I've had a couple of "bargain" players and always found them to be sub standard in one respect or another. If your budget allows it, I thoroughly recommend bumping it up by £10 and getting a Pioneer DV350 from forum sponsors "Home Cinema Heaven".

This machine is excellent in every respect for the price. Multi region out of the box, will play pretty much everything you throw at it; DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, VCD, CD-R etc.

Remote response time is the fastest I've ever seen on a player. I cannot praise this machine enough. I'm very, very happy with it.

The service from HCH was pretty good too ;)
