
[21:12] DK: Things change.
[21:12] DK: Things move.
[21:12] DK: Just not when you want them to sometimes.
[21:12] DK: Here's what I mean...
[21:13] DK: Our best 11 eps of Farscape
[21:13] DK: are coming up in January.
[21:13] DK: Ben called me 2 nights ago after midnight. He and his family
[21:13] DK: had just finished watching the finished version of
[21:13] DK: 413.
[21:13] DK: He couldn't believe that anyone would cancel this show.
[21:13] DK: I agree.
[21:14] DK: Wait till you see what we've got coming for you.
[21:14] DK: Okay. Stay here -- it'll all tie together in the end
[21:14] DK: Like Farscape.
[21:14] DK: Yep. Sets are down.
[21:14] DK: Nope
[21:14] DK: not the end of the world.
[21:15] DK: Ricky and I even took a few pieces
[21:15] DK: that we'll auction off for charity soon.
[21:15] DK: You may yet get to have a piece of the old girl.
[21:15] DK: I saw SF Channel's FAQ post.
[21:15] DK: Somebody (over a dozen
[21:15] DK: people) passed it on to me.
[21:16] DK: Okay.
[21:16] DK: I'd like to add a tiny bit of perspective
[21:16] DK: to the situation.
[21:16] DK: Just my informed opinion, you understand.
[21:16] DK: Couldn't be the truth.
[21:16] DK: No way. Uh uh.
[21:16] DK: Just an opinion, you understand...
[21:17] DK: Our ratings dropped for a variety of reasons.
[21:17] DK: One is certainly the time slot move.
[21:17] DK: We have direct competition in Odyssey 5 on Showtime.
[21:17] DK: We've lost some people there. A few.
[21:17] DK: NOTE: Every single person on O5 is a friend of mine.
[21:17] DK: They are great.
[21:17] DK: I watch their show.
[21:18] DK: I like their show.
[21:18] DK: It's a good show to watch.
[21:18] DK: Tell them I say hello.
[21:18] DK: Every single 1/10 th point that we drop. Let's talk about it.
[21:18] DK: We dropped, what, on average? 2/10ths.
[21:19] DK: Each 1/10 represents 3 people in America with a Neilson box.
[21:19] DK: Three.
[21:19] DK: Tres.
[21:19] DK: So six people somewhere stopped watching or went somewhere else or went into
[21:19] DK: prolonged labor (labour for our friends in Oz and UK)
[21:19] DK: and we're no longer a viable show.
[21:20] DK: I completely understand.
[21:20] DK: We're also hurt by the community you've established
[21:20] DK: amoung yourselves.
[21:20] DK: You watch our show in groups.
[21:20] DK: Clusters.
[21:20] DK: Gaggles.
[21:20] DK: Pods.
[21:20] DK: The way it's meant to be shared.
[21:20] DK: If you're alone -- you get online
[21:20] DK: while it's on and share the experience.
[21:21] DK: They don't count gaggles.
[21:21] DK: Only singles.
[21:21] DK: We should've made the damn show for 14 year old boys.
[21:21] DK: Jeez, did we screw up.
[21:21] DK: Okay...
[21:21] DK: let's see...
[21:21] FrooniumRicky: Hang on
[21:21] FrooniumRicky: He's looking at his notes
[21:21] FrooniumRicky: He's whistling in my ear
[21:22] FrooniumRicky: (on the phone, people, on the Phone)
[21:22] FrooniumRicky: Techno in action
[21:22] DK: We've lost some of Stargate's lead-in.
[21:22] DK: We have.
[21:22] DK: But "why."
[21:22] DK: Perhaps the audiences are not a perfect ourlap
[21:22] DK: overlap.
[21:23] DK: Where's Annabel when I need her to corrict my horendus spelng?
[21:23] DK: Anyway.
[21:23] DK: The audience's are not exactly the same.
[21:23] DK: Were they to be on the same network at the same time,
[21:23] DK: The Practice would not be scheduled behind Saved By the Bell.
[21:24] DK: However, SFC is a small channel.
[21:24] DK: There ISN"T anything else to pair with us at the time.
[21:24] DK: We've been waiting, but there was never a compatible show
[21:24] DK: build to work with us.
[21:24] DK: Fine. We all take what we get.
[21:24] DK: But I personally
[21:24] DK: PERSONAL OPINION, ONLY FOLKS --
[21:25] DK: don't buy that as a reason to cite when trying to
[21:25] DK: explain a cancellation.
[21:25] DK: (...somewhere, Ben is smiling...)
[21:25] DK: I won't even talk about the marketing.
[21:26] DK: I wish to remain a free man.
[21:26] DK: Lastly, re the FAQs -- despite all claims that we were all still negotiating\
[21:26] DK: at the time when the sets were first going under the hammer
[21:26] DK: --before the reprieve --
[21:27] DK: We had received a cancellation letter.
[21:27] DK: Thank you, but no more, thank you.
[21:27] DK: What to do?
[21:27] DK: Well -- sets can be rebuilt.
[21:27] DK: We've photographed them
[21:27] DK: and have all the blueprints.
[21:27] DK: No biggie.
[21:28] DK: Rock and I are working on "a script."
[21:28] DK: We all have 22 episodes of what might have been the final season
[21:28] DK: of Farscape
[21:28] DK: -- it COULD have gone longer if you gaggles had just
[21:28] DK: each sat alone in your own rooms
[21:28] DK: and watched the show without
[21:28] DK: going into labor/labour.
[21:29] DK: Anyway. They're the best damn eps
[21:29] DK: you will hopefully someday get to see.
[21:29] DK: Why?
[21:29] DK: Why are they so good?
[21:29] DK: I'll tell you why...
[21:29] DK: Several reporters and commentators
[21:29] DK: have hit on this.
[21:29] DK: We know it.
[21:29] DK: YOU know it in your soul.
[21:29] DK: I think there are some --
[21:30] DK: good gracious, this is the first time I've ever typed
[21:30] DK: these letters
[21:30] DK: since I used to BE one of 'em --
[21:30] DK: TPTB's that don't get it.
[21:30] DK: Even now.
[21:30] DK: The unwritten 22 eps of Scape are the best
[21:30] DK: because they are
[21:30] DK: THE END OF THE DAMN STORY.
[21:30] DK: It's why we've all worked and watched so hard.
[21:30] DK: To see the end.
[21:31] DK: Someone in the LA times wrote --
[21:31] DK: and it was forwarded to me
[21:31] DK: by a sympathetic syndicated columnist --
[21:31] DK: that you wouldn't got to a movie if they didn't show you the end.
[21:31] DK: You wouldn't buy the next novel if the last 100 pages were torn out.
[21:32] DK: But, I swear to you...
[21:32] DK: Certain TPTB's think this is just a show with a bunch of
[21:32] DK: eps strung together in a row.
[21:32] DK: It's a single story.
[21:32] DK: A love story.
[21:32] DK: Multiple love stories woven together into a careful tapestry.
[21:33] DK: You DO NOT understand how hard we've all worked to make that
[21:33] DK: satisfying for you -- despite a few glitches.
[21:33] DK: However -- we're even proud of the glitches.
[21:33] DK: I immodestly think -- along with the rest of the cast and crew --
[21:33] DK: that our cretins are better than most others' swans.
[21:33] DK: ;-)
[21:33] DK: Hey!
[21:34] DK: You guys got some cash?
[21:34] DK: I love the ads.
[21:34] DK: We love the ads.
[21:34] DK: You are so wonderful and nice.
[21:34] DK: Save the money. Let it earn
[21:34] DK: interest in the bank.
[21:34] DK: We come on in Jan.
[21:34] DK: Last 11 eps.
[21:34] DK: Wait till you see. Wait till everyone sees.
[21:34] DK: Take ads then.
[21:34] DK: Remind the world.
[21:35] DK: It'll be hard to miss us unless they run us at 3:37 am out of a broadcast station in Rhodesia.
[21:35] DK: Spread the word.
[21:35] DK: No labor/labour then.
[21:35] DK: Watch alone.
[21:35] DK: Be 14.
[21:35] DK: But, as Ben says --
[21:35] DK: "Get us a 2.0 rating."
[21:36] DK: Then smile.
[21:36] DK: I promise you,
[21:36] DK: the people who make Farscape are ready to make more.
[21:36] DK: Maybe we'll get the chance.
[21:36] DK: Maybe YOU will give us that chance.
[21:36] DK: On a personal note
[21:36] DK: I will probably not be checking in unless one of the inner circle
[21:37] DK: asks me again to say some words.
[21:37] DK: We have another series to create.
[21:37] DK: The team plans to stay together.
[21:37] DK: There will be more/others/different.
[21:37] DK: They won't be Scape, but we can't have everything at the time and place we want it.
[21:38] DK: I mean, they never do the Sports Illustrated swimsuit shoot in MY neighborhood.
[21:38] DK: But,
[21:38] DK: there is always the chance.
[21:38] DK: This is not smoke.
[21:38] DK: I'm too tired and old to blow smoke.
[21:38] DK: Ratings rise. Noise is made. February rolls around...
[21:39] DK: I'm actually -- really -- smiling.
[21:39] DK: I'd love to see it happen.
[21:39] DK: It would also mean it happened because of you.
[21:39] DK: Come to think of it --
[21:39] DK: This whole damn thing has happened because of you.
[21:39] DK: You get it.
[21:39] DK: You know it's one story.
[21:39] DK: A love story.
[21:39] DK: An epic, frelling love story.
[21:40] DK: Personally, I am really sad.
[21:40] DK: It wouldn't've been that hard to let the story finish.
[21:40] DK: Anyway...
[21:40] DK: Thank you all.
[21:40] DK: I will expect our paths will cross on the airwaves in the future.
[21:40] DK: In the meantime--
[21:40] DK: Keep watching Farscape.
[21:40] DK: In record numbers.
[21:41] DK: Stay with the story.
[21:41] DK: Ben and Ricky and all the others and myself
[21:41] DK: are not dead yet.
[21:41] DK: We're just unemployed.
[21:41] DK: Thank you all for the last 4 plus years.
[21:41] DK: It is now time for us to step back.
[21:41] DK: Stay a community.
[21:41] DK: Maintain your Farscape friends.
[21:42] DK: We're in the process of doing that ourselves.
[21:42] DK: It is a comfort and a blessing.
[21:42] DK: Look at all the cool things Mr. O'Bannon's little brainstorm did for all of us.
[21:42] DK: Good night from Sydney.
[21:42] DK: DK out.
[21:43] Barbarella: Well DK I have one thing to say as I'm sure all scapers are saying thru all these PM's to Pygar
[21:43] Barbarella: We plan to keep it alive and we plan to show the world thru our local efforts and Online efforts that we intend to get people involved with this that Farscape is here to stay and we WILL get that 5th season
[21:44] Barbarella: And this community can do it
[21:44] Barbarella: Froon any words of wisdom from the master of mamboshirts?
[21:44] FrooniumRicky: DK is a hard act to follow
[21:44] FrooniumRicky: I want to thank everyone as well
[21:45] FrooniumRicky: I have made wonderful friends on this show...
[21:45] FrooniumRicky: Before the cameras, behind the cameras...
[21:45] FrooniumRicky: And Out There in the Real World as well...
[21:46] FrooniumRicky: Every tv crew is a "family"...
[21:46] FrooniumRicky: Some are less dysfunctional than others ;)
[21:47] FrooniumRicky: Farscape's family is the best.
[21:47] FrooniumRicky: And that family includes all of you.
[21:48] FrooniumRicky: Rock, DK, Ben...
[21:48] FrooniumRicky: ...everyone hearing the "sound" of my "voice"...
[21:49] FrooniumRicky: Thank you for four of the best and most FUN years of my life.
[21:50] FrooniumRicky: (Thanks to Barbarella for wrestling the server to the ground so we could speak to you.)
[21:50] FrooniumRicky: See you in January.
[21:50] Barbarella: anytime sugar
[21:50] Barbarella: and we won't give up till we get that season 5
[21:51] Barbarella: I assue you we're just begining we have the global rally planned "A 5th of Farscape"
[21:51] Barbarella: that should get lots of attention we already have press involved
[21:51] Barbarella: lots of sites and more to come...we haven't even begun to fight
[21:51] Barbarella: because we love you guys and the "Love Story" that is the Greatest SCIFI on TV Today
[21:52] FrooniumRicky: Thanks again.
[21:52] Barbarella: you want me to unmode the room?
[21:52] FrooniumRicky: Keep watching.
[21:52] FrooniumRicky: We now return control of your chat room to you.
[21:52] FrooniumRicky: Drive safely.
[21:52] FrooniumRicky: "When the string is long, the pig is late."

Thanks Skipper!
Yes, with all this quarrel I'm sure more people will tune in now and maybe a year or two down the road, a concluding tv movie or miniseries, or even another season is possible.
Couldn't get there live, so a big thanks for posting Captain Scarlet.
Wow do I love the way DK writes, even on a mundane chat. Whenever I buy the Farscape mag. , his is always the first column I turn to.
Well there it is, the essence of what DK's saying is keep going whenever and however you can, and make a big push when the last episodes come out in the US in January.
I get it. I want to know how it ends.
Keeping the faith. :rocker:

can't be arsed searching thru the thread to see if this has been posted already, as I'm not a Farscape fan, but I found this Online Petition (http://www.ipetitions.com/campaigns/SAVE_FARSCAPE/) to save Farscape if you all want to sign it as well
:)

thanx nana! it was a long night & all hell nearly broke loose again when the sci-fi network server nearly broke again. i think it's held together with spit & brown paper. anyway the chat itself was nearly an hour later by the time they'd sorted it out.
you have a sense if you read the transcript of how upset DK is over all this, i could almost sense the tears last night.
anyway thanx for the suport you guys! i'm getting ready for jan myself now for the big push & as nana says "Keep the faith. :rocker: "

Greetings Scapers
One of the memebers of my press team came to me today with some info about ADV Films the Houston based anime distributor. Here's the latest info we have at this time. We even went so far as to contact ADV's PR department personally to find out the news and make sure of the facts. I must stress to you all that ADV is NOT in production of this right now however they ARE working on a deal. ADV is still looking for backers for this deal and should they find some it is reported they will go into production.

"This afternoon I received word that ADV, the Texas-based company that distributes FARSCAPE on DVD, was in "active production" on an animated FARSCAPE series. Shortly afterwards, I acquired a press release which ADV circulated by e-mail on Sept. 20th, which seemed to confirm the rumor. I spoke with someone in PR at ADV who, at first, denied the veracity of the report, but when I brought up the press release, relayed me to someone in advertising. At that point, I was informed that yes, ADV is in "active production" on a FARSCAPE anime. But (and this is a big but), what ADV means by this is that they have acquired the animation rights and are now actively seeking financiers for a proposed 26 episodes at 25 mintes each. It does not mean the show is actually being filmed, but only in the earliest stages of development (i.e., backers are being sought). ADV is enthusiastic and clearly wants the project to happen. They will be pitching it at MIPCOM 2002, the annual international licensing fair to be held in Cannes, France October 7th-11th. If you would like to voice your support of ADV's efforts, they can be e-mailed at ADV Press (press@advfilms.com). Now would be a good time, before MIPCOM."

relatively interesting bit in this months SFX (??) got Claudia on cover anyway, basically saying theres no chance of a reprieve:( will reread and possibly post later
If the Sopranos can take a year off (albeit willingly) and come back just as strong then there is hope for Farscape!! My glass is half full!
For those who want to hear how it was from the horses mouth a magazine called Impact (not one I know of) has an exclusive interview in the December issue.
Just got my Farscape Calender today (amazon.co.uk have them), it's beautiful and July has some wonderful pictures of the cartoon based ep. Revenging Angel.
Worth getting if you're a big fan.

Quote from www.watchfarscape.com
"The news has barely hit the press yet, but Farscape did it again: Farscape once again claimed the Best Syndicated/Cable TV Series trophy for the year 2002. Farscape also received this honor for the 2000 and 2001 seasons. Farscape is the first series to receive this award three times, breaking a tie for this award with The Outer Limits (which received two as a syndicated series and one as a broadcast network series).
Ben Browder, Claudia Black, and Gigi Edgely also received the honor of nominations, but did not win this time around. Ben Browder won a Saturn last year."
take that sci-fi

Bumping this again.
The Save Farscape campaign is still going strong and they're currently running a demographic survey. It's the same as the one that was done last November so if you filled that one out you don't need to do this one.
But if you missed the first one then head on over to...
http://www.watchfarscape.com/news/article.php?newsid=357
and take the link to add your voice to the campaign :)
Just filled it in

If your a fan of Ben Browder you will be able to see him again on Saturday night as he makes a guest appearance in the CSI: Miami episode Tinder Box
Thank you very much for that info pebbleinapond, I've been wondering what that Ben's been doing. I mean with that much talent he's not going to be unemployed for long, is he?
Survey all filled in... don't wanna lose such a great show
