Maybe the TV does not have good support for NTSC discs? What setting do you have your player set to ouput NTSC on? (e.g. NTSC,PAL 60, PAL 50)

Ive got a Pioneer DV 340 am sure it outputs PAL because it worked one my old TV fine and that could not recieve NTSC signal. How can you change the settings?

On a Pioneer it will output PAL 60, not all TV's can cope with PAL 60, some require a true PAL 50 signal. However seeing as you get a stable image (e.g. not rolling) then I guess the TV supports 60Hz images.

On the older models (e.g. my old 717) there was s switch on the back labled PAL/NTSC for switching the output method of NTSC images, it may still be there, or it could be in the setup menu.

I presume that you are using scart to transfer the picture/sound? Can the TV cope with either S-Video or RGB through the Scart? If so then this may produce a better image.

If this is a new TV, then if all else fails you could return for an exchange to a model which does work??

What model of TV is it?

Theres no switch on the back and i cant find anything in the setup menus (dont really know where to look). The TV can cope with S video but still get the same symptoms i get with RGB. On the specification thing on the manual it says colour PAL I. Its a Grundig t55 1010 had it for about six months. Thanks for your help it is very much appreciated.

Do you know of any DVD players that output PAL 50?

Some of the cheaper players output PAL 50 (e.g. Alba and some of the older Samsung's) but not sure what new(er) players do. I doubt that this is your problem though.

Is this the only DVD player you have?

Yes do you reckon if i buy a new DVD player the picture will be OK?

Try PAL DVD to see if it ok, then use them from R2 or R4 instead R1 ;-(

I woulw agree there, if PAL are fine and the DVD player is better on other TV's then its probably the TV.
