This weeks hobby - collecting old people
You will need: a flask of weak lemon drink.
If you get two old people the same, you can swap them with your friends.
I am the hobby King

Excellent!
Then followed by TMWRNJ, which had the talkin orange and When .... Attacks with the guy from my 2 dads :D
That would be Greg Evigan, what was the name of the Welsh horse thing?.
Big fan of everything they've done, especially like TMWRNJ, especially Histor's eye.........
HISTOR Oh hello again children, it's me, Histor, Sky TVs magic one-eyed pirate history crow and welcome to Histor's eye... All hands on deck!
PLINY DISAPPEARS OUT OF SIGHT.
HISTOR What are you doing down there Pliny?
PLINY You told me to put my hands on the deck!
HISTOR All Hands On Deck is a nautucal term calling the sailors to action. And in any case, you don't have any hands. You are a bird!
PLINY RETURNS
PLINY It was still a good joke. Anyway, what's the news Histor?
HISTOR Well me hearty pirate crow, you may have seen on the grown-ups news, many people are calling for the drug cannabis...
PLINY Ha ha cann-a-beak!
HISTOR .. calling for cannabis to be made legal.
PLINY Ha! Made Eagle! But what is cannabis Histor, I've never heard of it?
HISTOR Never you mind what it is, Pliny. The important thing is that it is extraordinary evil,
PLINY Ha ha! Eggs
HISTOR extraodrinary poisonous..
PLINY Ha ha! Eggs!
HISTOR ... and makes anyone who so much as smells it go mad.
PLINY Go bad, like a bad egg!
HISTOR Stop your crowing...
PLINY Crow-wing!
HISTOR before I stop it for you!
PLINY Beak-fore! Like a crow's beak!
HISTOR Gah! To see how debilitating...
PLINY .. debilitatwing...
HISTOR .. cannabis is, come back with me now to 1967... as the crow flies.
FLYING MUSIC. HISTOR'S FLAP RISES. THEY FLY.
FADE INTO HISTOR AND PLINY SITTING ON A LOG AGAINST A SWIRLY BACKDROP. TWO VERY HAPPY MALE HIPPES. LEOTARD, LONG WIGS, SUNGLASSES, DRINKING BROWN LIQUID OUT OF STRANGE SHAPPED GLASSES.
SFX MUSIC AND CROWD NOISE...
PLINY Where are we Histor?
HISTOR This is the Woodstock festival...
PLINY Woodstock, like the bird in Snoopy!
PLINY .. where cannabis was invented.
MAN HIPPY 1 Mmmm! A nice man gave us this cannabis and it is delicious.
MAN HIPPY 2 Yes! far out man! It makes me feel sort of strange and happy!
MAN HIPPY 1 Yes! Look at those crows. They look like they're talking.... about us!
MAN HIPPY 2 Yeah! Bummer!
PLINY It seems like cannabis is a good thing Histor. It has made those ladies really happy!
HISTOR No. See what happens to our cannabis guzzling friends just two hours later.
A SKELETON IN A WIG AND HIPPY 2 RUNNING AROUND MAD.
HIPPY 2 Aaah! Help! I am mad! There are peas coming out of my face!
HISTOR See Pliny - just one sip of cannabis is an irreversible road to death and madness. But who sold these poor women the deadly drug?
CUT TO MAN CROUCHING BEHIND BUSH IN LEOTARD, OASIS T-SHIRT AND BLONDE WILLIAM STRAW WIG.
HISTOR That's right! Mark his face well! It is the most evil man who has ever lived, the eater of souls, William Straw!
WILLIAM STRAW HOLDS UP A BIG SCIENCE FLASK OF BROWN LIQUID
STRAW Ha ha! With my cannabis I will destroy all in the world that is good and noble. Ha ha ha! I am pure evil!
PLINY Surely William Straw is only 17 years old Histor. He wasn't alive in 1967.
HISTOR Evil is eternal Pliny. William Straw has been known by many names in many different times. To the Jews he was Satan...
WE SEE WILLIAM STRAW AS BEFORE BUT IN RED LIGHT AND HORNS. EACH VISION OF WILLIAM STRAW ACCOMPANIED BY A CRACK OF THINDER.
HISTOR The German People knew him as Adolph Hitler...
WE SEE WILLIAM STRAW AS BEFORE BUT WITH HITLER MOUSTACHE
HISTOR To the Aztecs he was Quetzalcoatal, the winged serpent.
WE SEE WILLIAM STRAW AS BEFORE BUT WITH A LONG PINK TONGE AND LIZARDY FACE, WINGS SHOWING BEHIND HIS BACK, IN GREEN LIGHT.
HISTOR And to the Spanish he was known as Nicholas Harris.
WE SEE WILLIAM STRAW AS BEFORE BUT WITH BROWN HAIR AND GLASSES.
THEY ARE BACK IN THE CROW'S NEST
HISTOR And William Straw still walks the earth today! So I hope you see now Pliny that cannabis is evil and must remain illegal.
PLINY But what about people who use cannabis for pain relief in multiple sclerosis and arthrits?
HISTOR Don't be tainted by William Straw's propaganda Pliny. The truth is cannabis causes multiple sclerosis and arthrits and all other diseases. You're much safer with a cigarette and nice drink of rum. Yo ho ho!
PLINY Yolk Ho Ho! Ha ha! He said yolk - like an egg!
FREEZE FRAME OF PLINY AND HISTOR DRINKING AND SMOKING
MUSIC & CAPTION Histor's Eye is Presented in Association with the World Fags And Booze Organisation. (PLUS FAGS AND BEER LOGO)

Lee and Herring are very talented IMO and their shows a joy to watch, although the genuine comedy genius has to be Kevin Eldon
Simon Quinlank and Rod Hull are 2 of the best comedy "creations" ever.
The man is hil-hairy-arse......and is the major contributor to making Big Train as funny as it is...

I spent ages dubbing all the Rob Hull sequences onto a tape for posterity. Only in my wildest dreams did I dare to believe that the real Rod Hull might endorse this homage....
I also bought the Fist of Fun annual.

will this true gem ever make it to dvd or even a repeat showing???
No. Despite lots of petitions by fans the BBC have been very lame about it, I think a repeat showing on BBC Choice or UK Play would be a very very good idea.

Check out Richard Herring's website (http://www.richardherring.com/). He goes into loads of detail about both his career, and there's also transcripts and a diary (http://www.richardherring.com/warmingup/warmingup.php?id=226) that he updates virtually daily.
As part of operation move house with girlfriend I'm going to be shifting a lot of stuff on e-bay, one of the items is the Lee and Herring Live Video

If anyone is interested and wants to bid please do, I'll be sad to see it go :( but need to clear out for soon to be married life :) .
:nono: Not allowed to advertise your sales on the forums I'm afraid.
I'm sure if you were selling it in the classifieds you could give it a plug though. ;)
Well, I did not know that as I've seen it done several times before. Anyway, I've removed the link.
Looks like Fist of Fun is finally coming to DVD, with Season 1 possibly being ready for Christmas
Stewart Lee has confirmed plans for a Fist of Fun DVD.
Last year, Lee's former comedy partner Richard Herring suggested that the pair may collaborate on a release of their mid-'90s BBC Two show, which originally started life as a radio programme.
Lee, whose Comedy Vehicle returns tonight at 11.20pm on BBC Two, told Digital Spy: "Oh, he's done it, he's sorted it out... He's managed to buy the first series, or both series, of Fist of Fun off [the BBC] for 15 grand.
"So we've gone three ways on it, me, Rich and Chris Evans, who runs [independent DVD firm] Go Faster Stripe. Of course we can sell them after gigs and I don't think it should be too difficult to make the money back."
He continued: "I think it's quite important for Richard's self-esteem. He's done much better than me financially in his life - he co-wrote Al Murray's sitcom - but I don't think he's had the critical acclaim that I've had. Weirdly, I'd be much happier with the money and no critical acclaim!
"I think he feels he did something really good in Fist of Fun and it's never had the credit it deserved. I think it's really important for him to get it out there.
"I'm really happy for him that that's happening. I'm slightly ambivalent about it. I really liked the first series. I feel with the second series we were encouraged to make a number of artistically ill-advised compromises."
Asked about the planned release date of the series, Lee added: "We'll film a load of extras for it... I think it might be next year - we've got an idea about doing a one-off gig to launch it."
Writing on Twitter, Herring quipped: "Despite Lee's attempts to belittle me and aggrandise himself I am delighted that we'll be able to bring you Fist of Fun on DVD.
"We are going to make sure it has lots of great extras, but I think series 1 might be ready for Christmas. We'll see.
"We have had to do the DVD ourselves though - at some expense - as BBC don't think it was worth it. Let's prove them wrong."

Typical of you lot to want the moon on a stick.
Love the quotes from the two of them!
Really looking forward to this.. have watched them all loads before, but it really was a seminal show (in my opinion!)
Will be glad to dump the shoddy VHS rips I have and get the DVD, and the fact that it's the amazing www.gofasterstripe.com doing it is brilliant - I have most of their discs and they are always jammed to the gunnels with extras :)

Geniunely brilliant news.
The pair are obviously both still working the circuit and as funny as ever by themselves (very different delivery, obviously) but each fully deserves all the praise they get.
Excellently crafted and written stand-up...

I saw Richard Herring two nights ago for his "Christ on a Bike - the Second Coming" tour.
Excellent stuff, and FoF was one of my favourite 90s shows. You can see a lot of the FoF influence in his stand-up, especially this latest touring show.

This is awesome news I've been waiting for this for ages!
Now I just need a release of The Mary Whitehouse Experience.
I'd forgotten about FOF! I keep thinking about TMWRNJ which I used to get up early for to catch on Sunday mornings. Loved it. I seem to remember enjoying it a bit more than FOF, it was a bit more polished.
Can't believe they got the rights for only 15k! I wonder if that's domestic only or not. Even if they sold the DVDs for a fiver more than cost, they'd only have to shift 3,000 copies to recoup the costs.
It's a damn shame so many good shows came out pre-DVD, I imagine it's cheaper to make a DVD than it was to make a VHS.
rbullivant
09-05-2011, 08:16
I suppose its £15k in the BBC coffers for more episodes of Don't annoy the rabbit or whatever they call it. I strongly doubt the BBC could do anything with it or indeed produce a DVD for anywhere cheap enough to make it profitable to the point they'd get £15k back.
I imagine it'll be sold via Go Faster Stripe and from the artists themselves at gigs like a lot of their other stuff.
In SL's recent book talking about working with GFS, he said it was the most profitable DVD he ever made, think he got a fiver per one after costs.

I'm two episodes in (watching it with commentary after each episode). Although it was clearly a seminal work, I'm still surprised how well it's stood the test of time. £25 seemed like a lot, but I really think I'm going to get my money's worth. Even the inside of the DVD case is a good read.

Anyone got more feedback on this and if its worth the £25.
I'm tempted to get it just to throw my support behind them releasing TWMRNJ in the future!
I got it for xmas and personally I think it's well worth the money - I already had the episodes on VHS and VHS rip, but I've not watched them for years.
I've only watched the episodes through once without commentary and one of the documentaries so far, but I plan on seeing everything, and hopefully getting season 2 next year :)
Can't say enough good things about GoFasterStripe either - I tweeted them as I was getting stuttering on a couple of episodes through my PS3 (the only thing I can properly play DVD on). They explained that they've now found the episodes with dual commentary (i.e. 3 audio tracks) don't work on PS3 due to audio stream size, so are in the process of having them re-pressed. They've already posted out a burned replacement for the discs, and will be sending out a replacement pressed copy when they're back from the factory - phenomenal customer service from a small independent company that puts the big boys to shame!

Call the rbullivant man prophetic - I bought mine last week at Stew's (brilliant) Carpet Remnant World tour after the show and he signed it for me - so v pleased :D
Excellent set - can't recommend it highly enough for being made with such evident love by all involved.
Surprised people keep suggesting the price is excessive. This hasn't been put together by a massive studio or broadcaster and duplicated in the millions.
It's an independent production and Rich and Stew have bought the rights to the show out of their own pockets. I'm not saying they deserve charity, but they've clearly invested a lot of time and effort into produce something that can't be found elsewhere at any price.

Ah, fantastic news. I noticed that episode 2 was stuttering there other day when I was playing it on my PS3. I hadn't had a chance to speak to them about it yet.
